USS Springfield, Los Angles class.
December 6th, 2009.
Comander: Lt Cmdr McCrea.
Mission: Sea Trials.
Station: Pearl Harbor.

"Take her to periscope depth XO." McCrea said as the Springfield sailed due west, towards Wake Island.

As the air hissed out, sonar man Jonesey noticed a contact. "Con, sonar. I have one contact, bearing 090, range 350 miles out."

McCrea walked to the sonar room. "Jonesey, what'ch got?" McCrea stood at the door while the sonar technition did his best.

"Sir, the one contact has just turned into a whole fleet. I count 28 ships. Give me a minute sir." Jonesey focused on his consol as the comander watched in silence.

After a few minutes, Jonesey looked up, and said, "Sir, i think we have just stumbled apon a Japanese task force. The same one that attacked Pearl Harbor. I count 6 carriers,2 battle ships, three cruiseres, and 8 tankers."

The comander droped his mug. "Jonsey, tell me your jokeing. That was in '41! This is 2009!"

"Sir i wish i was joking, but im not." Jonsey did multiple checks of the sonar while McCrea went back to the con.

Looking around, the comander didnt understand. He had to be dreaming, right? 'This is no dream.' he thought to himself as he mad his decition. "XO, bring us to flank speed and dive to 250 feet."

The XO, not understanding the order, gave it anyways, and walked over to the captain. "Sir, whats the course?" The skipper pointed to the map.

"Right there, and as soon as we get into position, call the crew to battle stations." The XO went to give the course, and the skipper went back to the sonar station, only to confirm the Japenese task force.

So, what do you guys think? For the sake of the story, please dont yell about the fact that Springfield is the "newest" Los Angles class. Coments and writeing tips are welcome!

Okay.

My ideas are

A) Springfield moves into position, fires her four torps, and has to dive deep from oncomeing destoryers.

B)Fires her four torps, dosent get picked up by destroyers, and continues to fire till the Japanese are sunk.

C) Take a hint from The Final Countdown and does nothing whatsoever...

Or D) Radio's Pearl Harbor, informs them of the oncomeing raid, and sinks only one carrier and a battleship.

i would think there would be mass confusion among your officers in control let alone the rest of the boat. Someone would demand positive visual identification of the Jap fleet then all hell would break loose in the control room, arguments over what should be done and just what was going on. you would probably be forced to wait until the attack commenced to make your counter attack. Warn pearl. They might believe you but then again would you have the radio freq? and the Japs would have to hear it too you dont have the coding equipment carried at the time. a lot has changed since 41. I bet a Diesel boat crew would take weeks to sort out how to just manage a 688i

I like where this is going though, keep it up.:DL

USS Springfield

McCrea has been watching Jonsey work the sonar for the last fifteen minutes. "Jonsey, report only to me any new contacts. Im going to the con."

"Aye aye sir!" Mumbled Jonsey as he wrote something down on a log book.

As he entered the con, the Commander looked around, and told the XO "Call all officers to the the officer's room." He turned and walked down the corridor to the officer's room. and sat as he waited for his men to join him.

Fifteen minutes later, all 12 officers were there. McCrea stood, and spoke, "Men, we have a problem. We are nolonger in the year 2009." The officers looked puzzeld. "No, we are in the year 1941. In aproxamatly 15 hours, the Japanese fleet will launch its attack on Pearl. I have put us on a course to intercept the Japs." The officeres all stood, stareing at the captain. Fear, confustion, and anger. The XO was the next to speak.

"Alright, men, now, we have to decide on a course of action. Do we attack the Japanese, warn Pearl, or do nothing?" He paused to let his words sink in. Then, "What we do next can change the course of history."

The captain spoek again. "If we attack and sink the fleet, America might never enter the war." The officers looked at him, realizeing what could happen. "Now, we dont know that for sure though. Japan might declar war on the US because they would think that we had advance knowlage and sent a pack of subs. Or they might not." He sat back down to let the next person speak.

"Captain, if we inform Pearl, they might not beleive us." The officer sat back down.

"Men, write down what you think we should do. Put it in this box," He reached under the table and pulled out a box, "...And bring it to the sonar station." With that, the captain left the room, and the officers began to argue amongst themselves, trying to get others to see their veiw on the situation.

