If possible I would like to join to the mighty forces of lolwaffe. I don't have a mic. My take-off looks like I'm drunk and I propably am the first one to be shot down or I accidentally bail off. I don't own the joystick yet, propably getting it this week, nor I have flew before with joystick. All my flying experience is based on maybe four unhappy ending flights with IL-2 and with keyboard and game pad. If I have to name one strenght I have, it is perfect landings. I'm a phenomenal landing machine, I'm a natural talent. My landings are precise as prussian nazi. (this is all based on one landing)

I have a Il-2 Sturmovik 1946. I have downloaded HFSX mod and ultrapack which I have not yet installed. What else mods do I need?

the main cause of death in the lolwaffe is usualy Crash on takeoff/landing.

Huraaay, it's official my 8800GT bit the dust it seems :shifty:

No drivers - it runs fine (except I can't run anything)
with drivers - Graphical glitches in games and windows, system lock up now even my splash screen (windows load up screen) has a nice formation of blue dotted pixels in a pattern and that's in DOS.

so it seems I'll be not flying for quite a while.

so probally gonna prep my PC up for a complete formatation and reinstallation and have a upgrade perform on it with a newer video card, more ram, probally a better CPU and when needed a bigger PSU. and perhaps some extra fans to keep it cooler.

Video cards don't necessarily die because of heat. I had a Nvidia that died after about two years with pretty much the same symptoms as yours and I don't think it died from heat in my PC.

Considering he said it ran 60° C idle, I'd say that's that it is the most likely cause.

They run fairly toasty, my GTS gets up to 58 in idle too, but is completely inaudible then (even after cranking up the cooling a little). They never run over 80C under load though.

Tons of games that do that, and they got other tricks: a lot of cards only measure temperature on the core, not the memory. As a result, memory can easily overheat, leading to crashes or failure.

Had 2 or 3 crashes from SCII, a lot more from console ports like Mass Effect.

That said, it looked like the memory on Hunter's card failed, so it may well have been SCII that pushed it over the edge. :hmmm:

I guess running the Blizzard Download manager downloading the english client which was growing in GB's to cause my system to hog a bit and then run SCII wasn't something healthy on a system like mine.

It was about time for an upgrade anyway, I guess. I'm trying to hold out for something my current card just won't run in an acceptable form... apart from ArmaII, but I still think that should run better than it does. Not gonna upgrade just for that. :hmmm:

Well, I was planning to do this later on this year or early next year depending the requirements of Storm of War.

but apparently my card decided to give in earlier then I would wanted but heck these things happen.

I could opted to just replace the card but that wouldn't get me further, as still I would have to spend more cash later on for an upgrade that I planned, so thought better have it done now so I could get on for the next couple of years.

I think this is a good time to upgrade; the graphics craze seems to have waned a bit, with engine's focusing more on scalability... maybe I should say "focusing more on running on consoles"...

At any rate, interesting offers from both Nvidia and ATI, quad-cores and 4GB RAM are affordable, current-gen will be around a few years longer so graphics for most games will not advance in leaps and bounds. Feels like the right time to me, maybe postpone a bit more and see if prices go down a bit. :hmmm:

To expand upon the above evil overtures. Hunter has asked me to host the continuing missions of the BOB campaign which I hope to do from Monday. Of course, if the GWX TS goes down we will need a backup, I know Arc usually has the ball on this one but it'd be handy to have these kinda things nailed down before it happens and I don't know where to go. :yep:

For what it's worth, I'll make sure to have TS server up and running as often as possible. It prompts to start with Windows, so if this thing is running, so is the server. Barring a failure on my ISP's part, it should be available.

Well, with xbox pad it's not that bad. Expect I have to control rudder with keyboard and that's what makes it pretty hard. Hitting something with the MG is almost impossible...

Keyboard rudder? I used it for 2 years or so, it's really not too hard to use.

Assign the throttle to it and then assign it back to it's proper spot, that's how I cleared the rudder axis.

I think they were doing some filming as both the Spit (presumably Carolyn Grace's Spit from Bentwaters) and a twin engined Beechcraft-alike plane were in formation the first two times they flew directly overhead, some hundred-two hundred feet up. Nice and low, beautiful sound. Then the Spit broke off and did some flying around, presumably as the Beechcraft-alike went in to land. :rock:

Ok, I say we just restart the entire thing, get a new campaign, and new days.

1st, we get a decent campaign. This one started good, but turnt bad.

2nd we need to get new flight dates. I would say monday and wensday, or monday, and thrusday. 2 days a week so we dont over do it.

also, we need to get some organization. Might do best since were not doing this campaign anymore we start a new thread when we get the new campaign.
