If on X day at Y time a convoy/task force appears at Z coordinates, will a convoy/task force always appear at Z on day X at Y time in any campaign? In other words, will there be a fat prize waiting for me in the exactly same place at the exactly same time every time I play? Or is it completely random (other than the historic engagements)?

I'm only midway through 1943 in my second full campaign, which started off agonizingly sloooooooowww (except for constant air attacks). I guess my mind had plenty of time to wander, and now it's bugging me. Anybody know?

That's a good question and I too would like to know the answer but it depends on what campaign you are playing. I am playing RSRD with RFB mod. It will matter what mods you are using if any to answer this one.

Traffic is usually created using "Random Generated Groups" in the mission editor. So whether the ship is in the group or not is random (can be set to 100% so it is not random, but usually isn't) and then the group is set to generate at a random time, for example every 24 hours, and also has a % that is will/will not be generated.
The next step is to give it a set of waypoints to follow. These can have alternate routes in them that determine by % which way the ship goes.

So if someone just sets up a simple group that generates 100% of the time and the time is something like every 24 hours, you may see the same ships in the same place at the same time. But that does not always happen.

So the simple answer is still "maybe"
