i havent seen a mod yet that fixes a dial up modem connection or dsl that keeps dropping out

but IF (and thats a big IF) you have good uninterupted connection that isnt limited, throttled, or fees added for high bandwith usage then yes the mods do wonders for the game and it is quite enjoyable to play.

I have verizon fios. I really don't have any concerns with internet connections unless my IP is not compatible.my worries are with if my system is fast enough to run the game smoothly.

it should be able to run it but IMO it will very likely have slow fps rates at times and maybe just maybe the occassional CTD issue but i think it will run good enough for you to find out if you like the game enough to justify a computer upgrade.

System requirements as stated on Steam:

OS: Windows® XP (Service Pack 3), Windows Vista® (Service Pack 2), Windows® 7
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo E4400 2 GHz / AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4000+ 2.1 GHz or higher (Intel Core™2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz / AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6 GHz or higher recommended)
Memory: 1 GB (Windows XP) / 2 GB (Windows Vista, Windows 7) (2 GB recommended)
Graphics: 512 MB DirectX® 9.0c-compliant video card(*see supported list)
DirectX®:
Hard Drive: 10 GB (15 GB recommended)
Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compliant sound card
Peripherals Supported: Windows-compliant mouse, keyboard
Internet Connection: 256 kbps Broadband connection (512 kbps connection or better recommended)

Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT / 9 / GTX 200 series
ATI Radeon HD 2600 / HD 3000 / HD 4000 / HD 5000 series
NVIDIA SLI & ATI Crossfire

Your graphics card looks like it would be a severe bottleneck for running the game, if it would run at all. Also an old Pentium 4 may also struggle given that the minimum and recommended CPUs are dual-core or greater.

HAHA Don't listen to that tool that was posted (Can you Run It)

My computer failed (dont know how) and I play SH5 JUST FINE! and with the specs you posted you will be able to as well.

The problem is, after all this time trying to enjoy SH5, I just couldn't.. I guess being used to GWX, I was hoping to get that immerse feeling.. And you will be disappointed.. After all this time, I finally went back to GWX and I am in just utter shock on what a GREAT sim that is. SH5 cannot compare, maybe one day? I doubt it, but for now I know where my home is..

hey fastfed.I play "stock" versions [no mods] of sh3 and sh4 and enjoy both. I may or may not take a chance on sh5.

Its the last PC subsim ever to be made as far as i can see . I think modders have a lifetime to fix it so it will only get better .

No, no. There will be others. I just do not believe that it will be from Ubi and will not be part of the SH series.

I almost bought it the other day, but not yet. I'm sure I'll find it for less than $9 soon, if not somewhere that cheap already.

Still waiting on a real supermod, maybe another year or so. The mods released are nice, but not close to making this the realistic playable game I desire.

But if Sober is working on it....something will come out good.

Im not so sure anyone else will be in a hurry pick up the genre, at least for the forseeable future, it's no big secret that its not much of a money spinner and games develpment cost so much these days.
Any new subsim would have to surpass all of the last 3 silent hunter games - Otherwise every reviewer on the planet will be advising simmers to pick up an SH title for $3 or so.

Then again I suppose we just had Railworks (newish train sim) out not so long ago - so i guess its still possible.
Athough a train sim is technically no where near as complicated as a subsim.
We already have REAL computer driven trains so it can be that difficult.
(And no room for 'AI bugs' when dealing with a real train carring real passengers.)

In my opinion the game is too good. The majority of people who would play the game can't simply because their computer doesn't have the video card or processor (or both) to run it! In fact that is what I think is wrong with the game. It's too good. Yes there are issues and the Game doesn't even get to the end of the war, but technically the general public didn't buy it cause it simply wouldn't run on their computer. The DRM has not been an issue except to the pirates, travellers and individuals who have bad internet providers.

It is one of the best looking simulations in the world and a lot of fun to play. As more and more mods come out it will only get better. And the same goes for SH4. The mods available are really making both these games into GREAT games.

