View Full Version : Retired after four patrols by SH3 Commander
I don't recall ever having such a short career, other than by being KIA. SH3 Commander retired my commander, Kapitanleutnant Herbert Mast after four patrols, Knight's Cross, 27 ships of 158,469 tons, including two warships, HMS Newcastle and HMS Rodney. I have been assigned to U-boat flotilla Weddigen as commander of training. I would have had one more ship of about 10,000 tons, but I saved the game while the ship was sinking, exited to adjust my anti-alias settings, reloaded, watched the ship sink and then did not get credit for the sinking. Lesson: don't reload when a ship is sinking. C'est le guerre! I was going to use my accumulated renown to take command of a Type IX, but I got transferred ashore. I bet those dogs Prien, Kretschmer and Schepke will pass me in the tonnage score, while I rot away on shore, nursemaiding a bunch of wet behind the ears kids.
Man, I love this game and how SH3 Commander makes your careers both interesting and unpredictable. In my opinion, the tonnage scores tend to be less arcadish and more believeable. Time to start a new career at the part of the war where my last career ended.

Or use Commander's 'Unretire' function. :D
I know, it just doesn't seem right to do it, but sometimes ya just gotta.
I might just do that. I've never done it before, so I have no idea at which point in the war you next active duty status will be launched. As well, I see an option to continue career with a new commander. Will that allow me to retain the same crew but with a new Kaleun?
Know what? I think I'll just try the option to carry on with a new commander and see what happens.
Hmmm. That's not working out like I thought it would. When SH3 Commander retired my Kaleun, he was in command of a VIIB and had enough renown accumulated to take command of a IXB, but when I choose continue career with a new commander I do not have enough renown to continue with a VIIB. Am I doing something wrong?
For now I will simply begin a distinctly new career in time where my previous Kaleun retired.

I don't know. I've only ever unretired one kaleun, and he was in a Type II. I only did it because at that time Commander only based its decisions on number of patrols. Now it also includes days at sea, and maybe some other factors I don't know about.

The 'continue career with new comander' function is exactly that. You are keeping your old boat with an experienced crew and upgrades, but you lose the renown your old kaleun earned.
The new guy has to start from the bottom again.
You won't have enough renown with the new kaleun to buy a new boat, but I don't know why you didn't get the type VII you already had with your retired kaleun.
Never had that problem.
I'm still scratching my head over that one. I even tried editing the relevant files to give my new Kaleun the renown needed to get the VIIB, but no luck. First time I've ever had a renown edit not work.
Problem solved! My career is in a VIIB in second flotilla out of Wilhelmshaven. I had chosen second flotilla out of Kiel, thus being faced with a Type II. I am now outbound in my VII.

Also....at the end of your first patrol you'll be able to edit the DeltaRenown.
