View Full Version : DM Question
Hi all
Its been a while since I have been on here, I loved SH3 and SH4, but not played for ages. Then I notice that SH5 is out. Its also back to the atlantic (my favorite part)
I noticede thopugh on some other forums that to play the game it goes through DRM (?)
Sorry if this has been asked (I did try a search first), but what is DRM and do you need to be online to play this game (or start the game)?
Thanks in advance

Took not even 2 seconds on Google...

Seriously, the search function here is lame at best, and annoying at worst (thanks to some poor attempt at stopping spam that really achieves nothing but annoying legitimate posters searching the archives).
If you want to search the SH5 forum for DRM, go to Google and type:
drm site:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=244
That will give you a more specific idea of how this community reacted to Ubisoft's exciting news. It's all there, and hopefully enough to dissuade another thread going down the same road...

to search the SH5 forum (remove the forumdisplay.php?f=244 to search all Subsim).
Is an excellent tip - I'd forgotten how "hobbled" the in house search function is nowadays apologies to the OP

Digital Rights Management. You must be online at all times while playing SH5.
Thanks all. Its a bit bad having to be online to play so I think I will give it a miss.

You and half the the subsimmers around the world mate :)
I have a follow-on question about DRM. I know you have to have an internet connection and it has to be on when playing the game. I read somewhere that if the connection goes down, it only keeps you from saving the game but doesn't kick you from play. In other words, you can continue your patrol if your computer drops the internet connection but you can't save the game until the connection is restored. Is that correct?

No you get kicked out of the game.

Aahhh. That really sucks. I may not get this after all. I have internet on my gaming pc but the connection occasionally drops and reconnects and I'm not sure why but it sounds like it would make playing SH5 intolerable. Thanks for the answer. :damn:

In the spirit of fairness I would have to say that it's quite rare for this to happen. There have been problems with the servers but only occasionally, you can see this by checking this forum. Each time the server goes down someone inevitably posts a "server down" thread.

I was referring to my own internet connection. It sometimes drops the connection and as I understand it that means the game would drop me too, correct?

Ahh yes - that would be true.
