I just wanted to keep this thread as simple as possible as I seem to still be having problems taking screenshots with the higher resolutions fix.I would also like to know YOUR preferred server for hosting your images, and finally how to correctly upload them here to the forum.
Terribly sorry as this subject has no doubt been covered countless times before but nonetheless I AM having trouble here and I so desperately want to include images to my patrol reports, which is where I now come to you and your wise council.
5 years playing this game and I thought I knew everything (we can't possibly be expected to know everything and sometimes its the simplest things that seem to elude us) ;)

I look forward to your input here my good friends :up:

Hi Paul....I don't have the res fix so can't help you there but I can get you through the posting of screenshots procedure.

Go to http://imageshack.us/

Click on Browse (notice I have my image size set for a 17-inch monitor, it doesn't have to correspond with your actual monitor size, mine is a 22" flatscreen but I like the look of that size on this forum, the larger the size selected, the larger the image will be on the forum).

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/936/80075994.jpg (http://img401.imageshack.us/i/80075994.jpg/)

The file box will open, go to wherever your image is stored, in this example the desktop.

Click on the image and select Open.

Click on the UPLOAD NOW button.

http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/6753/64025752.jpg (http://img638.imageshack.us/i/64025752.jpg/)

Your image will upload and show a small thumbnail, I'm using one of my Police photos.

Underneath you will see the Forum Code....left mouse click to highlight it then right mouse click to choose Copy.

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/3306/82834064.jpg (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/82834064.jpg/)

Go to your forum message and right mouse click paste and the code for the image will appear in your message.

You can check by using the preview message function on the forum.

That should see you good to go http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

I have the High Res fix and screnshots are still ok for me using the Shift-F11 combo.

They are stored in the Main SHIII Folder as Bitmap Images. I use Gimp to scale to the size I want and convert to Jpeg which I then export to the photobucket site to host.

Many thanks for that,I will look into this later. (think I may have been forgetting the SHIFT button with F11,damn)
The conversion from Bitmap to Jpeg will be very useful as I didnt want to post Bitmaps here.Could you just briefly describe a little about Gimp and if there are other alternatives out there that other people use?.
Lastly,do you know if servers like Imageshack convert the images for us? removing the need to use further programs (like Gimp) to do the conversion for us.
MUCH appreciated!

I buy my own web site space (www.ipowerweb.com) for like $100 a year, and put my pictures there.

As for the hi-rez fix, if you fix it let me know because when I tried taking screen shots with F11 it caused a crash to desktop.

This is why I no longer use it.

I dont think I could play without the res fix after having it enabled recently, certainly not on a 20" widescreen that is,the game looks so much better running in the monitor's resolution.
I suspect I need to include the SHIFT key to take the shots,we shall see :hmmm:

Cheers.

After doing a bit of research online it seems there is an even easier way to convert image files from Bitmap to Jpeg, and its built into Windows,Microsoft Paint.

http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/convert-bmp-to-jpg/

I really hope thats all you have to do,it would save me/us extra hassle installing various software to do the converting which is probably limited to a trial period anyway.
Let me know if this method works as stated,as I still need to actually TAKE a screenshot.

Paint is okay for changing the format but the programme I use mainly is Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/

It is FREE and has more available picture formats....and will resize images not only in % terms but also in numbers of pixels.

That IMHO is your best option.

But Paint DOES at least convert the file (allowing it to then be uploaded to the image server),and retain original picture quality too? I am not too bothered about tinkering with the pixel quality so long as the software in question retains original quality...to some degree at least :yep:

Cheers Jim.

But I don't think Paint will resize it Paul (I may be wrong mind).

Irfanview will do oodles more for your images/photos etc than Paint ever will.

CTRL + F11 still doesnt seem to want to take screenshots, neither does SHIFT + F11 for that matter.I DID have a reference before instructing you how to take shots with the res fix but I cant bloody find it,in fact I cant even find any references to the res fix through the search function,I even looked in the downloads section.
For the last (I mean it) time can someone point me to the page for the res fix download?,I need to check through the readme.

Thanks

REMINDER FOR MYSELF!

Prt Scrn + F11 to take screenshots.

Well,I managed to take 4 screens last night and noticed they were in .tga format, and windows cannot open these by default.I then searched on google and found the following link to the GIMP (which has been recommended I use) program which should be able to work with these file extensions -

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-win/files/

I downloaded the program and was then presented with a zip file, and when I opened it there was a large directory of folders etc but no installation .exe to actually install it.How then do I install it?

Thanks

Have you tried the version of GIMP hosted on SUBSIM?
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1356

Unzips into 2 files.
An exe file and a manual.

Sergei (or anyone else that may know),

I tried the Gimp program and opened up one of the 4 shots I took last night but now there is an odd 'checkerboard' pattern over the image seen mainly in the sky section and the bow spray. And when I finally saved this image in .jpeg format the 'new' image seems to be a negative of the original, because these shots were taken at night and now the sky is pure white with this silly checkerboard still visible.
I am NOT happy and will probably give up trying to take screens for my reports now,it seems more trouble than its worth,SH3 USED to be able to take screenshots normally (AND in jpeg format I think) and then I could simply uploaded the image/s to the Imageshack server, but after the higher res fix? seems it has screwed that basic function up beyond repair! :x:damn:

Any advice as to what I may be doing wrong within the Gimp program would be well recieved! I will give this one last shot.

Thanks

I don't think the problem is with GIMP.
I am pretty sure that on some peoples systems the Res Fix FUBARS the screenshots.

I am re-installing SH3 today (threw too many mods at it and broke the sucker!)

So, I did a little experiment.

Shot 1. Stock Install. Stock resolution.

http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/8454/without1.jpg

Shot 2. Stock install. Res fix applied.

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/667/with1.jpg

Sorry Paul. If this is happening to you too, then I would say the only way you are going to get decent screenshots is with an external 3rd party screenshot app.

Dont suppose you know of any 3rd party screenshot apps out there? and how exactly would that work OUTSIDE of the game :hmmm:
Thanks for the reply by the way, looks like it is a universal problem with the rex fix (damn)
Lastly, how exactly did you break your game, what mods do you suspect where causing the problem, and can you tell me what was happening? (for my own reference of course, even though I dont use that many mods, say about 10 or so and thats including 4 or 5 of the default ones within GWX)

The only one I found that worked to my satisfaction was one called Screenshot Utility. But as I said (some other thread I think) it's not free.
Haven't found a decent free one yet.
It worked by running in the background. Yeah sure, that took up system resources, but we're talking k here, rather than meg. I didn't notice any degredation in SH3's performance. And the hotkey I assigned to take a shot remained active, regardless of what application I was using at the time.

Lastly, how exactly did you break your game, what mods do you suspect where causing the problem, and can you tell me what was happening?

Don't know for sure. I would be cruising along and just CTD.
I'm not even sure that Mod Soup was the cause of my problem.
I have been experimenting with cloning ships recently. So to make sure I didn't break anything, would copy the relevant ship files from the SH3 directory into a folder on my desktop.
I suspect (but don't know for sure) that I ended up moving some instead of copying them. Then the SH3 engine went to render a ship that had just wandered into my view, but couldn't because it was missing a file (or files). CTD.

Seeing as I was just starting a new career, so therefore had nothing to lose, I just figured I'd do a reinstall, rather than trying to track down the cause of the problem.
