View Full Version : SH5, the death of a franchise.

As you may know ubisoft has said that they are no longer working on SH5 that means no patches,no DLC, no improvements. This is down to poor sales and the fact that they would not make any money from improving the game.
The poor sales are mainly down to the DRM, this is why i haven't bought it and why i imagine most fans haven't. Also it was released way t early, if they released it now with about 4 months more development it may of worked.

So the writings on the wall, with no finacial gain in making another silent hunter game we can assume that UBI will not make one. So SH5 is the end of the line.

What? You don't like threads about sky color? Or maybe you think someone who likes red sky at night doesn't have an opinion worth posting! It's people like you who drag this forum down to the depths of the...of the...darkest depths, you Subsim zombie, you!

Oh, you meant the death of SH5! Well, umpteen may not be enough, you know.

+1 is always better.

Or so I've heard.

What!? Ubisoft did it to me again. On my Vizio hokey kokey 5MB GTX video card it looks orange! That's it...I'm never buying a Ubisoft product again. And why does my game say 'install Starforce to resolve this issue'?

The graphic is only compatible with a certain model of KrashTech video card. Please purchase the newest, most expensive KrashTech video card, and update the drivers to the latest payware drivers available from our website. Also, be sure that the KrashFizziks software (a separate payware download) is properly installed and that you have a functioning MatLab suite running on a cluster. Any divergence from the above will result in an orange, or possibly even chartreuse, graphic.

And why does my game say 'install Starforce to resolve this issue'?You have misread the dialog, and we certainly do not make typographic errors here. Install the Purchaser Identification/Tracking Drivers and that should resolve the issue. :yep:

That is strange. Starforce is only for the sky at night.

Ah yes, that very long running Brit tv programme that was hosted by Sir Patrick Moore http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/8669/skyatnightmoore21.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/i/skyatnightmoore21.jpg/)

Do you have time to post a link to the sales figures you have? I haven't seen any yet and if you have access to them, it would be good to have a look at them. I've not known Ubi to release sales figures before for the SH series, so this is a turn up for the books. Also a link to the report giving the cause of the poor sales would also be interesting reading.

Oh yes and if there has been a definite announcement that there will be further patches or DLC then that would enable some modding to be started without fear of a patch or DLC killing it all, because so far they have said is 'there is no dev team at the moment, but things could change' so a definite no would be good, if it can be confirmed. Have you got a link?

So if I want red sky at morning I need SecureRom? Or do I have to wait for a mod?

Sorry yes, I did go off topic there.

Either wait for W_Clear's red sky environment mod, or you could use a pair of rose tinted glasses to view the morning sky. Using an environment mod may cause problems, as there will be the inevitable argument over whether the sky is the right shade of red. One guy who used to be a shephard for 20 years will say that it's exactly right and some other guy who says that he used to be a part time shephard during a summer holiday will say that's it's completely wrong, so you can never really tell. Then some other guy will point out that it's actually spelt 'shepherd', maybe post a dictionary definition and that any real shepherd would know that, therefore the opinion of the first 'shephard' doesn't count (but interestingly the second shephard's opinion still stands). Then people will post some photos that show vastly different morning sky views to support to accurate/inaccurate view. Then a new thread will be started about the redness of the sky...

You know, it's pobably best to stick with the rose tinted glasses for their dual action of both literal and metaphorical rose-tinting. Even if it doesn't look good, you'll remember that it did.

And thus, the WIP thread of many a mod has been explained. Seriously, you just described every one of them that I have ever seen.

The answer is in the game manual on page one hundred fourty-two, paragraph six, line three, word eleven. :arrgh!:

Krashkart made the original wisecrack, merely to complain about yet another thread about an already overworked subject, and after Jimbuna complained for real I'm the one who grabbed that ball and ran with it, so you you have nothing to apologize for. This thread deserved to be derailed right from the start.

Steve? I think the +1 thing is referring to sex...at least that's the context I've heard it in. And hey, with no worrying about SH5 it allows me more time for that +1 thing. As for the color of the sky? I wouldn't know I was facing toward the ground.

Sorry if we're all a little jaded but after the 300,000,000th "UBI suxs" post , well we've kinda seen it.

So - back on topic , If there is a red sky at night , I cant leave port on a Friday? Do I also need a permanent connection to the sea ? Or is there a mod for this now?

Yes, indeed. There have been enough arguments over the game. It's time to move forward. That's really all we're getting at. :yep:

If there is a red sky at night , I cant leave port on a Friday? Do I also need a permanent connection to the sea ? Or is there a mod for this now?Technically, you should stay in port on either occasion. There is a way around the red sky; simply purchase a lower-end KrashTech video card (on sale now for $1500 USD) and red skies will be rendered in a ghastly neon vomit green color. This is not due to the cheap electronics we use to manufacture the Kraphtech video cards. It's Sailor Steve's fault. :O:

There are mods that help you get around the problem of being permanently connected to the sea, but after much testing we have found that these mods actually keep you permanently connected to the mainland even after ending a gaming session. And don't look at what is left under your pillow after installing such a mod. :D

Umm, I'm afraid it's kind of hard-coded. There is a workaround, but it has the side-effect of making the sub stay in one place for the whole patrol. So far this bug seems to be unfixable.
