Reading about some tankers this evening and i found this about the old Jahre viking / knock nevis or now known as mont.

In december 2009 she was sold for scrap to alang india and work has already commenced on her distruction.

I have a passion for VLCC and ULCC and this is a sad day.

The largest moving object built by man the longest ship in the world (not the heaviest though that one goes to the baltilus class), she is so large she cannot navigate the english channel panama canal or even the suez.
She is a single hull tanker and therefore banned from entering European waters and also now american waters.

Shame since 2004 she has been used as a floating storage unit.

Sounds like she could've been a floating airstrip also.

Sounds like she could have been a floating country!

Drawing almost 25 meters! :o

Takes 8,000 meters to come to a stop from full speed :o:o

That was one big boat!

A sad day indeed.

Now what are you going to jam into Dover? :hmmm::03:

Seriously though, a shame, I know she'd be moored up for ages so I guess it was only a matter of time in this economic climate. Of course, when the swing swings the other way I'm sure they'll be building big boats again.

I wonder if boats that big are economically feasible any more.

According to the following graphic, the tanker was among a series of weapons designed to be dropped on the Pentagon (other weapons include the Empire State Building). :hmmm:

OMG! what a find. This could be the smoking gun we have been looking for. Al Qeada can use this to plan their next attack of dropping the Empire State Building on the Pentagon. 911 was only the test.

Would Donitz have given me the Swords and Diamonds for bagging that tonnage? :03:

If it were filled with heavy crude, I wonder how hard it would be to sink?

A floating golf course on deck and night clubs under the deck
all in international waters to keep the law out

now, lets all drink alcohol in the same amount as the crude oil she carried in her memory.

1 torpedo in the middle would put her to the bottom me thinks, single hulled she sits low in the water about 82 feet of her hull is submerged and its over 500,000 tonnes there so if you missed it at 1000 yards you have some crap crew !

What tonnage? I haven't forgotten your complete inability to even find a target, Mr. I-Don't-Use-Hydrophones.

Here's your U-boat commander handbook, you dropped it overboard while you were wasting your time on the surface:DL
