So please forgive if this is a silly question. I've just installed GWX 3.0 Gold for SHIII - Looks brilliant and I like the more "techy" improvements I've seen so far too.

The trouble seems to be that while I can get sound during the intro movie and music on the menu screen, I don't seem to have any sound FX in the game itself, regardless of what options I have selected.

Is this something that others have encountered and what might I try to correct it?

Did a quick search of the forums but didn't find anything that looked immediately obvious.

Cheers

Welcome aboard :salute:

Have you tried turning the computer volume up?

Check your audio settings in SH3 first.
If they are OK?
Try a re-boot.
If it is still not working?
There may be an issue with some codecs loaded on your system.

Thanks guys. I think it might be a codec thing. I've noticed that it's not that there's NO sound, but there's no engine sound from my sub, and regardless of what I do with the sound options from the main menu, all the other sound fx are very muffled most of the time, apart from the odd "outburst" when a telegraph bell sound, or a crew member's acknowledgment of an order will come back at normal (loud and clear) volume.

I'll try playing around with it. To be honest it's not really hampering my enjoyment of the game, so "no biggie" as they say.

Great site btw!

The same thing happened to me a while back. It turned out that my center speaker (5-speaker setup) was messed up. A lot of the sounds in SH3 are out of the center speaker. If you have one, check if it's connected and working properly. If you have 2 speakers, it could be that the game is trying to play sound through the center speaker. I don't know what you could do in that case though.

...Or it could just be a codec...

What sound card do you have or is it on board sound?

If you are receiving sound in certain areas and not others I would look at the configuration of whatever is fitted in/on your pc.

Welcome to you both http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/welcome.gif

It's sorted guys, thanks! Messed around with a few settings and it seems to have got it working normally. I think it may have been the speaker issue that the other new guy mentioned.

So - all ahead flank! :D

:o

Are you trying to give the chief a heart attack?

Best dial it back to one third ahead or else he'll be muttering about your fuel reserves and his precious engines all through dinner. :O:

Glad you're sorted, happy hunting!

Hello again - Another stoopid question due to the fact that pre-SHIII I've never bothered downloading game mods, but GWX 3.0 has converted me!

I've tried downloading the "lifeboats 1.4 mod" which appears as a JSGME file in my Windows Vista "downloads" window, but when I open JSGME it isn't there in the list of Mods available for activation. I can see all the GWX folders and mods, but nothing about lifeboats at all.

Where does the file need to be / what do I need to do in order to make JSGME recognise it alongside all the GWX stuff?

Again, sorry for the thicko question, but you were very helpful last time out on the sound issue.

Download the lifeboats & Debris mod v4:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=628

The file will come packed/zipped unpack it into the MODS folder in your SH3 directory then enable it with JSGME.

JSGME will only open those files that are located in the MODS folder.

Welcome aboard everybody. :salute:

There are no such things as stoopid questions, just wrong threads, and there have been neither here so far. Ask away and the Gods will reply (and I'll stick my oar in to admit I know nothing!) :D

If you are using SH3 Commander, and you screw around with the time compression settings a certain way, it can cause sound problems.

Thanks guys - sorted it. It's now "activated" in JSGME.

Am I right in thinking though that the lifeboats won't appear until I start a new patrol from base?

Really helpful community here - thanks again folks!

As a general rule, mods should be enabled/disabled when you are already in base between patrols - if you do it while you are in the middle of a patrol you may have difficulty loading your saved games since they were created when the game's files were different than they are after adding/removing additional modifications.

From your question it sounds like you may have been in the middle of a patrol when you enabled the mod, so you may have some troubles - won't know until you try, I guess. Good luck!

If you do experience problems, delete the career and start a new one because it is not worth the hassle a corrupted save file in a career can cause.