Captain Ivanovich leaned in the doorway of the sonar room. "What do you mean you cannot identify the task force?"
The Submarine was just recovering power from the energy wave.
"I'm telling you i have never heard anything like those ships Keptan. Steam and diesel power plants... that is all i can tell you about them."

"what about the American submarine?"
"They appear to have lost power for a moment too but now there on an intercept course with the task force, loud reactor noises, I dont think they know of our presence."

Ivanovich turned and yelled into the control room.

I think I would let the attack happen on Pearl Harbor, but sink the entire Japanese task force as they return to Japan. That way the Americans would join the war, but sinking the Jap fleet should shorten it. Then again it could cause more casualties if the US forces reached Japan early and didn't have the A-bomb yet.:hmmm:

"This is December 1941 Uri... Do you realize that we have no home to return to? The Red Banner fleet is nothing more than a few Diesel submarines and Joseph Stallen runs our Rodina... No Uri, we cannot return to Russia, Too much is different." Said The captain.

"What should we do sir?," asked Uri.
Captain Ivanovich leaned forward with his elbows on the table and addressed all his officers. "We are pacing American comrades at twenty eight as we speak. They ether haven't detected us yet or, as i suspect, are more concerned with the Japanese task force at the moment to pay attention to there baffles. At 5,000 yards we shall ping her."

"That will broadcast our presence to them!" exclaimed an ensign.
"We do not have the luxury of staying out of this fight," said the captain.
"Whatever has happened to us has also happend to the American, therefor we are in this together. Our original mission was to make contact with the new 688 and probe her capability's.... a war game with her but they are not our enemy, that has not changed.Dismissed."

USS Springfield

Jonsey, still watching the Japanese fleet did a full sound check. With the boat going 30 knots, he didnt notice the Russian sub closing behind him. "Con, sonar. No new contacts. Suggesting we do a full turn to get a readig on our suroundings."

McCrea, still waiting for the votes of his officers, thought about it for a moment, then picked up the phone. "Sonar, what is the speed of the Jap fleet?"

"17 knots sir!"

Turning the phone from Sonar to speaker phone, the captain said to the crew, "Men, we are in the year 1941. In 20 hours aproxamately, Pearl Harbor will be attacked by the Japanese. We are on an intercept course with them. In ten minutes, we will preform a double Crazy Ivan. Secure all lose items." As soon as he finished, the XO gave him the box. Leaveing the con, McCrea went back to the Officer's room. He opened it, and picked up the first.

"Attack and sink."

The second: "Defend America to the best of our abilitys." The third and fourth were the same. The fifth read, "Do nothing." The sixth, seventh, and eighth read the same as the second. With six of twelve the same, McCrea didnt even read the rest.

McCrea tossed the scraps of paper, and put the box away, thinking "In only a few ours, we will change the course of History."

Also, as i posted in my first post, i put the Springfield on 'flank' speed. Not sure how 18 knots will catch that..Might want to edit the last post?...

"Con, sonar! American target rapidly changing aspect!," blared the overhead in the control room. Ivanovich nearly spit out his tea, instead he lept from his seat. "He's clearing his baffles! All back full! Sonar, ping the target!"

The Kilo's six bladed screw stopped, and then began knifing through the water the opposite direction as the men inside rushed to their battlestations. A high frequency ping was blasted out from the forward sonar array in the direction of the 688i class boat now 8,000 yards ahead. The Kilo was shuddering under the strain of her powerplant in reverse.
"Shall we arm our torpedos keptan?" asked the XO.
" NO! we'll do no such thing. They know were here now and we will not provoke them. Go to sonar and rig up a gurtrude... and Nickoli?"

The bang of the sonar ping on the Springfield's hull reverberated the lenght of the boat. "XO! What the hell was that?" Shouted McCrea as the the boat listed in its high speed turn.

"Con, Sonar! Russian Kilo class submarine, 8,500 yards to the stern!" Yelled Jonsey.

The XO turned to the captain. "Sir, recommend emergancy stop."

"Emergancy stop, bring us to periscope depth! Flood forward tubes one and four!" Ordered Lt. Comander McCrea. USS Springfield's propeller came to a complete stop aw the dive plane's turned surfacewise. "Rudder amidships! Whats are heading?"

The XO looked at the compass. "096 sir. Passing 100."

