View Full Version : Australian Feral Election
Well Dullard has caled the election for August 21. I think it will be close but I hope she and her crap government gets the boot.
Unfortanately Phoney Tony and the LNP Coalition is not much of an alternative.

WTF is a "Feral" election?
You elect who is banished from civilization and released in to the outback to live like the Road Warrior?
You Australians are strange...
'Tis a deliberate bastardisation of "Federal". IMO all politicians are feral animals who should be hunted down and disposed of.:D
And yet it is our strangeness that you find so alluring. ;)

maybe gillard can beat krudd for shortest serving prime minister with 3 weeks in the job and lose the election :D
With the crap Labor's pulled ,lots of people are wishing for the good old days with Howard ,It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a Labor government can stuff up a state or the country when they get in power:damn:

It took the Labour Party 14 years to bugga the economy almost beyond repair here in the UK recently recently.
We now have a Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition government as a result who are having to make such painful remedial decisions/actions that they will soon be even more unpopular than the previous government, therefore opening the door for a quick return for Labour
Funny business politics :nope:

Welcome to the GT forum Sgt Raa. Which feral animal are you betting on to win the election? The Ranga or the Budgie Smuggler?
Well with less than 24 hours till polls open the race is neck and neck:
Newspoll shows after preferences a 50-50 split between the major parties. (http://www.news.com.au/features/federal-election/neck-and-neck-parties-tied-as-campaign-enters-final-hours/story-fn5taogy-1225907549878)

Dammed if we do, Dammed if we don't, Dammed if I'll vote for a minor party!:damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn:
I was hopeful that I was going to be working during the election (driving a train round and round a circle is a lot more fun than watching talking heads on TV for 6 hours), but I got it off, then I got lucky! A friend rang me up and asked if I wanted to go to a trivia night. :yeah:
I'm sure the movies will be packed and the Movie rental shops will be emptied!
As for who wins, Labor by a nose, Hung senate and as you were before.
Who looses, Us!:dead:
I've got a weeks worth of iView watching stored up for Saturday night and Sunday morning. Won't be watching the election coverage if I can avoid it.
Unfortunately BW I think you might be right. It's a mess either way and neitehr party has done anything that says I should vote for them.
My tip; hung lower house and senate, Labor and the Greens join up in an unholy coalition which falls apart within 6 months.
Same end result as yours. We lose.:dead:

Looks like your heading towards a hung parliament - welcome to the club:D
Everyone is prediciting that. 9 seats still in doubt but it's 68 seats each split between the LNP and ALP with 5 seats going to Greens or Independants.
Interestingly the Greens seem to only be holding one seat meaning it will be the independants who get to choose who to dance with to forrm a coalition.
It will be a very interesting next few days with lots of lobbying and promises being made to woo the balance of power owners.

What a joke. :damn: I move to the UK 8 years ago. Become a British citizen at the start of this year and vote for the first time in the British election. Turns out we get a hung parliament and a limp wristed coalition is the result. And then back home in Australia they decide to jump on the same stuffed up bandwagon. Just bloody brilliant. :damn::damn::damn:
On a side note I was reading an article that the Family First Party tried cutting a vote preference deal with the Sex Party. Go figure. :haha::haha:
Do I really want to move back to Oz any time soon? Sydney has been screwed by a complete joke of a state government. Well now the fun starts. There are between 3 and 5 seats which look like going right down to the wire on postal votes. Meanwhile the Bloodnut and the Wingnut hit the phones in an effort to get the support of the 4 independant candidates. Menawhile Labor is starting the backbiting and fingerpointing over who's to blame for their poor result in this poll.

Only one seat still in doubt as two of the remaining close run seats are called. One for Labor one for Liberal the remaining seat looks like going Liberal too, giving them one more seat than Labor and 3 independants and one green holding the balance of power.
http://www.smh.com.au/federal-election/trio-joins-forces-as-gillard-claims-right-to-govern-20100822-13axd.html
Dullard's claim she can bring about a stable government is laughable. Krudd and then Dullard's terms in office were far from cohesive and stable! Then add into the mix the infighting going on about who to blame for their loss of the primary vote and you won;t see stability from her side of the floor for a while to come yet: http://www.smh.com.au/federal-election/many-to-blame--but-only-one-to-protect-20100822-13axi.html
73 seats each with the one outstanding looking like it will fall to the Liberals: http://www.smh.com.au/federal-election/one-seat-to-go-gillard-and-abbott--set-to-claim-73-each-20100823-13dyy.html

Interesting commentary on where Labor lost this election. It started way back when Krudd dropped the ETS and got worse from there. Gittins hit the nail on the head with the electorate losing it's faith in a government which could so quickly dump more than one of it's core platforms for election back in 2007.

Well it tells me one thing....your country doesn't appear to have learned much from the mistakes of your mother country...especially in the political context :hmmm:
Well I blame the politicians for that. Both parties ran such negative campaigns with not one forward thinking idea between them. No I'm not happy that there was not a clear winner one way or the other, but having a hung parliment isn't neccessarily a bad thing. There is probably another week or so before we will know what for the government will take or whether we will be going back to the polls again. I think that result is the one with the least chance of happening unless the independents can't make up their mind as a block.

Regardless of who gets in, give it 6-12 months or continual independent floor cross overs in the lower house and I think the G-G will call a dissolution (with or without the PM's recommendation) and we'll be back to the polls.
Either that or the dynamics of suddenly high profile independents in the lower house coupled with Nick and Stevie in the upper house will ensure a double dissolution by end 2011, although potentially less likely as doesn't Stevie's tenure end next July? I can't remember atm what the upper house makeup will be come July next year.

Well, for JG to win now, one of the conditions of the independents is that she will stick it out for the full 3 year term. I would therefore doubt that the knives would come out within the party before then, because that would certainly result in dissolution.
I'm also unsure of any likely successor who would seize the opportunity for an ALP leadership coup should the G-G dissolve parliament before then.
So I would anticipate that JG will remain the leader of the ALP for a few years yet...will she remain PM? Well, let's just see what happens in the next week first. ;)

IIRC its 34 Liberals, 31 Labour, 9 Greens (Balance of power and more likely to vote with Labour than Liberal and 2 Other/Independent in the Senate. I think the triggers for dissolution may come about if enough get together and decide to block supply, but that will always depend on what is being put through them. My gut says nothing "unpopular" will be attempted by either party in the next 3 years unless they figure they can swing the numbers.

So does anyone think this thing will work out or should a new election be called?
At this stage everyone seems to be working to avoid having to go back to the polls, but who knows. The main difference between this situation and the one in the UK is that it is not a balance of power party but a group of 4 very indenpendent candidates who will all make up their own minds as to who to go with. If they are split then it will be up to the GG to make a call as to whether or not to call a new election.

There are three independents who have been in the lower house for many years (The Mad Katter is one of them) and have kind of stood together. There is another independent who has just won a seat (a former intelligence officer who quit his job when the then government ignored his assessment that there were no WMD's in Iraq) and a Green who will side more with bloodnut and a National member who prefers to think of himself as an independent.

The early election could also be called near the end of term. This could change with reforms being talked about. It could become a fixed four year term with no early bail out option.
Labor is more fragile at the moment as it has three independents who will fight for the bush and conservative issues, and a green house of reps and a senate controlled by the greens, who will be environmental based and liberal thinking
At least the speculation is over, but like a night out on the town, we all have to wake up and see who's in bed with who and what will be the fall out.
