View Full Version : Just how dynamic is the SH5 Campaign?

Well I've spent hours translating DonL1978's tutorial from German into English (and a very good tutorial it is too), so I once again took my phone off the hook and began my gradual decent into the madness that to battle of the Atlantic, only to be struck by a troubling epiphany,... just how dynamic is this campaign? I mean hypothetically speaking if I were to to what I used to do when I lost my temper with "aces of the deep" (I.e. turn off vulnerability, limited fuel and limited ammo and charge into convoys at flank speed with my deck gun blazing) and sink the entire royal navy in the process could my actions lead to Germany winning the war? or has the UK been issues with UBI issue pixie dust and can spawn shipping, aircraft carrier and cruisers until I finally realise that there is a skulls all over my uniform probably makes me the bad guy and so I should just give up, go home and loose (as often happened in previous games).
I mean so much as already been sacrificed in this game (such as the half hearted attempt at role play... I mean if your going to insist that I talk to the crew at least let me have the option being the kind of cold hearted captain that we so loved in crimson tides.. or at least give me the option of providing motivation for my crew in the form of a firing squad back at home port (as I really grow tired of those "special meals" ) any how I digress, has any one completed the campaigns and are the truly dynamic or is one kick ass uboat captain just not enough.....

You can't win the war. No matter how good you are, you can't change history.
Other than that it is dynamic. It will never play out the same way twice (unless, of course, you are able to duplicate all of your activities perfectly).

Uhm in silent hunter 4 you get to win the war because the U.S actually won the war? Ever thought about that?

as I really grow tired of those "special meals"
Someday someone will finally work on a mod to change the "special meal" to something else.

Psst. Oscar. Don't spread this around, but I think Luden was being facetious. ;)

lol indeed, though in all honesty if you mannage to hunt and kill several battle ships, aircraft carriers, and heavy cruisers, and spend three years generally grinding the Royal Navy to dust, I wouldn't mind seeing an alternative outcome, even if it is simply GB brokering a peace deal, ... that way you can at least see your effory rewarded, and having browsed Luth's the problems of command I would not mind being able to sentence a moaning crewmember or two to "the silent treatment" or sleeping on the floor ... te he he he

Well, play the game to the end and do that (the grinding of the Royal Navy) and maybe the thing you ask for actually happens ;)

Or not. Simply because the game have spawn points. Even if we go for a massive grind and sunk the whole allied navy twice, is useless as the ships will spawn back. Sometimes they spawn on each other, like here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showpost.php?p=1437810&postcount=879). :nope:

No, if you sink the unique ships (battleships are some) once, they won't spawn again.
There are still bugs related to spawning, but spawn points in themselves are nothing evil, just a relatively cheap solution to place ships in a "safe area" in the harbor, where they shouldn't hit walls, etc.
The game engine needs that information.
Hmmm.. one question then. The number of capital ships in the game are based on historical facts? For example.. if in TG campaign I manage to sink all the QM BB's before march 40, means that op. Weserubung will become a lost mission by default? :hmmm:

The number if of course based on the real thing and you can check the roster files yourself.
Depending on how the campaign events or objectives are defined, you may see different results to player actions preventing real history. In some cases, a missing battleship will be replaced by a similar one - as the Royal Navy would have assigned a different BB to support the landings if the Warspite were not available.
.. and if I manage to sink all allied BB's before the mission start, they will build a special one only for this event. Is not realistic, but also 1 submarine sinking all the BB's in few months is not, so it's fair. Oke.. I like it, thank's.

No actually they will not build anything :D
Of course its a legitimate question.