"Con, sonar, im picking something up... Its on the Gertrude!" Jonsey reported.

Picking up the Gertrude, McCrea spoke through it, "This is the USS Springfield. I am Lt. Commander Austin McCrea. Russian submarine, what are your intentions?"

Also, were is the Kilo mod? And any other mod that would help with it being a Russian sub mod be?

The captain pluged a head set into a console. "con sonar there tubes are flooding!" Ivanovich nodded and waved off a concerned look from the XO. Over the Gertrude he heard:

"This is the USS Springfield. I am Lt. Commander Austin McCrea. Russian submarine, what are your intentions?"

"Springfield, I am Kilo 529. Commander Mekile Ivanovich speaking. We are no match for you Commander nor are we interested in hostilities. Something has happened to our vessels... and it does not appear we are when or where we once were. The task Force out there proves that. Unless my sonar is complete junk there are nearly 30 or more world war two era IJN ships closing our position. We do not understand what is happening here Springfield but myself, my officers and men wish to disregard nationality and Allie with you. We are in this together no? what are your intentions?"

Stunned by the Russian declaration, McCrea spoke back, "I am sorry, i did not catch your name. But my current intentions are to protect the United States of America. Past, Present and Future. As soon as we are within range, i intend to sink the Japanese fleet." As he said this, the control room buzzed with murmurs for only a moment until the captain gave them a look. Off the phone, "XO, keep torpedo tubes 1 and 4 flooded, im not sure what this ruskie plans, or if he is trustworthy, but he is right, we are in it together.

"Con, sonar, the Russian has not flooded his torpedo tubes." Jonsey reported. "Japanese fleet is slowing to 10 knots."

"Thank you Jonsey." Turning back to the Gertrude, McCrea spoke to the Russian, "Russian Kilo, i propose we meet, face to face. I am comeing to periscope depth now, and suggest we surface and plot this out together." McCrea paused to wait for the Russian response...

"I am Commander Mekile Ivanovich, Captain of the Kilo 529.." Off mike Ivanovich turned to the command crew who were all watching silently. The control room was packed with men as few could stand remaining at there posts."Their commander wishes us to surface and rendezvous," he said. This set off a chain of whispers throughout the sub. Some sailors were grinning excitedly, some had looks of doubt but the captain was confident.

"Commander McCrea," Ivanovich said into the mike. "We will surface. Take heed that we are armed with eight SA-N-10 surface to air missiles. You may tie along side us but we will destroy any aircraft that come within our range without warning. As of now my ship is at Battlestations anti-aircraft."

An alarm klaxon sounded as Ivanovich hung up the mike and ordered his kilo to surface. The Kilo broke the surface 90 seconds later and within a minute the captain was on the bridge with his XO and lieutenant Vostov.
"where are they?" asked the XO as he scanned the empty sea with his binoculars. "they'll be here" said the captain. "they just think were not being sincere. Order the diesel engines to be started set the battery to charge." "Aye sir!"
"Set revolutions for six knots. Come to port, course 100"

A few moments later they spotted the bow of the USS Springfield breaching the surface off to starboard.

"Con, Sonar. Russian Kilo has just broke the surface!" Jonsey reported.

"XO raise the scope." McCrea said as the Springfield cape to periscope depth. A few seconds later, the scope was ready and he looked through it. "XO, decrease speed to 5 knots."

"Aye aye! Decrease speed to five knots." Repeated the XO as the crew on the entire sub waited axnxtiously to meet the Russian sailors.

As he spun the scope to port, McCrea looked to the XO. "They are on our port bow. Blow balast." Air hissed into the balast tanks and the sub began to rise. "Keep torpedo tubes one and four flooded, but closed."

A minute later, USS Springfield broke the surface 500 yards away from the Russian sub. As it was his idea, the Captain, the Wepons officer, Jonsey, and two other enlisted were to go to the Russian sub. As the inflatabe motor boat was being preped, the XO came to the Commander. "Sir, take this with you." handing him an M9.

"While i am gone, your in charge." McCrea said as he boarded the raft. Five minutes later, the boarding party of five reached the Kilo. " Commander Mekile Ivanovich! Permission to come aboard?"

Staying at periscope depth, Admiral 8Q listens to these odd sonar contacts. Curious, he turns his old sub to face them.

