Ok, I was told to come here for help from the Steam forums. This is my problem,When I start to play SH5, the initial loading of SH5 is completely fine, it's when I start a new campaign that's the problem, lol. The game asks me to choose a name, after I click ok the game starts to load. It'll probably keep the loading screen up for about 10 to 30 seconds when windows closes the game down. My specs are below:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @ 2.5 Ghz
Video: NVidea GeForce 8800GT - Driver Version: 8.17.11.9745

Please help me:salute:

Have you update the game ?

Sounds like a broken install to me, try BIGREG's suggestion first and if that doesn't help you'll probably want to try uninstalling completely (might be worth cleaning your registry too) and then re-install and see what happens.

Also make sure is not installed in the Program Files folder. Is strongly recommended to be installed anywhere else, similar to what Bigred pointed out.

I tried the updater sugguestion but after it finished and started installing, it said that Silent Hunter 5 wasn't installed. I have three SATA 500 Gb drives, the C: drive is partioned and Silent Hunter 5 and all my Steam games are installed on the larger partion (My F: drive, which is strictly used for my Steam games and nothing else). This rules out the Program Files suggestion, lol. Then I tryed to uninstall/reinstall the game. Windows 7 does not populate the game in the list of installed programs, so how can I uninstall it? This is really pissing me off:damn:. I like the series, been playing this series since the Commodore 64c days. But if Ubisoft doesn't fix this soon they lost one more customer. And by the way, I want to thank you for helping me.

I had it once installed on W7 and had few crashes too. But that was because I had only 4G memory and that's just not enough. W7 only is a big resource sucker, SH5 too. Was the reason why I came back to XP untill I will not fire up to at least 8G memory. If ur low on memory too, time to upgrade.

That's just it, I have 8 Gb of RAM so resources shouldn't be a problem with my system. This all happened when I updated my NVidia drivers:x I'll check with them to see if there are any problems with their updated drivers.

Are you sure about this? Silent Hunter != Silent Service...

Yes, your absolutely right. It was Silent Service, lol. That was a good game, lol. Now back to the problem at hand, I reinstalled Silent Hunter 5 and the same thing happens. When the game is just about loaded and ready (Right after you hear the click before you start the game), windows closes the program. This is very frustrating:damn:

How do I open SH5 in windowed mode? I'd like to try your method.

go to graphics and select windowed mode. but dont put res too high or it will still be full screen for some reason.

I have the pretty much close to the same system specs as yours. CTD when starting campaign and historical mission after fresh install from Steam. What I did:

1. Uninstall VC++ 2008 Redistributable 9.0.30729.4974.
2. Launch the game via steam, the steam client service will try to update and configure your system. If you're not an Admin and UAC is full, you'll get prompted to logon with admin, click NO. If not I assume you have to have UAC on or otherwise it may always try to install this component. (I don't know for sure since I don't set up my local account as a full admin with uac off).

You are a brillant person:salute:. It worked perfectly. I uninstalled VC++ 2008 Redistributable 9.0.30729.4974. Once that was done, I ran the game. It didn't ask me anything about any Admin password, but it did reinstall the VC++ files. Once the game was running I started a new campaign and it worked perfectly. Thank You so much. It's been about 2 months since I played, time to start prowling again, lol.:rock:

Glad to hear that. I submitted a bug report to Ubisoft support, and they replied it will be forwarded to the dev team, hopefully they fix this issue.
