View Full Version : GWX 3.0 Fails to Load

Brag

I have downloaded GWX3.0 from Jimbunaīs Filerfront into a folder on Desktop.

When I get past the wolf howl and the screenies to the screen to begin instalation, I get the following message:

An error occurred while trying to read the source file.
The source file is corrupted.

My OS is Win7, I had no problem loading GWX three weeks ago
o:damn:

What to do? What to do?

You're not having much luck lately are you mate, what with your damaged hard drive the other day :x
The fact that you said you managed to install it with no problems the other day is strange indeed, because I WAS going to say Win 7 could be the problem,it all depends on whether SH3 can support (officially that is) the new windows format.
Other than that I cant help anymore,I hope you manage to get it sorted soon,we're missing Balz you know :wah:

Win 7 not a problem, have you checksum'd the files using JScones' wonderful MD5Mate?

http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products-jsmd5m.html (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/software/products-jsmd5m.html)

And you might want to read this thread first...

Good luck, fingers crossed, et al

File corruption is not always due to the source file; it can be due to a fault in the download. You should always run the MD5 if it is available on downloaded files.
I suggest you save the file to a DVD once you have obtained a valid copy. I also suggest you save a copy of the SH3GWX3.0 to DVD and or/an external hard drive so to reinstall all you have to do is copy it to your hard drive.

Whatīs the MD5?

Herr-Berbunch
07-09-10, 09:47 AM
I think (never used it myself) that there is a number that either the host (or the GWX team?) provide and it is a reference to the file content (size?).

You then run the MD5 prog to see if it has the same number once you've downloaded it - it should mean it's all there. Otherwise you've got another mighty download to do

I'm quite certain that somebody will correct us on this if it is in any way wrong - and so they should :D

Did you download from Jim's FileFront page, as the others have had problems recently?

If you aint sorted upon my return I'll put up some form of tut....it is really quite simple.

In the meantime do a registry clean and try to reinstall, I use Regvac:

Put the GWX3.0 exe and the 7 bin files into a folder.

Keep your Notepad file handy with the codes I posted earlier:

Open MD5 like below.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5953/74688856.jpg (http://img132.imageshack.us/i/74688856.jpg/)

Select your first file (in this case the exe) by clicking on the right hand box at the end of the empty area 1, navigate to the exe and click on it to put it in.

Now enter the corresponding file code (copy and paste) from the Notepad file in area 2.

Now click on 3 Compare.

You should get the message in blue at the bottom 'The MD5 sums are the same!

This means the file is okay.

If you get the message in red, two pictures down, you have a faulty file and will need to d/l it again.

Now repeat this process for the remaining 7 files and you will then be in a position of knowing if the problem is either file or computer related.

I checked all the files this morning and they are okay at this end but it is possible you got a corrupted file during the d/l operation.

Right.........follow the steps I posted earlier to fill line one ie: go to the folder you put all 8 files into via the small activation box at the right of the empty step 1 box.

Click on the little box and go to said folder containing the 8 files.

Click on the exe.

Now go to my previous post containg the 8 separate codes and copy and past the exe code into the step 2 empty box....you can't simply hand type the code in, you must copy and paste.

part 3 Compare should now be able to be activated.

Yes...each file has to be checked against the individual code for same numbered file.

The MD5 compares the code you entered with the code contained within the file.

If they correspond the file is good if it doesn't then it's faulty and needs to be d/l again.

Simple as that really.

If all the codes appear okay then at least you know the exe and bins are fine and the problem lies within your computer.

I'm not sure which problem I'd prefer

However, the MD5 seems a bit crazy like checking a file not against the separate numbers but itself.

First you place downloaded file in box 1
then you paste numbers in box 2
Then replace numbers in box 2 with downloaded file to activate button 3

so it appears you are checking DL file against DL file :88)

There are only two operations not three.

Place file 1 in box one and code for file 1 in box 2....that is all.

That should not be possible.

Go back to post #23 and #29

You are on the single file tab?

Click on the small square to the right of the empty section 1.

Point it to wherever you have the 8 files located eg: C\Desktop\GWX files.

Click on it and the folder will open revealing all 8 files, select the exe and click on Open, the blank box in section 1 should now show the location of the file.

Now do the same with the small square to the right of the empty section2.

Point it to wherever you have saved those 8 lines of code or better still, copy the exe code from #29.

Paste it into the empty section 2 box DO NOT TYPE IT IN BY HAND

The part 3 Compare button should now be activated and hopefully will give you the resultant message in blue as posted on #29, if the message is in red then the file is faulty.

Now repeat the process with the rest of the files bin 1 > code for bin 1....bin 2 > code for bin 2, one at a time until you have checked them all.

Balz put his brush down. "You are a struddel-head. Nothing more belic than a frog. Now, take those practice torpedoes back to the warehouse and bring me torpedoes that go kaboom and fit my electro magnetic personality."
