I know this has been asked but I can't find it.
IXD2, reloading torpedos from external, they blank out.
Is there a fix and can you direct me to it.
It would be greatly appreciated.

you can only reload from your externals in calm seas... while surfaced.... simply drag them from your external slots to your internal reseve slots.... then they load into the tubes:yeah: (edit) the process is vary slow... can take 45 mins.. use TC if u want em quicker

I know that much, but thank you anyway.
In my game, even in calm seas, when you reload from the externals, as soon as you move them, the whole thing goes blank, and there are no torpedos.
This is some kind of bug.

no, they go blank for the hour it takes to load them. Man the AA guns while you wait. Do a mouse-over and it should tell you how long to go.

You are correct it is an old bug but I haven't seen the fix posted for a few years now and having checked my old files, I'm unable to locate it.
If it is any consolation it is fixed in the GWX3.0 super mod.

I was thinking it was the "IXD flak and battery fix" but I could be wrong.

I wouldn't like to say...it's been that long :hmmm:
My practice, in concession to real world limitations, has been to reload externals in a calm sea, boat stopped or moving very slowly, and obviously away from the enemy. If I have to crash dive because of a plane, I consider that torpedo "lost" for the duration of the patrol. In reality, a crew would cut it loose and dive away. It would take a few seconds or minutes to either dismantle or abandon the external winch used to load them. You could use that time to simulate the crew abandoning the torpedo and dismantling/abandoning the winch, and it would not be available again until you returned to port.

Pretty much the way I do it :yep:

I have a feeling that in RL getting caught with your pants down loading externals, the sub itself was a loss and sunk to the bottom. Thus... they didn't bother with externals to begin with.
They did use them. I've seen pics and film of them doing so. It was quite an operation: They erected a winch over the deck hatch for the stern or bow compartment, retrieved the torpedo from the deck cannister, attached life vests to them in order to increase their buoyancy and floated them to the winch, assisted by running the boat decks awash. In order to retrieve them, the sub would withdraw to a quiet area, which became problematic as the war progressed. By the latter stages of the war, wherein the Allies covered just about every square inch of the ocean with planes and hunters, it was rare for a U-boat to be in the position of having fired off all of its internal torpedoes. Unfortunately, the game's engine does not simulate this in a realistic fashion, at all! For example, if you dive while reloading an external torpedo, all the game does is suspend the activity. When you surface, the countdown resumes from where it was halted. In real life? The sub was very vulnerable to attack; at best, the torpedo was cut adrift. At worst, the sub was lost. Still, I cannot recall having read many accounts, if any, of a U-boat being lost only because it was caught in the act of reloading an external torpedo. The operation was usually done in a quiet area, often at night before the Allies deployed airborne radars. The practical usage of external torpedoes closely paralled the use of the deck gun. If it was safe enough to use a deck gun, it was safe enough to use an external torpedo, and vice versa.
As mentioned earlier, I restrict myself to a more realistic handling of external torpedoes. I withdraw from a convoy if I am in contact, stop or run the boat very slowly in a calm or near calm sea and then reload it. To judge whether it is feasible to reload, I observe the boat from external viewpoint. If the seas are breaking over the deck, I do not reload. If I am jumped, I simulate several minutes of "cutting away the torpedo and abandoning the deck winch." Then I crash dive and make a note that the relevant torpedo is now "lost."
Do a Google Image search using this term and you will find U-boat crews loading torpedoes into U-boats both in port and at sea:
U-boat crews reloading [or loading] external torpedoes.
I'm a bit too busy at the moment to save the images and then post them. Trust me, they are there for the viewing.
