Hello all, tried to run SH4 the other day and got a "could not write licence data" message and title wouldn't run.I've never seen this before. nothing drastic has changed on my system to cause it. I contacted UBI and they said, try all or any of the following: uninstall, remove Ubisoft folder from program files and empty Windows temp file, empty recycle bin. run defrag, run scandisk, turn off virus protection, reinstall with administrator priv. I've done all of these, install 1.0,reboot,install 1.4 reboot and I got 1.4 to run. But when I installed 1.5 I got the error message again. Uninstalled the whole deal, installed each patch with reboots between each all the way to 1.5 and... you know the rest.I have not heard back from UBI since on my subsequent requests. Any ideas? I have run SH4 1.5 since it was available and have never had any problems.I bought the original title and the 1.5 download from UBI and have an account there so they know I did not steal these. Any help would be appreciated!

Only thing i can think of is if you are using vista or win7 try installing the game to the C: drive instead of C:Program Files. A "Feature" of these operating systems sometimes prevents programs from writing data to the Program Files Folder.

Thanks, I'll try that, that's how I installed SH3 GWX.Another thing i thought of,on the successful install of 1.4 I was never asked to provide a licence key... makes me wonder if I am not really getting rid of all of UBI's stuff from the original installation. Also,I have not been installing Gameshadow when that option comes up,I was never sure if it was a Starforce type of thing, maybe it is necessary? The SH5 debacle has made me a little "Big Brother" wary!

Well that didn't work, different location in my Win7 or Gameshadow. This title ran great a month ago,UBI has become totally unresponsive.Googling the could not write data message only brings up problems with EA titles. I've never had a game with no previous problems go south like this. Guess I'll have more room on my HD!

Gato...I'm running Win7...Try installing in the main (C:/) folder or root directory of your drive...I'm not running any shadows very happily by the way...SK

Thanks all,THIS worked, I tried this before but I must not have gotten the thread EXACTLY right because when I answered yes and entered,I was told the path could not be found. Love cut and paste! Also used compatibility wizard in Windows 7 to run SH4 in XP SP2 mode..... as follows---Please try to delete the userdata files:

Open the command line by pressing Start and selecting the Run... option.
Type cmd and push the [Enter] button on the keyboard.
Please type in rd /s "%APPDATA%\SecuROM" and press [Enter] on the keyboard.
Answer Y to the Y/N question and press [Enter] to complete the process.

The folder should now be deleted. Please understand that any SecuROM application that uses UserData will rebuild these files and folder with future launches. --- Thanks again ,I hope this info will be of future help