"Sir contact, humming" the sonar man reports.

"They seem to be following a contact, should we follow sir?"

8Q listens on the hydrophones for a bit. Then decides to pursue this target at flank speed on the surface. All seems good but then a splash shows up on the port side!

"Emergency dive!!!" 8Q yells, while swinging the wheel around to starboard.

"permitted!" Ivanovich yelled back at the Zodiac as two boatsmen tossed the Americans lines to tie to. Mekile and Nickoli were standing on the fordeck beside an open entrance to the sail. Nickoli was waring a sidearm but the captain had refused taking one himself. Atop the sail two sailors armed with shoulder launched SA-N-10 missiles stood watch for aircraft. Mekile and Nickoli made there way forward to help the Commander and his men aboard. "Welcome aboard Commander McCrea" Mekile said. "I am Commander Mekile Ivanovich and this is my executive officer Lieutenant Nickoli Surgatov."

Commander McCrea introduced himself and his men in turn; they shook hands.
Suddenly a petty officer came dashing from the hatch on the side of the sail yelling frantically in Russian. In english Mekile said "Commander, our radar has picked up a faint signal, possibly another submarine bearing 199 of our position. It was moving at 20 knots but now he has lost the contact. No doubt your ship has also detected the same. I am inclined to follow your suggestions but i am tempted dive my boat. "

"If your submarine were an Alpha what we have just done would have been a text book act of allied fire support. My solution is set on the unidentified and not the Springfield."
"How can you blame them?" Asked McCrea. "indeed"
"Perhaps now is time i should make our intentions clear to you commander McCrea. We do not desire to alter the history the world any more than we have already. However... You are the only allie that we have it seems, and we do not leave out comrades to go into battle alone."

PING PING PING! "Sonar, Con!" Yelled the XO. "Sonar! Awnser me!" he repeated. Still no reply. Turning to the COB, "COB, go see Adams and see what the hell is going on!"

"Whats wrong with him?" asked the XO as the medics began to check the sailor over.

"Dunno yet sir. If he was listening to the sonar, he may be deaf." Reported the first medic. They pulled out a cot and put the wounded sailor on it.

"Periscope depth!" Rang a sailor in the Con. The XO left as the two medics were puting the final straps on. The XO checked the scope, and found the Kilo breaking the surface.

"All stop, blow tanks!"

"All stop, blow tanks! Aye!" Air again hissed out as the Springfield surfaced. As he waited for the water to clear the bridge, the XO spoke to the COB in a room. "If they even attempt to flood their tubes again, sink them."

"But the captain.." protested the COB, but was cut off.

"I don't care if the president was on there, they are a currently hostile target in the beginning stages of WWII." The XO looked out the room to make sure no one was listening. He didn't want anyone to hear what he just said.

"Sir, I cannot carry out that order." The Chief left the room. Lt. Pair (XO) followed him to the con, but climbed the ladder when he got there. As he turned to look at the Kilo, the heavy seas washed waves a good distance up the sail. Useing the bino's, he spotted the Sail of the Kilo with a morse lamp.

"Get me someone who knows morse!" He shouted down the ladder. Fifteen seconds later a seaman 2nd class came up.

Belove swung the signal lamp in the direction McCrea had pointed. Ivanovich passed McCrea a pare of light amplified Binoculars. "signal this.."
Ivanovich yelled to Belove.

Seaman 2nd class Woods started scribbling down letters on a simi-soaked notepad as the Kilo flashed in the distance. The wind was picking up and the sky was overcast. The XO waited impatiently for several minutes as Woods translated. "here it goes sir" Woods finaly said. "lets have it!"

With the sea state being what it was, the XO found it unlikely that a Zodiac could make the distance twice between the two subs. "Seaman Woods, send 'Sea state too rough. Keep our men there. Set depth 100 feet, speed 20 Knots. Stay paralel to us." Woods began to send the message while the XO slid down the ladder.

"Set depth 75 feet, speed 20 knots!" Ordered the XO once he was in the Con. The order was repeated as he went back up. "Woods!" He now shouted, the wind speed picking up, "Send tell them that Seaman Adams is wounded. The sonar pings overloaded the sonar and he was listening at the time." The water was half way up the sail as the two went down the hatch and it was closed.

A mile away the WWII submarine observed the two strange ships as they exchanged messages and dove.

