They didn't say Ali Cremer was better than life insurance for nothing.

I highly recommend his book - a short read but a good one, wish it was about ten times longer.

BTW this interview is from the Wolf Pack episode of The World At War, also highly recommended (the whole thing, not just that episode).

Probably my favorite first-person account by a commander so far. Overall he comes across (IMO) as an extremely thoughtful human being.

It was especially poignant because in the book you find out that while his father was German, his mother was French and one of his grandparents was English. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be a young officer and one day wake up to find that your country is at war with two other nations with which you are so intimately connected.

One of my favorites as well. I have read many books about the Battle of the Atlantic, but his is the one I find myself going back to again and again.
