I don't even own a cell phone i hate the things sons have them sitting there texting waiting for a reply then text back and repeat, quite sad really. :O:

But fastest time is by Melissa Thompson, from Salford, Greater Manchester, texted the following sentence in a mere 25.94 seconds:

"The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human."

If you can beat her time your be in the Guinness Book of World Records!!! :dead:

I can text at a normal speed, nowhere near as fast as I can type though. Although I do kinda cheat in the fact that I tend to misspell an odd word here or there and my iphone automatically corrects it.

I also text quite frequently, but I'm always doing something else(whether it be watching tv, playing on my phone, or other stuff). The one thing I do like about my phone is the fact that it does remind me 5 minutes later that I have received a text, if I'm too busy doing something else to check when I first get the text.

Although reading the article, I don't know if this really counts as breaking the world record, as the phone is doing most of the work for you. Kinda like using T9.:hmmm:

Edit: 1000th Post :D

I hate texting. Every time I text I get one part or another wrong, and end up calling the person to explain myself anyway. :dead:

Even sideways on my iPhone I have trouble. I'm more likely to "text" a picture or movie of the kids than actually type, lol. I've posted here from my phone, too ;) (this ain't one of those, I'm way faster really typing).

Despite having a Blackberry with a qwerty keyboard and unlimited text allowance I reckon I don't use double figures per month.

The only exception is if I get a text or an email off the boy whilst I'm out.

I text a few times a month, usually to my dad to check he is picking up my daughter or something like that.

Personally I find all these people who text and text and text really sad....

Maybe I am just getting old...

Perhaps I dislike it because I don't use text language—unless standard English counts.

Quicker to phone the person. ;)Really? Not in my case anyways. Whenever I text someone it's usually something like "you going out tonight?". Takes just a few secs. If I'd call that person, I'd first have to wait for him/her to answer the phone. Then some kind of greeting, and then finally the question. Much quicker just to text them.

Oh, I don't know about that...... I'm only 27 and I hate texting, especially when people spend more than about ten seconds doing it - "Just call the sonofabitch!" Jeez.

Then there's all the stupid text messages I get like "what's up?" and "hey". WTF is that!? What do you want? Do you want me to reply with a brief synopsis of the activity I am currently engaged in? Why? Maybe you want to hang out or something? Then freaking call me! And when you do call me, if you bitch about me not responding to your text, I'll kill you.

Speaking of people I want to kill and stupid messages, I have a special place in my heart for people who use text messaging like its twitter with a direct line to my phone. That place is filled with razorwire, mustard gas, and flesh-eating hellbeasts summoned from the most infernal of abyssal planes. OMFG, ur on a boat!? What am I supposed to do with that? What possible meaningful exchange of information concerning your experience on the boat could we share in a text message? Perhaps you could tell me where you are exactly so I could go there and kill you for squandering precious kilobytes of of storage space on my phone and annoying me besides.

Sufficed to say, I do not text frequently or quickly.

a couple years ago (whilst I was in high school) my friends and I noticed how quiet the hallways were getting thanks to text messaging. less people talking and more of them were getting to class on time. Once we had this pointed out to the hall monitors they had the no-cellphone policy relaxed a little. It was up to the teachers in the classroom what to do with kids when they were texting on class time but cellphones were allowed in the halls.

that and I enjoy a little peace and quiet. I'm kind of awkward with phone conversations and I don't text much anyways. less than 50 a day. considering some of my friends, that's caveman level.

Another reason why texting is much better than calling:

Imagine you're in a noisy pub, and some friend of yours in some random other noisy pub is trying to find you.

"He..., wh...e ar... ...ou?"
"What?"
"Sor..., ..at di....ou j...st ...ay?"
"I said WHAT?"
"..ere are ..ou?"
"We're in the Jack"
"c...'t hea... y..u"
"The JACK"
"...e w...at?!"
"Ah never mind, I'll text you"
"..an you ...epeat ... at?"
"BEEP -- BEEP -- BEEP"

Wouldn't be the first time this happened to me

I don't text much anyways. less than 50 a day. considering some of my friends, that's caveman level. What?! Caveman level?! I usually text less then 10 a week! If I want to talk to someone, I go see him/her in person, maybe find him/her on MSN if I can't. Texting is reserved for short messages like "you going out tonight?", "where are you?", "sry for last night" and the like.

DF, I may have been exaggerating, 50 a day is a bit much for me, but, having a girlfriend whom I can rarely see kinda notches my texting activity up a bit.

between me and friends, < 10 a week

between me and her about 50 a week

Walking, sitting, it doesn't matter where it happens, teenagers seem to need to text. Statistics show 80 percent of all 15 to 18-year-olds own a cell phone. And the rate of texting has sky rocketed 600 percent in three years. The average teen sends 3,000 texts a month.

Yes. I send maybe five or six texts a month on my Blackberry and recieve about the same, although some of those are promotional from AT&T. Most of my texts are work-related and I am terrible at typing on it.

I did it once or twice to make sure it worked, because I'd only just enabled it on my phone. It did. I haven't done it since. I barely ever use my cell phone anyway.

I send rather a lot of messages, and usually keep a chat window open with anyone online - I'm usually talking to people back in Ireland so it's a lot cheaper to keep an email/IM window open on my phone than use SMS.

I use Swype as the keyboard - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmH0vwLu51c

Yep....on my third consecutive Blackberry now. I keep going for a slightly larger (dimensionally) model hoping the keyboard will be expansive enough for my fingers.....fail every time.

Looking for one the size of a house brick next :DL

The member of our band at whose house we rehearse regularly texts us all about the next session. My replies to him are the only time I ever text.

As for phones, I became briefly infatuated with using it for the internet, so when I got my current service I bought a phone with internet and a camera. I've used them so much that when it finally dies I intend to replace it with an el-cheapo model that makes phone calls.

When not using the phone I use skype for communication, at least with that you can see who your talking too. What i find morbid with this texting is those who use it don't have any emotional/mental contact with the receiver at least on a phone you hear their voice texting its nothing.

Can understand if you need to text about work etc but using texting as your main form of communication you mos well be texting to yourself.

I kinda like texting. It's not the most convenient method of communication, but for confirming plans and meeting people, it's extremely handy. Sadly, noone ever texts me, so that capacity in my phone goes largely unused.