"I'm not sure. They are communicating in English, but..." 8Q turned towards the radio room, "McConnell, do you know what 'Gertrude' or EMP is?"

McConnell frantically began flipping through the code books, "No Sir, but I'm on it!"

"Let me know if you find anything. In the meantime..." 8Q began to continue.

"Captain! Er, sorry, Admiral! Sonar man William is passed out on the deck! There is blood coming from his ears!"

"What happened?" 8Q asked.

"He must have heard a loud noise on the hydrophones!"

"Petty Officer, take him to quarters and have the medic check him out. Lieutenant Lamberth, take sonar station." 8Q went back to the periscope. Cautiously raising it again, 8Q could barely make out the starboard line of the Japanese task force approaching. A carrier came into view covered by at least three destroyers. Passing across the Nautilus's bow at 600 yards, one salvo would probably cripple or destroy her.

"Sir, shall we attack?" the XO questioned.

"Negative. We are not at war with the Japanese and do not have the authority to attack neutrals. Besides, we don't want to be the instigators of war do we now Steve?" Admiral 8Q rubbed his chin again then decided, "When the fleet passes us by, we will surface the boat and begin repairs on our radio antenna."

"What about those other strange contacts?" XO, Steve Jonson asked.

"Well I think they may be friendlies. Probably a couple of the newer submarines. We will make contact and challenge them, if they stick around..."...

With the Japanese fleet just on the horison, the XO didn't want any more sonar pings. Chances are they Japs would pick them up. "Were is the Submarine?" Asked the XO as he staired at a chart.

"Port side, close abord!" Someone replied to him. Lt. Pair (XO again, dunno if i said it) drew a line on the chart.

A minute later, in the aft crew compartmant, a pipe burst. The wounded sailor was in the room with the two medics, no one else. One of the medics ran to an intercom. "Con, we have flooding in the aft crew compartment!" he shouted through, but in the con, only "Con, .... flooding in... crew comp...." was heard.

Lt. Pair ordered a runner to both crew compartments, and as they came back, before either said anything, he ordered the Damage control team to the aft compartment. "All stop, switch propulstion to the bateries! Shut down the reactor! Ahead 1/3rd!" The low humm of the reactor faded as it was shut down.

"Get a clog on that pipe!" Ordered someone in the crew compartment. Water was knee deep as ten crewmen scrambeld around with water spraying in. Since the first pipe blew, two more bust. The XO entered the room and was shocked at how fast water was comeing in.

"Comander!" Yelled the head repair man, trieing to be heard. The XO looked at him. "We need to surace to get the pump working! Mush more of this and we lose the compartment!"

"Not possible! The Japanese fleet is about 10, 12 miles away! We surface and we will be spotted!" The Repair man said a few words, and the XO left the room. In the Con, everyone looked at him, wondering waht they would do. "Get me the gertrude! Even if the Russians cant use theirs, they can still pick it up." The Springfield was now begining to slow from the water. "We are takeing on water. Multiple pipes burst in an aft compartment. We will not abandon ship."

The water, now waist deep, was still comeing in from two pipes. One of the pipe had been cloged. "Here, use this!" Someone shouted. :We have to abandon!" another yelled. "No way in hell am i dieing on a goddamn submarie! I hate them!" shouted a third sailor. Before the water had gotten more then chest deep, one more pipe was cloged and the third was slowed down to a slow leak.

I wrote this three times. Once in the Con, once in the torpedo room, and finaly here.

"jesus..." muttered one of the American sailors. The Kilo was trailing alongside and slightly behind the Springfield at 20 knots. "Your man Jonsey has confirmed their transmition and he can hear flooding inside." Said Nikoli (The XO) The Control room was quiet. Ivanovich had translated what was going on for his crew to digest. "con, sonar, The Springfield is slowing to one third and i no longer hear her reactor."
"Match speed, ahead one third. what's out battery state?" Ivanovich asked.
"Set revolutions for ten knots." ordered the COB. "Kapten, battery level showing 71% power."
"Very well Chief. ETA on repairs?"
"maybe eight hours total keptan."
"What about the Gertrude?"
"Ready now Keptan." Said Engineer Palo as he entered the Con from aft.
The XO had been translating all this to Commander McCrea.
Ivanovich turned to McCrea. "Commander the Gertrude is functioning. You may speak with your ship. My Engineers and damage control department are at your disposal. I offer you anything i can give you."
"Thank you sir." McCrea said as he made his way to the Control room sonar station.

