this is a major problem with the user interface in SH5.

basic things that should be a given and immediately visible are not.

If you click on the captains hat icon at the far right of the screen, i believe this will give you current date and time.

as far as the gramaphone.

I have explored the entire damned sub and cant figure out how to play a single song

I know the gramophone is broken in stock, but I think there's a mod...

Push O and u will get a clock.

Or just take a look at one of the many clock inside the sub.
Or search on the mod section for a very nice and simple addon to the UI: Digital UI Clock 1.2 for SH5-1.2
Or install TheDarkWraith UI mod.

Also search on the mod section for some cool radio mod, I use Grossdeutscher Rundfunk.

Clicking "k" on the keyboard will also bring up the Captain's Log, which indicates the current date.

As for the gramophone, the code for that is in the game, but the developers didn't get around to connecting the proper commands for its activation. Luckily, some clever and generous forum members have put out mods which give us access to the gramophone, and in a very elegant manner. :yeah:

I use a combination of the Mighty Fine Crew and the More Commands by Dialog mods. Put together, you can "tell" the radio man to turn on the gramophone and, get this, he sits down and reaches over to flip the switch on the machine! :woot:

To make the most of this cute little feature, I would recommend that you find and download a nice collection of period music offered by another forum member. There are over a hundred pieces, so you won't get bored listening to the same few songs over and over again. :DL

Enjoy!

Both My High Res Mod and TDW UI Mod contain the Gramaphone accessed thru the officer orders bar

You could go into the CFG file and assign a keyboard command to bring up the gramophone. You'll just need to be sure to assign a command that won't be overwritten by one of your mods. :hmmm:

Here is a forum page that discusses this:

Good luck!
