The reason? It's a secret world conspiracy involving the jews and Illuminati. Now that you know.. run and don't look back!!

The reason is that they suck at running a forum.
It doesn't really matter, Ubisoft has entirely abandoned Silent Hunter, so there won't be anything on those forums anymore. The only posts from the last 10 days were people posting questions that have been answered dozens of times already and pirate copies not able to install.
Oh, and my post totally calling them out for abandoning the game, which they never responded to anyway.
SH is dead as far as Ubisoft is concerned, delete your bookmarks for their forums and just hang here. :DL

I think last posts there referred mainly to never materialized so far ms-kleaneasy's promise from July 14th about answering to the SH5 community a simple question: "Dear Ubisoft: Yes or No, Is the Silent Hunter series still supported by Ubisoft????"
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1121062387/m/6351005768/p/2
Now I am sure the right answer is kylana's answer seen above that I can summarize as follows: "SH5 was abandoned by UBI and its present deplorable state is its final state".
And I also think an answer from UBI will never come...

Honestly, i went there like 30 times, each was just the same old crap, some uber fanboy vs. someone who like me that expected more of something else. it got bad. most of my posts were removed. most just comments on how simple stuff is missing, and why the modderes were able to fix the games many problems way before the first patch.
and how it is all just a plan for DLC to take over. Xboxes have built in wifi now, so watch at all the dlc that will be only usable if your conntcted.....oh and they talked allot about DRM over there too but most of those got deleted really quick if mis whats her-face is on at the time.

So now UBI is out of sub simulation business (we can expect some kind of SH6 sub-shooter to be released on consoles only) and what you propose?
SH3+GWX3 is getting more and more graphically outdated, SH4/UBM+OM+OMEGU is not fully functional Battle of Atlantic recreation due to some shortcomings and glitches, fixing SH5 v. 1.2 by modders alone seems to be very hard task to do. Well, virtual U-boat skippers are in trouble now...

I don't know if other major publishers replace UBI on sub-simming market. Well, even "native" developers like Sonanalysts left this market after DW releasing six years ago. :-?

No doubt there will. And often the ashes of one disaster have become the start of a newer, brighter era in history. Patience will pay off.

its because of e3. hey, its a weekend and nobody is home. we'll make some noise next week. what are we going to tell these suckers? oh i know, we will delete and forget. that always works. :O:

I don't know, I don't know...but it looks like PC gaming market evolves to be more and more unfriendly to casual customer:
- weird software DRMs sometimes affecting our rigs
- constant on-line presence required during all game-play
- you cannot resell already bought - mean your - game
- you cannot install it on another rig or reinstall as many times as you wish
- now even not all game code is present on your rig because DRM will send lacking code via Internet to you according to your in-game progress - check how Uplay engine actually works!
Is this some VlRTUAL GULAG founded for client's money??? It's really sad... :(

E3 was early last week, and besides Silent Hunter (and therefore, presumably the SH3 devs) weren't involved with it at all.

What is the reason? :o
I can see posts from the past ten days (June 15th up to June 25th).
So, there is no reason for them to have not done something they didn't plan to not happen. However, if they had planned to have done it, it probably wouldn't have been done, but just because they didn't plan it doesn't necessarily mean that it wouldn't happen. Not happening and having happened are of course two different things that both need to be planned for, whether you take E3 into account or not. They could have planned it and now that plan has been reversed, or perhaps the reverse may be true.

Seriously - that is very funny, but from now on I'm done with Ubisoft. Regardless of whether or not they support the subsim games from now on, you have to admit they've treated us very badly and I have to say that SH5 is the last Ubisoft game I will buy.
I'll stick to supported games from now on..