Picking up the gertrude, McCrea spoke through it. "USS Springfield, this is Lt. Cmdr McCrea! Lt. Pair, are you there?"

"This is Lt. Pair. Good to hear from you captain!" The XO spoke calmly in the tense situation. The Springfield had taken on so much water that the stern was sinking slowly. The dive plains were set so that the slow speed would keep the at an even depth.

"Pair, what is the situation? We heard you takeing on water, what happend?" The captain looked aroudn the Con, listening to the Russians.

"Water 4 foot in aft crew compartment. I shut down the reactor to be safe." Men were running stern with pipes and tools to start the pumping. "Sir, what is the Russian's intent now?"

"They would rather not change history, but will do the same as us. I plan to wait till the first wave of japanese bombers takes off, then sink them."

"Alright, I am going to go help with reapairs now. Sir..." He paused.

"What is it Pair?" asked the Captain as the Russian captain came up to him.

"Do you have the item i gave you?"

"No, i left it in the Zodiac. There was no need for it. Go help them, we're safe." The captain put the Gertrude down, gave Jonsey a pat on the back, and went to confer with the Russian officers.

Lt. Pair left the Gertrude, and went to the aft crew compartment. The crew with the pump gear were waiting for the OK to open the hatch. A minute later, someone said to stand back, and opend the door. Water spilled out, but not much. The crew began to set the pump up. "Chief!" the XO called to the head repair man, "I wand a damage report in ten minutes, i need some bloody coffey." With that, the XO made his way forward to the officers mess. He got his drink and returned to the Con.

Commander McCrea recounted his XO's report to Ivanovich and his senior officers. For some reason the Russians looked as if they had steeled themselves for something, as if a resolve had been reached. Before McCrea began to worry though Ivanovich spoke. "My crew and I have reached a final decision in the matter of your plan." McCrea's stomach sank but Ivanovich continued. "We will carry out the attack" This he repeated in Russian and his officers nodded in union to McCrea. "Kilo 529 possess 18, 53-65 torpedos that rival your own, and we have a dozen anti-ship mines. That's not much in comparison to your Springfield but it IS enough to take down several of the heavies out there."
With that, the Russian commander and his men walked out of the Con toward the officers mess.

USS Springfield was now deflooded. The repair team had done its job and were now taking a much needed break. "Begin start up of the main reactor!" Ordered the XO. The sub had been doing five knots since the flooding started, and the Japanese fleet were no longer visible. The reactor began to hum as water turned to steam inside it. "Shut down baterie backup, set speed 20 knots."

In the medical bay, the wounded sailor came to. "Wha...Where..." He mumbled. A medic rushed to him.

"You're fine sailor, everything is alright." The sonar tech looked blankly at the medic, but didn't say a word. He was probably deaf. The Medic reported this to Lt. Pair.

Lt. Cmdr McCrea followed the officers into the mess, and was given a plate of food. It looked like a bird, but he couldnt name it. As he ate, an alarm blaired, and everyone ran to the con. Jonsey stood, and reported, "Springfield is now going twentie knots, but the submarine we noticed earliar, its about 100 yards to our port. If he couldn't hear us, he sure as hell can now!"

Sorry boys! Real life is a time consuming bee-atch...:03:

"Ahead Flank!" Admiral 8Q yelled, "Give her all that she can handle!"

The Nautilus began to pick up speed as it breached the surface with a loud splash. The diesels stuttered, then kicked in as the boat turned towards the fading Japanese fleet.

The acting sonar man, Lt. Lamberth cried out, "Sir! That strange noise has begun again, very close off our starboard!"

"Man the deck guns and begin zig-zag maneuvers. Send our codded signals by lamp in thier dirrection. Let's see who's out there." 8Q climbed up the ladder from the control room, up through the conning tower to the bridge.

The deck gun crew raced up and out to the two 6 inch guns. High explosives were quickly loaded and pointing in the direction of the hydrophone contact.

Steve Johnson, the XO's voice blared out from the voice pipe, "The Chief engineer has managed to increase our speed by about two knots, the engines can not hold this out for more than a few hours!"

