I would like to back up my Ps3 so I can keep my save files if it decides to bite the bucket. The process is fairly simple, expect for the fact that the external hard drive you back up too needs to be in FAT32.

My 500 gig HD which has about 300 gigs of free space is NTFS. My questions are:
1. Is it possible to make a FAT32 partition in an NTFS drive?
and 2. Is it possible to make a partition without deleting the other content on the drive?

I do not have the room to back up my external HD to my computer(although I'm backing up the hardest stuff to replace which comes in at around 58 gigs)(I had 59 gigs free before backing up said data :har:)

Welp, with the help of Windows 7 I was able to easily shrink my main partition(without losing any data) on my External hard drive. I shortly realized afterwords that Windows will not let you make Fat32 partitions over 32gigs.

So I tried to use the 32 gigs to back up my ps3, only to get told that I need at least 145 gigs more. :haha: After resizing again I split my external drive into 1 300 gig NTFS partition, and 1 200 gig exfat partition.

With a little bit of findangling™ I was able to use command prompt(and this file I found online) to change the partition to Fat32. The ps3 recognized it and now I'm sitting here waiting while my ps3 backs up. The estimated time is 8 hours and 43 minutes. :har:

Brave man to mess with your partitions like that. Kudos you got it working.

Can't you explore the PS3 disk from a PC or something? Instead of trying to get the PS3 to recognize external storage, it might work the other way around. :hmmm:

I have no way to connect the Ps3 and the PC in a way that the PC would recognize it.
