Heh, this reminds me - I downloaded this from Ubi (I had a coupon for use at their revamped online store) and never got around to installing it.

I can't even find time to play 3 these days. :wah:

Im gonna hazard a guess that out of the most current three SH titles, SH4 probably the most under appreciated. Many people seem to pretend it doesn't exist. If you listen to people on the SH5 forum, the SH series starts with 3, and ends with 5. Anywho, this threads probably in the wrong forum, and i doubt anyone cares about the topic anyway. Im guessing most people who would play SH4, already own it.

TBH I only bought it when I did because of the coupon, since I planned on buying it eventually anyway and the discount seemed like a good incentive to take the plunge. But I'm not sure when I'll be able to get it installed and take a look at it.

Will I take as much of a liking to it as I did SH3? Dunno. Would I have been as interested in it without the u-boat addon? Probably not, but that's without any experience of the original game at all.

Anyway, it's gonna be a while before I have any interest at all in SH5, so I figure it's worth a try.

Theater certainly has alot to do with it. I can understand having a preference, but i've found people are very close minded about it. That used to really upset me, but ive moved on from being upset, to just disappointed.

But I don't think it's just theater preference. You can do some VERY COOL things for uboats, and hardly anyone will take notice. Sh4 simply doesn't exist to people. *shrug* I'm fine with that I suppose, cause it lets me off the hook for having to support another mod i don't have the energy for anyway :O: I think another part of the reason is things like the UI and peoples natural resistance to change. People i think, tend to want, or stick with what they know, only updated to make it look more pretty. If it's different, or lacks familiaritiy, they're put off.

Huh. I bought the SH4 bonus pack w/ U-Boat missions on a total whim a couple of years ago (Cool! Subs!), and then ignored it for another 18 months while I attempted to become proficient in sim racing (Current proficiency level = "Doesn't Totally Suck On Occasion"). In March of this year, however, I suffered a major system kablooee that caused me to spend lots of time and money in repairs and upgrades. I reloaded SH4 as a result and haven't played anything else since. I havn't even tried the U-Boat missions, as I'm still trying to get to "proficient" on fleet boats.

But I hear SH3 is pretty good, so I'm thinking that I should download it before I can't find it again - even if I don't play it for another 3 years. Ya think?

Yeah, as I've stated elsewhere, I'm nowhere near as familiar with the PTO as I am with the ETO for various reasons... and it's hard to have a preference for something you don't know as much about, and/or to which you don't feel a close personal attachment.

Playing SH4 may change that, if and when I can find time to devote to it. If I really like the game, it may spark a lot more curiosity about elements of the RL history that I never explored before. Anyway I am curious, if only because I know my knowledge is somewhat lacking in that area. So we'll see what happens. And I know any mods that make the game a better experience will be appreciated.

So far all my SH4 playing is in u-boats, using OM and parroting my SH3 careers. SH4 is better all 'round, except in the mods department. Still hoping for mods that match all the SH3 goodies available. I can't play fleet boats until I get to December '41 in game, and that may not be for years.

That said, SH4 is better visually and viscerally, and smoother as well.

Also there's a new u-boat mod for SH4, by some guy. Can't remember his name offhand, though. :D
