Hi,
As I use SubCommander with real transfers enabled, one of my senior officers (the best one) was given his own boat to command and was replaced by a rookie without any qualifications.
As I am a roleplaying fanatic, and to spice up my campaign, I imagined that this rookie officer was indeed a spy that BdU ordered me to deliver somewhere in the Orkneys.
So, as this is a dangerous mission (and not being a modder myself), I would like to know what file should I modify to get some extra renown (how much would you give me for that?) AND if I can dismiss the officer in mid patrol without the game crashing and losing yet another career.
Also... do you consider this mission to be realistic? And do you guys do some roleplaying like that with SH3 or am I being really weird?
Thx!

I love the idea.
While the free campaign of SH III is brilliant, it'd be great to get the occasional order from BDU to undertake a particular mission.

I agree. It is great that we can pretty much go where our fuel takes us, but I do miss 'special missions'. When I used to play the original Silent Hunter I remember you would get orders for photo-recon missions or to pick up downed pilots.
Just a nice change of pace now and again.
I'd say 500 renown would be a good number for completing a special mission.

I think it's realistic, but I don't know if you can dismiss someone in the middle of a patrol. I kind of don't think so.

SH4 gives you those kinds of missions all the time, including dropping off spies. What it doesn't give you is a name or face for the spies you are to drop off or of the pilots you pick up. In SH1 I found myself pretending a lot. And now with SH4 it's the same.

I think once you've successfully 'landed' him, you have to also collect another, and just maybe leave him (anyone modded some female crew yet just for a laugh?) in quarters?
Oh, found the crew - still not sure if it's all male still... :har:

Don't have SH4 yet and wondered about that. Good to know.

I was thinking more about 100 to 150 renown... Sailor Steve, how much does sh4 give for such special missions) does sh4 work with renown at all?) Do you know which file should I change ?
And no, apparently you cannot change the crew while on patrol.
If you want to add a little more RP to your patrols, you might consider SH3Gen. Ok so it won't fulfill your needs in regards to getting extra renown (nothing will, except editing), but it does produce mission orders that include rendezvous with ships in neutral ports, harbor raids and the like. It also gives you intelligence on shipping movements and harbor defenses that are configurable so you can have a lot of reliable info or less, more unreliable intelligence.
Anyway, it adds a lot of atmosphere to the game and I think you'd appreciate what it offers, see the main thread for a full rundown of it's features here:

Oh, I forgot to mention that I already use shgen, but I was unaware that it provided with rendezvous and missions. I was under the impression that it gave intel about ship location, harbour traffic, and specific background info of the month. Maybe I have an outdated version. I'll check it, thanks!
For something like you're talking about, a one time (or at the most infrequent) event its easiests just to modify the amount of renown you're awarded at the end of each patrol. While calculating this number takes into a number of different things into consideration, you can cut corner and just add x amount of renown to the final sum. You'll need to modify your 'Delta Renown' in two files - Patrols and Patrols 0. Just add the extra renown to that delta renown and the game with automatically calculate it ad add it to your existing renown. The file can be find at:
