View Full Version : Kingston Upon Hill
I just started my 5th patrol out of Kiel and I got some interesting orders out of SH3Gen. It told me to sneak into the British port Kingston Upon Hull, or just "Hull" on the nav map. Has anyone ever been here? What should I expect? Is it heavily patrolled? Minefields? Subnets? There is only one way in or out, so I'm wondering what escaping will be like. Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried to find the latest SH3Gen (the tracking room edition or something), but the links seem to be broken. Anyone here knows where I can find it? Thx!!
Google was quick. ;)

Hull is very heavily patrolled so sneaking out again very quickly is usually recommended; you'll often see swarms of police vans rounding up hooligans in the city centre, especially when football (soccer) is involved in any way, shape or form. As for the city itself, it's a grimy half derelict hive of scum and villainy
Oh wait, you mean im the game?

If you're using GWX expect to have to find your way through the east coast barrage. If i recall rightly there will be a lightship for Spurn Point in the Humber estuary, a couple of tugs kicking around and not much else. I think there are a couple of convoys that make their way into the Humber estuary as well, but I may be mistaken of course. Someone like Jimbuna or Sailor Steve could tell you better.

Ha, Ha! I live just across the river (and down a bit...) from 'Ull (they never pronounce the 'H', 'eathens). Been most of the way down the Humber but couldn't find anything other than a lightship. I've still yet to run into mines or subnets on the east coast, I usually head up to Blyth and get the sitting ducks there.
If you do venture 'Ull way on - be careful when you get bored and TC your way out of the estuary, Spurn Point is like a hook of sand waiting for unsuspecting U-boat kaluens:nope:

Here is the thread for it -

Basically you sail 200km out of port and save game, Alt tab out of SH3.
Start SH3Gen and locate your profile and saved file, start the generation.
Load saved game.
And hey presto your map has suspected/last known locations of both single vessels, task forces and convoys, and your captain's orders/briefing includes what vessels are suspected of being where, i.e. Loch Ewe - HMS Viperous, HMS Compass Rose (courtesy of The Cruel Sea, Nicholas Monserrat, that I'm currently reading :D)
You can alter the accuracy of intelligence, and some other things I can't remember off the top of my head.
The only problem I've come across is that occassionally it'll put some convoys/vessels inland :hmmm: but lets just call that a very dry dock.
I haven't played with the GIS mapping yet but sounds like it should be good.

the port of Hull has patrols swarming. I only got close enough to get heavy sonar contacts just out side the river.
:hmmm: BTW, do you mean Port of Hull or Port of Kingston? :hmmm:

I'm still only early years '39 - '41, maybe it gets more busy later but I can find no docks on the map?
I mean Hull, UK - not Kingston, Jamaica.
Yeah, that's where I'm supposed to go. It's November of '39, so I hope there aren't that many patrols. I'll get in there today and post my results later. Maybe a few screenshots too.
