Does anyone remeber what their record tonnage for a single patrol was? Right now, my record is about 30,000. (I know, not very much, but I'm still learning.) So what's everybody elses?

It depends on mods. With stock you can sink many ships with the DG.
Even with TMO, get two 40's and used correctly that could add several more ships, add 6 more with the DG, you can be half way there without using a torp. Regardless, that's not realistic and never happened in war.

I've had patrols of over 200,000 tons, but many have playing TMO. I've never broke the 300K ton mark.

Once in a blue moon I'll try to reach 300K ton mark, just not yet, but that means shooting only at very large ships and tactics such as one torp per ship and using the DG or 40's to finish.

It's possible to sink two Yamoto class BB's and up to two carriers without refit, then use the DG to sink large pass. ships, tankers ect...it's not hard.

Mostly today I just attack well escorted TF or convoys, just boring trying to stack a score.

With the stock version, I've had tonnage totals in excess of 230,000. Now, with RFB/RSRDC, it's a more modest (and probably more realistic) 60k.

Yea, stock SH4 does go a bit crazy with the targets... I once found a Hiryu patroling a harbour, just going back and forth, without turning around to go back.

Does anyone know where I can get TMO? I hear everybody talking about it, and I want to try it. Also, how hard is it to install? I'm not that good with the computer stuff.

Here. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=132330) Release thread, has the download links. Download the manual, read it.

Installs real easy with JSGME (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=173324).

With TMO and RSRD, my best ever was 87k - more typically, less than 30k average.

With the stock game, I always shot for 100k for each patrol... it got old, and predictable. Way too many targets in stock.

On my current patrol, I am at a paltry 1,200 tons- a single patrol craft I found in stormy weather. Other than that- it is like I am all alone on the ocean and my fuel will seemingly be the determining factor in how soon I return to base- rather than my torpedoes.

Personaly with a certain mod that gives you the Los Angles, and the Mk 48 ADCAP, i have had over a 500k patrol. With a more realistic Fleet boat, my highest was about 65k or so. In SH3 with a ViiC, i got about 105k.

I think it would also depend on the realism setting.

Auto targeting with no duds and external camera would result in a higher tonnage

Manual targeting, duds and no external camera would result in a lower tonnage.

Had to stop at midway once to reload otherwise nine months sat outside bungo suido sinking mercants on the way in and out had 1 destroyer sunk as getting close to finding me so caught it between two sinking merchants and hit it with a torp on the rear

I sank over 100,000 tons in 10 minutes (http://www.filefront.com/13692848/100000-tons-in-10-minutes9.wmv) once.... Tonnage means exactly nothing. Even at its hardest settings SH4 is a cakewalk compared to reality and we can outperform the real skippers every time we go out. That movie was the end of the 100k ton club over at Ubi Forums. I posted the movie along with the tools and instructions so anyone could do it.

Numbers like those are really only from playing the game as an arcade type. If you play it as a historical simulation, you will hardly ever approach 100,000 tons. It would take a lot of large warships to reach that total. you would also have to let a lot of targets go unharmed to find them, something skippers did not do.

So I like to play as a skipper in the 40's, with all the frustrations endured by the submariners then. I want to play a historical WW2 simulation, not an arcade game.

Playing TMO+RSRD, early war unreliable torpedoes, in a Porpoise (16 fish), I'm happy with 10,000 tons.
20,000 tons would be a cause for much celebration.

I had ~13000 on my last patrol. Would have been ~23000 if I hadn't run into the world's luckiest tanker.

Nippon Maru Tanker Sighted
14 torpedoes fired
Duds

Only got one torpedo hit, forward, and ran out of DG shells trying to finish him off

My record is 0 :P. I have yet to encounter a ship in my patrol.
