Administration officials say the 1,200 National Guard troops pledged by Obama in May will deploy to the southwest border in less than two weeks,

Even if they were allowed to they couldn't, not with those numbers. I mean, just 72 troops for the entire New Mexico border? :o

They are there to assist with the backlog and paperwork of the Border Patrol. That will have FAR greater effect because the officers of it will now have far more time to get out there and attempt to secure the border.

As corrupt as USA's government ("both sides of the aisle") seems to be on this issue, they'll probably employ the troops with handing out amnesty information packets, and constructing guide signs ("for safety").

Lets see 1200 divided into three shifts spread over approximately 2000 miles so each person would have to watch about 5 miles.
