I adored Silent Hunter 3 with GWX and 4 with Trigger Maru, but the combination of massive bugs with the initial release and the awful, awful DRM of Silent Hunter V meant I didn't grab it right away.

For those of you who don't know, Impulse is Stardock's digital distribution service, which if it had the wide selection of games and the ludicrously good deals of Steam, I would have dumped Steam and used instead, as rather than having to run games through the program, it merely lets you download the game as an installer so you don't have to worry about the crapshoot that is Steam's offline mode.

My question is, should I pick Silent Hunter V up? Has Ubisoft patched it to a playable state? Have the modders come through and massively improved the stock game? Is there a crack/patch out there I can use in good conscience to avoid having to deal with the terrible DRM (which is doubly annoying considering the dodgy nature of the wireless in my university apartment)?

Yes, buy it. Yes, the latest patch makes it playable. :yeah: Yes, the modders have made it highly enjoyable. No, as much as DRM sucks, I can't condone cracks. :arrgh!:

Happy hunting!:salute:

if your talking about a download then i would wait for a better price but if its a disk then thats a decent enough price even though i think you could find it cheaper if you dont rush to buy it

should I pick Silent Hunter V up?
YES, but for 25 bucks? NO.

Has Ubisoft patched it to a playable state?

NO, NO, NO, NO

I'd say, without our modders here, this game is best served cold, or a tray for Hot Choco cup..

Multiplayer is crappy and if you have a bad WiFi, dont even think about MP, its as worse as can be...
