I bought this game recently, the DVD edition. I installed, patched to 1.2 and start the game but I get the error that is saying I need a internet connection bla,bla... I have solid internet connection, no proxy (just user and password to log on to the broadband) , I have WinXP x86 Sp3, Intel Core duo 2,3Ghz, 3GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS and all other new games work. I skimmed the ubi forum , too and I am not the only one and there is no solution to this. I wrote to the support service, they didn't answer. Can anyone help? Do you have a tip how to make the game start ? (reinstalling didn't work, I tried it already)

Are you positive no type of firewall is blocking the game to connect? Or if it's using any ports, should you be using a router?

Even if you already have; check the built-in Windows firewall as it tends to live a life of its own sometimes.

Nope none of these. The windows built-in firewal is ok, exceptions activated for SH5 and its launcher. I don't have a router. Just cable directly to the internet. The service team answered me to my notification and told me that "there were some problems at that time"...that being yesterday .But today is the same ...:) It won't work with the same error. By the way, when you answer to this post...is SH5 for you WORKING ? This is important to tell me. If your game works and mine not....then I am pretty sure that the DVD kit has something to do with, not UBI servers.Or are there more servers on UBI ?? If they are...then the problems it's probably there. I already answered my question... Hahahaha!Does anyone know, how does an original SH5 kit connect to UBI servers? It does randomly or there are a specific IP addresses , each for some SH5 kits ? I know it sounds silly but I will still ask that.

Last night it worked for me – a while at least, didn't play much. Right now though I'm in a bit of a pinch so I can't really try it out at the moment.
Sure sounds strange though. If you want you (or anybody else for that matter) could always try to find out where the trace leads to. A simple "netstat -a" in the cmd-promt can do wonders. If nothing else, your firewall ought to tell you which IP adresses your machine connects to and I doubt you'd have any any active connections to Ubi unless it's heading for their authentication servers.

Firewall tells you to which you connect to...IF you can connect to that machine;)
The netstat -a command revealed nothing of use. This is what the launcher to UBI says:

What is "oldfile.txt"? And what is ..."Failed to decrypt the user password" ?? Do I have to make an account first or something ? I have another question...the game when installed didn't ask me the serial of my DVD. Or this is what UBI server would if I logged in succesfull ? I guess the latter.

Could always try pinging the servers and run a traceroute to see how far your connection is going.

the address static3.cdn.ubi.com is responding to ping. But that's it. Nothing else.