Splashing through the rugged water, the old submarine left a churning wake. The gunners dressed in oilskins hung on with every ounce of strength they had at the guns.

William woke up in the crew quarters. Everything seemed muffled as he tried to listen. He ripped off a piece of the blanket from the bed he was laying on, twisted it up and cleaned out his ears. There was still a high pitch ringing but he wanted to get back to duty.

"Will, you're not ready!" the medic exclaimed while stirring a pot of creamed corn on the stove.

"I'll decide if I'm ready or not! Out of my way cook!" William walked through the control room, saluted the XO, then climbed up to the conning tower before anyone could react. He roughly saluted Lt. Lamberth then took the headphones from his head.

"Sorry Sir, no offense but I have more experience at this that you do..." William squinted his eyes and spun the dial around.

"No worries, carry on sailor." Lamberth said as he began to climb up to the bridge. He didn't like the sonar station anyways.

"What are you doing here?" Lowering his binoculars, 8Q asked Lamberth as he crawled up out of the hatch.

"William is better now, and took over the hydrophones, Sir." Lamberth's cheeks turned red from embarrassment, but in the fading light no one noticed.

"Admiral!!! I think a submarine is following us, one hundred yards or so off the starboard aft! Should I ping them Sir?" William excitedly yelled up to the bridge.

"Wait, I think they may be friendly or they would have attacked us already. Continue with the signal lamp." 8Q stated.

The old Admiral, officers and crew waited to see what would happen next...:hmmm:

"Bring me the Gertrude!" Ordered Lt. Pair. As soon as the reactor went into flank speed, it automaticaly shut off. Fortunatly no radiation leak was observed. Through the Gertrude, he spoke, "Captain, we need you back here. We are preparing to attack the Japanese. The Reactor is off line. Have the Russians surface, we will send the other Zodiac for you."

"Captain." Jonsey started.

"Yes?"

"Yes?" Both skippers thought he was talking to them.

"Uh, sorry, Captain...Ivanovich, i think,..I meant my Captain." McCrea walked over the the Sonar Tech as the russian skipper turned and spoke with his XO. Looking up at the Lt. Cmdr, Jonsey spoke, "Sir, Springfield had a reactor failure, but is preparing to attack the Task Force. They want us back there." Jonsey wispered the part about the Reactor. While it was a friendly sub, it didnt make it an American sub.

The captain stood in silence for a moment as Jonsey waited for his awnser. "Tell them to surface ASAP...Were is that WWII sub?" McCrea stood as Jonsey did a check. "Ah, dont worry, he cant catch us." The captain left the sonar tech to talk to the Russian. As he got there, the Russian seemed to know what he was going to say.

"We will be surfaceing so you can go home in a moment. I have to go...Releive my self for a moment, so, good bye, Comrad." The Russian saluted the American, who saluted back.

"East meets West, sir." McCrea had been thinking of that quote since he boarded the Russian sub. 'Damnd Red October' he thought in silence as the sub surface. The Russian either did not understand it, or didn't want to respond to it.

A Zodiac quickly scooped up the American crew, and returned to the Springfield, and as soon as the Zodiac reached the hull, the lookout spoted the other American submarine, guns bearing, just 100 yards away.

"Buckaroos...." The captain muttered. "Sir?" Asked the XO.
"Their commander is like the American in our favorite hollywood movie."
Nickoli laughed as a good deal of spray washed up the sail. "It would seem so."
"I hope they've made it. I can't see a thing. Lookouts below! Dive the boat. Make your depth 100 meters. Man battlestations torpedo!"

The lookouts scrambled below deck as the diving alarm blared.
Once in the control room Nickoli (the XO) ordered: "ten degrees down bubble. Make our depth one zero zero meters. Man battlestations torpedo!"

A second klaxon rang through the Russian submarine and the sailors rushed to their stations.
"One MC!"
"One MC sir."
"This is your kapten. 529 will join in the attack with our American allies. Weapons, make sure your target. We cannot Allow our torpedos to come around on us OR our allies. Make ready, that is all."
Ivanovich hung up the mike.

