How to shoot at airplanes?

Will the anti-air station shoot at airplanes automatically when they get in range or do I have to lock on some how?

I can seems to get the anti-air stations into engage enemy planes.

Get Multi UI mod and there's icons you can tweak your gunner to shoot long, medium and short ranges automatically. When a plane is spotted activate your gunner.

Shooting the deck gun and the flak gun in SH5 is more limited and simpler than in the previous SH series. Once you have ordered the guns to be manned, you, as the captain, need to indicate the targets by using your binoculars and pressing the space bar.

Does this work with the AA guns ? so far all my AA gunners do is stand at their posts and get shot up.
Frustrating to say the least.

Never tried to shot airplanes with my VIIa, because Men not trained enough and the gun is not strong enough, thus it end with shell thickness by 80 to 50 %:wah:

With my VIIb and double twin AA guns 80 % of Aircrafts trying to hit me go for a swim. Mostly i take the flak at the conservatory and my men will support me with the other. Without giving a command except men the guns. Firing balance by 50/50 for me or my crew. Good guys on boat are life saving :know::up:
