View Full Version : Couple of questions concerning manual targeting

I have GWX 3.0 and the ACM-GUI Reloaded mod. I have been trying to get the hang of manual targeting for the longest time, and I just can't seem to get it. The manual for the ACM-GUI mod for manual targeting is no good. I was just confused by that. I know how to use the wheel thingy. What I specifically want to know are what are the two AOB gauges for in the attack periscope/UZO/TDC? I know how to set the speed of the target and the range, but I need to know what the other two gauges are for. When I see AOB, does it mean the target's angle off of MY bow, or my angle off of the TARGET'S bow? And that other gauge with the thin needle. What exactly does that do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry but without a screen shot, it's hard to answer all your questions. However one thing is certain - there is only one AOB dial. Green on the right and red on the left, each side marked from 0d to 180d. You set it to indicate the angle of your sub off the targets bow.

Some mods also have a similar looking dial to indicate the angle of the torpedo impact, but you can't set it.

You might want to have a look at OLC's tutorial videos (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1112)
It's a similar GUI to ACM (I believe ACM is derived from it.).

If you haven't done so, you also might want to try out some of the other GUI's like OLC and MaGui, they all have different design philosophies

As has been said, the AOB is set from the targets point of view. red for port, green for starboard.

I would guess that the gauge with the thin needle would be the range, it's marked in hundred's of meters. so 3 is 300, 10 is 1000 etc.

IIRC in ACM Reloaded, the top left dial is target speed, the top right is range, the bottom right is the angle from your ship to the target, which you don't touch, it's determined by the periscope. and lastly, the bottom left is AOB.

Which one? Bottom left or bottom right:

Left is AOB, meaning the angle between you and the target's bow from his view point.

Right is solution bearing, which is the angle between your bow and him from your point of view, and also the same as the periscope/UZO bearing. So useless to set it up if you are using the scopes.
