Very cool report. Indeed, the whole website with the technical reports and interviews is amazing. The whole attitude of the crew is interesting, the fact it's only November of '41 and most think the war isn't going well for Germany and that a lot of them lack a lot of experience aboard a U-boat.

I've read many of the reports on that site over the years, yet I don't recall reading that one.
"Many of his petty officers thought he was too old for the job." He was 34. Yep, sounds like wartime to me.

It seems kind of amazing that the U-111 was sunk by an armed trawler. The whole event seems like a bunch of poor decisions by her Captain.

I've read many of the reports on that site over the years, yet I don't recall reading that one.
They've upped many British interrogation reports (http://www.uboatarchive.net/BritishInterrogationReports.htm) on the site now - IMHO more interesting than the US ones; the ones I have read have included spy dropping missions, document running missions, and some get very detailed.
