DANG! I didn't know he had Rick Derringer and Edgar Winter touring with him! That's a show I wouldn't mind seeing!
Oh, and your time was perfect, Vendor. It's almost noon where I'm at now. :D

A guy whose drumming skills were often overlooked because of those who stood in front of him on stage.

You know I don't think ol' Ringo gets quite enough credit as a drummer. I read a couple years ago about some fun testing they did where they got a group of people together and played them the (isolated) drum tracks from a bunch of classic rock songs.
Far and away, more Beatles tunes were correctly identified by more people just from the drum tracks than recordings by anyone else.
Of course I don't know diddley about the fine art of drumming* but I sure do like his beats.
And I guess this means John would've been 70 come October. *sniff*
*"Real" musicians, please feel free to insert your own snicker here.

Octopus Garden is one of their best, I don't care if nobody else thinks so :DL
As a boy growing up in the 1980s there is one thing that I associated with Ringo Starr long before I heard of the Beatles...

I don't dispute your choice but I think there are quite a few tracks that could be singled out :DL

One of Ringo's first vocal ventures was a Beatles cover of Carl Perkins' 'Honey Don't', which appeared on Beatles For Sale (US Beatles '65). Perkins liked hearing other people doing his songs, and here they are together.

"Ticket To Ride" is still, for my money, the perfect pop record.
I'm not saying there aren't other recordings out there that are just as good, but... I don't think anything tops it.

If I'm not mistaken he was on Larry King's show a while back and Larry kept calling him "George."

Oh I love that song! It's quite wonderful in it's on way, in that that it's so genuinely happy and innocent. No conflict whatsoever, it's just a couple of minutes of pure joy and happiness. And Ringo is my biggest inspiration as a drummer. I'm not too fond of hard or mega fast drumming, I like the more relaxed approach, the smart and professional...like Ringo, and Charlie Watts.
Congrats Ringo, old chap! :yeah:

One of my favorites, but partly because of the 'skiing' scenes in the movie when I saw it in the theater. My favorite from Help! is still 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away', and my favorite Beatles song is 'I've Just Seen A Face', with too many others a very close second to actually make a choice
My favorite Ringo song is the one he wrote himself - 'Don't Pass Me By', from the 'White Album'.
"I'm sorry that I doubted you. I was so unfair.
You were in a car crash, and you lost your hair..."

You know I was shocked when I looked at The Beatles' "page" at... I think it was Amazon? Anyway, some place with a discography where the various albums were rated. And Help! had one of the lowest ratings. It may be my favorite of all their early albums, so many great songs on that one.

:yep: One of my favorites too. Of course I was influence by the fact that I saw the movie, and in the opening black & white scene girls were screaming at the movie screen! Also I've said elsewhere that 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away was the first song I ever figured out for myself on guitar. I figured it out wrong, but hey, I was fifteen!
Of course it's the original American version that I remember best - just the seven songs from the movie and a bunch of orchestrated stuff. Loved that version.

A lot of early Beatles' stuff sounds deceptively simple when it's really not... my karate instructor also plays guitar and takes lessons from a prominent local axeman. This guy had him start learning some Beatles' tunes and he was telling me how much harder they were than he expected. Not the simple three or four chord "standard" pop song formulas at all.
I have a couple Beatles songbooks and I tried a long time ago to get through a couple of what I thought would be "easy" tunes, but realized pretty quick that they were way beyond my C-G-Em-D7 repertoire, lol, even if you "dumbed down" things a bit. I'm sure it didn't help that I already had the "official" versions burned into my brain from years of constant exposure.

My favorite albums are actually Sgt. Pepper's and Abbey Road. Sounds cliché but there you go. Especially Abbey Road, which I just think is more or less...perfect. Not a single song on that album that I do not love!
But their early stuff is pretty good as well, obviously. I love "Another Girl", "She's A Woman", and even "She Loves You", which I often see panned just because it's...well...shallow:haha: Just listen to the "Yeah yeah yeah!" by the end! Marvelous stuff! And then we got "Drive My Car" and "The Night Before"....you know, you can pretty much just add any Beatles song to the list!:haha::haha::har::har:
Oh, and, when it comes to Ringo...."Yellow Submarine". It started it all for me. Fifth grade, must be 7-8 years ago. During English class we got to listen to the song and I thought "hah, this is kinda funny. And it's kinda good too!" So I went home and told my parents about us having listened to a band called Beatles and asked if they knew about it...well as you can imagine, they knew quite alot! :D They gave me the single collection from 2000, "1", and I listened through it a great number of times. And then I was hooked. Started to listen to Beatles in the fifth grade, it was the first music I ever listened to, and trust me, weren't many in my age who liked this stuff at the time! We had most of the albums, but not all. But last year my pa bought me the Stereo box in NYC. It's one of my most precious items atm! A given buy for any Beatles fan!
Oh and "Twist & Shout", best early rock song I've heard, and yes, I KNOW the Beatles only did a cover on it!:O::haha:

Having been an avid fan of the Beatles all my life it's no suprise I've every album (apart from no3 which is a compilation of songs and not a 'true' album) on the list below (purchased monthly through a collectors club).
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Definitive-Beatles-Albums-List/lm/2W1U9VHHNQFK6
What suprises me is the fact I've none of them on vinyl, they are all CD's
NB. I've been through all the discussions and debates over the years that releases such as Sgt Peppers and Yellow Submarines weren't really albums but releases from films...to me they are albums if they contain Beatles songs that heven't been previously released on another album.

I used to have all the US releases on vinyl, but I sold them a long time ago. None of them were in good enough shape to be worth much.
I have them all on CD, and am currently buying the 2009 remastered versions. There really is a difference to the sound. I also plan to get all the US releases which are now available on CD as well.
Me, a fan? No way!

They were released last September. You can buy them separately, or, as my pa did, in a box:
