Hello, I am new here and I have a problem, I am trying to uninstall Silent hunter 3, and well, I get an error message when its half way through, then I get a fatal error and the uninstaller closes!
This what the error message says: Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C\Windows\Installer\Silent Hunter III.msi
then the fatal error where the uninstaller shuts down says: Error -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows installer help (msi.chm) for more information.

Please help!

Try re-installing the game again from the disc right over your current installation, carry out no other task while the installation is complete. Then reboot your system and try to uninstall again.
I am not sure what could have caused your uninstall error but the above procedure is the correct way to install and uninstall programs. You may be missing part of the main installation files or they may have become corrupt.
You could always try installing the latest Windows Installer to your system, this usually eliminates most installation problems.

Really though, removing SH3 from your system is unacceptable, this cannot be allowed to continue! ;)

Good luck.

Try to boot your system, and use cd for uninstall...if this not work you can handle this by picking files to bin

Welcome to SubSim matey http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/welcome.gif

If the above advice fails to resolve your issue, boot up your computer in SAFE MODE then uninstall (preferably via the game disc option).

Try ImageShack for your sig, you don't have to create an account and keep it in your account folder.

I am removing it for a clean installation to run GWX 3.0!

Well, I managed to get the re-installation done and GWX 3.0 installed but now its telling me that MOVIETEXT.ACT file is missing? Is this downloadable?

Did you go back after Unistall to C:\Programfiles\Ubisoft, and remove the Ubisoft folder ?

Then go to Documents and remove SH3 ?

THEN... When you reinstalled SH3 did you patch to 1.4 ?

Slow down and do it right. Good Luck :salute:

Medpaul1941

Yes it has been patched to the 1.4. But I didn`t delete the Ubisoft folder because I had other games in that file! But alls I am asking for is the MOVIETEXT.ACT download PM me if anyone has it.

Sorry I'm late getting back. I was on a patrol in GWX. :DL

In the Ubisoft folder is Silent Hunter III. You have to delete it after Uninstall.

GWX install demands it done a certain way.

If you do't do the install the way the GWX Manual says you will always have problems if an install at all. Sorry that's the way it is.

Btw I have the files to eliminate haveing to leave the SH3 CD in drive. And TWICE it BORKED the whole install about 3 or 4 patrols later.

You think I wasn't pissed. :haha:

I understand from reading another thread that frau kaleun is sending you the file you require.

You should heed the advice offered by FIREWALL regarding the SH3 folder contained within C\MyDocs because even if tour new install should work it WILL give you problems after you make saves to the same location from your newer install.

Guys, I have to tell you something, the game dosen`t exactly install, I can`t install it again because the computer still thinks its there after I hand pick the files in the bin! Do I just buy a new disk or what?

Use Crap cleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Or a prgramme like it to make sure that everything has gone.

And when you think everything has - do a search of files and programmes to make sure.

Make some backup before, otherwise, change can take place

You neeed to cleanse your registry files.

I use this...http://www.regvac.com/fregvac.htm.... there is a free trial version you can grab.

As Jim said,it sounds like a lot of junk has accumulated in your registry base, cleaning this COULD alleviate the problem but is not guaranteed.Either clean the registry manually (a risky endeavour if you dont know what you are doing!) or buy a certified reg cleaner from say Amazon,or you may be able to find some freeware online.
The only safe way to return your system to its factory defaults (original working order) is to format the entire system.By that I mean insert your original operating system disc (if you have it) and clean install the entire OS from scratch again, making sure to back up all important files, like saved games etc.
This WILL guarantee the return of your original system and restore the default windows installation files needed to install stuff, and probably allow you to install SH3 again properly ONLY if you are sure there is nothing wrong with the SH3 disc and it has worked before with no problems.
If your system was built for you by a friend for example you may not have the original OS disc at hand,in which case it may be prudent to buy one.I still use Win XP home edition and its still a rock solid OS,although the Service Pack 2 has been known to cause problems with games and is quite bulky in size,a whopping 400MB I think it was!
Sorry if this is no help, but formatting WILL remove all problems that were not there before.I personally carry out a format usually once a month or so,just helps to keep her weight down by removing all the uneeded, and likely corrupt junk.

Again, guys, search the &*#^! archives before guessing! This same question has been asked and answered before. It is not SH3 related - search Google and follow the oodles of instructions. Seriously, it only takes a few minutes to do.

Heck, I'll even help you get started... http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hs=nCm&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Error+1316.+a+network+error+occurred+while+attem pting&spell=1 (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-GBfficial&hs=nCm&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Error+1316.+a+network+error+occurred+while+attem pting&spell=1)

Seriously, I have no idea what you are asking. How many people install what (JSGME? SH3? Leisuresuit Larry?) into A? And why is where people install what into A such a burning question that you must follow me all over the forum with it?

Frankly, I have no idea how many people install what into A, B, C, Q or Z drive, and I fail to see even the relevance of the question in the context of the message I posted.

Sorry, you have lost me on this one Vendor. Perhaps you might like to start a poll?