Dale if you add a stick of memory it should be fine as far as meeting the standards, but Ubisofts program that checks out your system to see if it can run SH V,is as hosed up as their pathetic effort to put out a decent sub sim!The program said I didn't have a internet connection.Geez I wonder how I'm typing this reply out!It also missed the amount of ram I have installed.
I'm stuck with the game now,and I should have stuck with my gut feeling, that this was a real loser! The only hope is that the modders can rescue this P.O.S.,but it will take a lot of time.Ubisoft sucks, and they will keep on grinding out unfinished crap as long as people will purchase it!

Have you tried any mods for SH5?

If not, you should.

If yes, post your JSGME list, and I will point you in the right direction to improve your load out. Trust me, with the work that has already been done by us modders, there is no reason why SH5 should be referred to as a loser.

You know what?
I take offence to the "P.O.S." thing!
Sure it's not the 'Perfect' Sim.
But there's a U-Boot load of modders that feel as I do.

The game sucks, but no offense to the modders. They have done a great deal for all of the SH series, and they have my deepest admiration. The fact is the SH V is horrid.and I wasted my money. My puter should have ran it easy, but I had a jumpy mouse cursor, and I was unable to play the game.Steelviking I used sobers mod lineup pretty much to the letter, but I have to think one of the mods was causing my grief. It plays O.K. on vanilla,so I know it has to be a mod thing.I think if one just used the small mods, you might get by,as I think the larger graphic mods could be the problem.I also think if you have to run so many mods to get the game right, you are going to leave the door open for problems. After I get done being mad at myself for buying it in the first place,I will go back and install each mod,one at a time,to find the culprit.I don't give up easy, and I will continue to work at SH V,to try and make a purse out of a pigs ear!

I know you must be disappointed with SH5, I was too when I first got it.
I tried a few mods and warmed to it but then I just got more disappointed when I realised how much was missing so I uninstalled it.
But I have recently reinstalled it and tried some more mods and I can now see the potential it holds.
I now don't look to ubisoft for SH5's future but to the modders and it is them that holds the games future in their hands.
I know they are all very modest but personally I think they're genius's who can do far more with this game than I ever could.
As much as I love GWX3 and SH4+ op monsun and TMO, I am beginning to love SH5 just as much.

Yes Barso I'm disappointed in SH V,but I shouldn't have got so upset,as I did it to myself.W/O the modders we wouldn't have a decent subsim to enjoy. Now I'm just going to attack the problem in the best way possible.I really dislike the fact that Ubisofts program to see if you will be able to run the game, missed my ram and internet connection.I'm thinking if the program thinks I don't have 6 Gigs of ram,it could effect my gameplay.I keep trying as best I can.

I can probably narrow down your search for which mod was slowing down your fps. My shadow improvement mod is only meant to be used on top of the line computers. As a result, it causes a lot of people to have fps drop. I have a lower resource usage version though, so you could try that.

Barso
09-09-10, 02:20 PM
Also you're not running sli, are you?
I had a GTX295 which are 2 cards sandwiched together and it was only using one card as SH5 didn't have an sli profile.
I sold it and bought a GTX480 and now SH5 looks and runs perfectly.
Also the startup program only stated I had 4GB but I used the 4GB program that can be found here and now runs great.
I only run TDW's mods and steel vikings mods.
I prefer to run as little mods as possible to limit any conflicts.

Thank you SteelViking and Barso.Yes I was using your shadow mod,and my puter while pretty fast isn't top of the line,as the line changes too fast, LOL.Barso I am running 2 Nvidia Gforce 250's in SLI,and I know I could probably go to a single video card, and do better.I will give it another go w/o the shadows, and with fewer mods until I can get it stable. Thanks for the help.

I use your Low Resource version and I don't think I noticed any drop in performance. Didn't even dare to use the HR version though.

The gtx295 is basically 2 gtx250's running sli.
Add a SH5.exe to the control panel and run the game in AFR1 or AFR2 from the nvidea control panel.
AFR2 improved performance for me when in the sub.
But you may be better just running on 1 GPU.

Barso I took SteelViking's suggestion and removed the shadow mod.SH V runs fine now,but I'm still getting used to the interface.I'm using Church's keyboard commands, and that is helping.I'm not using but eleven mods right now, adding them as I find a need. Thanks for all the help.
