Just had my first play tonight. We didn't play to finish because of time issue. Spent 3 hours just to reach the 5th turns out of possible 10. First time game always takes the longest and usually the most painful too to the brain LoL.

If you're not familiar with the game it's a game of the cold war with the map of the world as the political battleground.

My first impression is that the game requires thinking much more than any electronic game out there even those which claimed to be strategic ones.

The final tally was 0-0. A neck to neck tie between the Soviet Union and USA. In the early war the Soviet almost seemed unstoppable but somehow I managed to held on playing as the United States.

By turn 5th Soviet seemed to dominate Europe while US dominated central America. My guess is that US would lose the game by turn 8-10 thanks to what I think an imbalance cards if the trend continued.

A great game though I would recommend this game to anyone who likes to burn their brain a bit.

It made one realizes that politics is more about making decisions and many of them are hard to make and sacrifices must be made for a greater goal. You just can't win them all. Cold war is a zero sum game indeed.

Again if I had kids I would recommend them to play boardgames more than electronic(PC or console) games and Twilight Struggle would definitely be among them.
