hi all
first I want to say hello after a long time, good to see the forum's still alive and kicking.
then I wanted to ask if anybody experienced the following problem:
I cehcked and don't think this is an issue to post in "bugs", I apologize if I'm mistaken about this

I have a DVD retail version of SH5 and tried to install it on my system:

Windows 7 64bit ATI HD 5700 series, 4GB RAM

the game installs ok, but doesn't start (even if patched 1.2)
the error I get is ""C:\Windows\system32\d3dx9_42.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error"

of course it is a directx problem, but windows 7 has directx 11 by default and should have backward compatibility. nonetheless I noticed that the setup program installs directx 9c anyway...

no luck in updating /patching directx, no luck in upgrading ATI drivers and, you guessed? no luck with UBI tech help.

just wondered if anybody met the same issue.

of course other games (even older ones) run perfectly.

thanks all and pls forgive me if I chose the wrong place to post

ciao

Ludwig

Interesting one. I had a problem some time ago that caused problems because of a dodgy Visual Studio install - I think it was the vcredist2008 that was my problem - Perhaps check on that?

Sorry that I can't be of any more help really....

thank you
the VC could actually be a thing to investigate; I've read that SH5 is picky on the VC version and I could have more than one installed..

thanks again

What I did was uninstall VC completely, and then installed 2005 - checked if it worked, the re-installed 2008 - and it worked. I think something got overwritten wrongly when I installed Vis Studio 08 or something.

I noted that when I installed on Win7 Ultimate (x64) that the installer didn't automatically run the VC 2008 redist installer, nor the DirectX updater. I had to run them manually. Once I did so, I no longer had the problem that the OP did.

hello

thanks everybody for the advices;

after trying to mess with visual C++ redist in various versions and directx as well, I gave up and installed windows 7 32 bit in place of the 64 bit.

sh5 then ran smoothly at the first try...

maybe I'll play sometimes with 32 bit and then try again to install it on 64..

thank you
