So being a long time Silent Hunter fan I am trying to play Silent Hunter V but cant figure out whats causing my loading troubles. Here is whats happening.
The UBI Soft logo comes on and the intro movie plays fine. The Silent Hunter 5 loading screen comes up but the progress bar does not start loading. Then the screen goes black and the following error message is displayed.
Silent Hunter V has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. For more information about this error, click here.
When I click it I get the following:
Error Signature
AppName: sh5.exe
AppVer: 1.2.0.0
ModName: msvcr90.dll
ModVer: 9.0.30729.1
Offset: 00348ec
I can click on another link but it just gives a ton of technical information that doesn't make much sense to me.
Any help or suggestions I can get on this would be greatly appreciated.
This sounds like a hardware issue. What kind of computer you're using? Very hard to tell what's wrong whatsoever, I guess you've already tried reinstalling SH5 and downloaded latest videocard drivers? And you have constant internet connection running? Check that your firewall is not blocking connection to ubiserver.

You should ask that Ubisoft, after all, they are the manufacturer of that defective product, they have received money from you for it and are now committed to help you.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't tried the UBI technical support as I already know how that path will go. I know the people on this forum are the best and brightest and if there is ever a solution to my problem it is here that it will be found. Here is my computer information.
Dell Dimension 8400
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2GHz
1GB RAM
Windows XP
Direct X 9.0c
Radeon X800 XT Video Card 256MB, latest drivers
Sound Blaster live 24 bit sound card, latest drivers
I have a constant high speed internet connection and it connects fine with UBI for verification. I have done multiple clean installs in my attempts to resolve the problem. I know a lot of the basic things to try from SH3 and IV but cant figure this one out. I know my system isn't quite up to par with it but shouldn't it still load and at least try to play? SH4 runs like a dream.

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:
I'm certainly no expert, but it looks like you're trying to run it on a machine that doesn't come close. The requirements are listed on the box to be read before you buy the game.
Is your computer a dual-core machine? I can't tell because I don't know that computer. Core-Duo is one of the requirements listed on the box.
Graphics card minimum 512 MB. You need to upgrade that.
2 GB RAM. You have 1. You need to upgrade that.
Those are the minimum requirements for the game to run at all. For it to run well you need even more.
You should ask that Ubisoft, after all, they are the manufacturer of that defective product, they have received money from you for it and are now committed to help you.
While there are problems with the game, this isn't one of them. I had the same problem with SH3 until I did upgrades. Perhaps you could be a little more helpful.

I do appreciate the input SailorSteve. I didn't buy the game though it was a fathers day present from my wife. And so I do have more important things to do with my limited funds than upgrade my computer. Guess I am back to SH4 then.

Regardless of what others (who probably don't own the game and thus have no way of knowing) might say, the UBI technical support people are actually very good once you get hold of them.
I would recommend that you have a word with them and see if they can help you.
I have to say that Steve is right about Sphinx's machine though - I'm afraid that it looks way too underpowered to run the game.

Welcome aboard Sphinx38m!
Here is a similar problem to yours that was solved, perhaps this will help:

The issue in that case was Visual C# had been installed, which had overwritten that MSVCR90.dll file and caused the problem. The OP had success by uninstalling the 2008 version and installing the 2005 version. Have you (or anyone else) installed anything like that?

I did try installing Visual C#2005 but it didn't fix my problem. Thanks for the suggestion though.

This game is so buggy :damn:
Ctd's and other frequent problems like this one just ruin the gaming
experience quite a bit :-?
