Hey Guys,

My first post here so hello to all.

I've got a copy of SH5 on the way -- it should arrive in short order -- and I've been hunting around these forums looking at what everyone's been saying/doing. Looks like a great community going on with a lot of talent and wisdom.

From what I can see, it looks like sh5 will be a great game at some future point... and therein lies my first question...

I'm new to subsims -- never had a SH title before -- but, I'm not new to sims (falcon 4 pre 1.08 if anyone knows what I'm talking about, armaII, il2) so I know about the dance usually involved to get these monsters running. The problem I'm having is that I just have no idea about what mods to use.

I've read about pretty much all the mods available and I'm confused as to what's compatible with what and which mods are stable at this point.

I realise I've caught this at a pretty fresh moment where there's a fair amount of flux, but some advice would be welcome.

I'm looking for a current list of mods that would amount to an unnofficial patch for all (or as many as possible) of the remaining bugs after 1.2 -- plus any other good stuff :)

Here's my priority (Highest to lowest):

Bugfixes
AI
Sim accuracy/depth
Historical accuracy
Eyecandy/Earcandy
followed by anything else that ads depth and character

If any of you kind folks share this kind of vision and have a stable game, would you be kind enough to post your load orders? It'd be much welcomed and appreciated.

I realize that a lot of this will be down to the individual, but I'm all ears.

Many thanks

P

NewUIs_TDC_3_9_x_ByTheDarkWraith is a good start, then you can tweak from there.

You should see the improvements list lengthening as each week passes http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/welcome.gif

@Sober -- Thanks for the list -- looks like a good staring point. I've seen many of your mods on my walkthrough of the forums. They look great.

@longam -- I had my eye on the UI by TDW. Looks very good. Thanks for the advice. At this point though, I want to avoid tweaking as much as possible. I've found that any games I've had that are mod dependent I tend to spend more time selecting mods and messing around with files than I do playing :) I want to give this game a different approach and, well, spend time actually playing it!

@Sailor Steve -- Thank you

@Jimbuna -- I expect so. And if my experience with other sims is born out, the community always manages to take things above and beyond what could ever have been hoped for. Looking forward to seeing how this develops!

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome and happy hunting! :salute:

The one "must have," from Sober's list, is Jones Software Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME). This will make adding, removing and managing what will be a long list of mods much easier and keep you sane. :yeah:

Thanks Voss! Glad to be here -- just wish my copy would actually arrive! Seems USPS is still using the pony express out of CA because they're saying it's gonna be THREE weeks 'till it arrives in PA!!!

And thanks for the tip on the mod manager -- that sure looks like it'll simplify things :)

Back to the mod lists -- what are peoples views on the pros and cons of using TDW UI versus Reaper7's HIRES UI. They both look extraordinary and seem to have a lot of functionality, but in different ways.

Again, many thanks to all!

Cheers
P