UPDATE: I do apologize for like...disapering off the face of the forum for a while. But monday i get my laptop, SH3, and SH4. Then, i will start the next phase of the story. I'm also debating weather i will end it or not. I may turn it into an alternate WWII (cliche much?) with the Springfield staying in the time era. Nothing is set in stone until monday, when i plan it, tuesday i will be reading Mockingjay, the final part of "The Hunger Games" trilogy. Check it out if you can. And, unless its like a 500-600 page book, i will begin to update this again.

Again, sorry for the long delay, and i hope you enjoy what i may or may not have planned.

Once more i have to appologize, as i had about a three to four page chapter written out, but, as the fates have it, my laptop recived a virus and the harddrive got whiped. So, here is the ****-poor excuse of what happend. I will try to redo the three/four page vertion, but,...I dunno what ill do next with this.
December 7th, 1941.
5:55 A.M. Local standard time.
USS Springfield, SSN/B 761
North of Oahu
Sonar man Jonsey had been waiting for the sounds of the Japanese taskforce’s engines to speed up, and now, they were. “Con, Sonar! Jap taskforce picking up speed.” He reported to the Con, and imidialtly afterwards, battle station klaxons were going off, and men were rushing about.
6:00 A.M.
Jonsey picked up a sentence in Japanese, and translated it. “Con, Sonar, I intercepted a Japanese transmission. ‘Climb Mount Niitaka.’ The Japs are about to launch!” In the Con, Lt. Commander Austin McCrea ordered the periscope raised. The nearest enemy warship was about a half mile away, and opening. As he watched the first of the two hundred or so aircraft take off, he waited.
“Sir, are we going to attack?” asked the XO Lt. Pair. The captain didn’t move, but stayed glued to the scope.
“I’m watching what no American has ever witnessed. I wonder if the Russian is filming this?” spoke the captain, but it was to no one. “We wait till the Japanese begin to prepare the second wave and then we attack. Plot the solutions for the four carriers, and then reload and fire on the last two! ” Ten minutes later, the second wave of Japanese planes are being prepared. “Fire torpedos’ 1 through 4!” Ordered the commander. The torpedoes’ hissed as they left the tubes, and sped towards the Japanese. Just as the first airplane was taking off, all four torpedoes’ hit the mark, with the Russian torpedoes’ hitting various cruisers and support ships.
“Con sonar! Japanese pinging!” Warned Sonarman Jonsey. The Japanese warships began to speed up, and head in the direction of the two submarines.
“Con, Torpedo room, we are ready to fire again!” With that, two more torpedos rush for the Japanese flattops.

Would you like me to continue the role of the Kilo? if so i'll need some time to think it out. Im glad to see you haven't deep sixed the story:DL
It would add to the random unpredictability but would be harder for you to steer the story the way you intend. but im still on board if you want.

Or D) Radio's Pearl Harbor, informs them of the oncoming raid, and sinks only one carrier and a battleship.
Are you joking? that one sub could take out a single task force with a flick of the wrist. one tactical nuclear missile and bye bye. Plus, they wouldnt be this close and detecting it JUST now.

This entire story is quite flawed. QUITE flawed. if your using a Nuclear sub, then game over. one modern nuke sub has more firepower then ALL bombs dropped in the entire War. including, you guessed it! NUKES. they couldve picked this fleet up from mars. just about one of the hardest things to do in modern naval warfare is detecting a nuclear sub. the nuke sub couldve been sitting on the Aircraft Carriers deck and they wouldntve seen it. i suggest you redo this whole get-up. instead of making it a nuclear sub, how about making it a balao class from the near future. in fact that sounds extremely interesting. you could research a balalo class that met its maker and make it so that right before they met their end, they vanished in a wormhole and reappeared there. thats cool. but continuing with nuclear subs is totally out of whack. the japs never even wouldve caught a glimpse of the sub on any detection equipment. so again i suggest you change this, if your actually thinking about publishing a book.

and also your characters seem so casual about the fact they jumped 75 years into the past and landed next to a jap task force responsible for pearl harbor. plus, they also wouldtve known that they were japs or hat knid of warships or pretty much anything about them. Its alright for a story that doesnt go into a book, but i am 100% certain if this book is somehow accepted by a publisher and put on the market that it wont sell 1 copy. HOWEVER the basic idea is fun and exciting. and if this is just a basic outline, then if you change some stuff itll be pretty interesting.

this is all constructive criticism, just so you know. Just giving some advice, so dont take it the wrong way. good luck.