OK, but regardless of whatever Ubi have and have not done, the forum appears OK for me and that's what the OP is about. I can see posts from every day over the past ten days from the link posted, can no one else see them?
EDIT: Now the posts are back, are Ubisoft less reminiscent of the Nazis? How does that work...

more likely it will be one day very soon that they will just turn off sh5 servers with no warning or explaining and NEVER remove the DRM to add the final insult to unhappy customers who dared to not drink their coolaid
as for all the missing posts, well they will use their standard lame excuse of saying cyber attackers did it

The ubi forums use eve software. eve software had an update a couple weeks ago that broke the login feature.
I would think that the latest problems are due to the previous forum updates.

C'mon kylania, cut them some slack...they're obviously still very busy with E3...(well, they've got to pack their stall up - that must easily take two weeks of every Ubi manager's time).
Then of course there's the 7 day weekends they seem to have. Can't expect them to plan their time around those.
/sarcasm
Doesn't set a good precedent for anyone expecting a warning from Ubisoft before they decide to turn off the servers...
I laughed when a link to your thread was first posted here...I can't believe people actually still expect Ubisoft to respond. :haha::har: Maybe one day...

WWI flight simmers have been modding that one and waiting since what?...oh yeah...the 1990's....mid 1990's that is...
...and the wait goes on......
Unless,of course, you count the release of the FlyBoys Flight Sim...on the shelf new for $9.99 ..and that one would even embarrass SH5...:haha:

There were subisms before Ubisoft (that happen to be the best ones) and there'll be subsims after :sunny:

First Eagles, CFS3 Over Flanders field, Rise of flight, there have been other WW1 sims after Red Baron II.
I play a heavily modded First Eagles, and I prefer it over RBII.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the enthusiast-developed "Over Flanders Field" or the study sim "Rise of Flight"? Both of those are more than worthy sucessors to Red Baron.
Yes, it took years for them to come, but the wait has been well worth it for this ex-Red Baron pilot.
Food for thought. And hope.

Exactly! I have "Over Flanders Field" and it's pretty good. The graphics are a bit dated, but it supports TrackIR (or rather, the underlying MS Combat Flightsim supports it), which makes it light years ahead of the Red Baron gaming experience, as much as I loved Red Baron. I thought helicopter combat sims were dead and buried too, and then DCS Black Shark came along recently.
Subsims are probably a little easier to program than flight sims. Fewer variables, enemy AI moving in two dimensions instead of three, and at much lower relative speeds. Water effects aren't that difficult with modern 3D environmental suites. Someone else will do it. But it will take a few years for SH5 to finally fade from the scene, and leave a gap in the market.

the problem is that you have absolutely no basis for a lawsuit since Ubi was very carefull to only imply you could be assured of server access and never guarranteed it would continue in the future
its that age old trick the legal dept uses when they say they "may" or "might" do or provide something instead of "can" or "will"
the legal mumbo jumbo "implies" everything but promises nothing so if your game is a coaster tomorrow they are free and clear and you have no legal recourse because of it.
as for pirates, well we all know that path is already there for those who wish to enguage in that activity

Any way you want to cut it, Ubi has the ball and is calling the next play. The score is Ubi 0, Failure 72. There are only two minutes left in the game but the next play is still Ubi's.
I look forward to the day when we can all sing "Turn out the lights, the party's over!" They are a large company with huge assets, but I have great faith in their ability to "screw the pooch" to put it in fighter jock vernacular. Wonder how they will blow this last play?
Certainly they have taken themselves out of any consideration for any non-kiddie popcorn games they might wish to publish in the future. They've become a competitor of Pop Cap games.
But it will take a few years for SH5 to finally fade from the scene, and leave a gap in the market.
I don't think so. I bet if Ubi would publish the sales figures, SHV probably drowned worse than SHIV. Wouldn't be a big surprise given an incompletely, poorly designed, flawed product with a unacceptable DRM scheme. So I would rather say that SHV didn't even plug the gap, but if at all then it is still SHIII (+GWX or other supermods) and SHIV (+TM etc) that would be a direct competition to a new game. I wouldn't worry about SHV at this point...
