200NM east of the african horn, september 1944.

My type XXI has been at sea for over a month heading for our objective just south of the horn. its night, dark, foggy, rain, thunder and the waves are nasty, in short really really bad weather.

my radar operator suddenly yells out "contacts"

i rush to the radar cabin and see the strangest sight. A string of pearls from the west.. heading straight for me. the closest contact is only about 4000 meters out.
It is clear to me that some sort of convoy is heading my way, i have only minutes
to make a decision. I hastily order full reverse in an attempt to make them pass me in front, crossing my fingers im not making a mistake. I also make a rudimentory torpedo solution (all contacts in a single line indicates a task force) of 16 knots, 500 meters distance at an AoB of about 120 degrees. I also order periscope depth.

I have just reach periscope dept and used the hydrophone to verify that all contacts are warships, when the first contact emerges from the fog.. its a destroyer heading at full speed towards me.

Soon after i see a huge.. and i mean really really big shadow following the destroyer, i have no time to change the torpedo solution so i cross my fingers and fire 3 torpedoes at about 10 degrees. Knowing that time is short i turn my periscope to the left hoping to find another target before the first torpedoes are discovered. And my prayers are answered, another large-something is coming fast and i fire my last 3 torpedoes within seconds. I pull down the periscope, set depth to 420 feet and order all head 2/3.

now that ive fired my torpedoes and ive set my escape plan into motion i cheat and use
the external view to look at what the hell ive been firing at.... and its 2 british battleships, the first battleships ive seen since starting playing SH IV. :arrgh!:
and mohammeds great balls, i hit with all 6 torpedoes, 3 on each battleship. The last one sinks immediately while the first one is stationary and lists heavily to starbord, but is not sinking.

I evade the destroyers for what seems like hours (real time), but probably wasnt more than 1, before i manage to get away.

Not wanting the last BB to get away i sircle around and move slowly back to the BB to
finish her off, and thats when i see something weird... there are lights in the fog.. many many lights all over.. and they are not moving. it freaks me out for a while and i decide to use the external cam again to find out what the heck is going on.

And to my amazement.. it seems the whole convoy has stopped..theres 4 or 5 heavy cruisers just sitting as if they were dead in the water, the only thing moving is the destroyers.. like angry wasps.. on the wrong side of the task force :rotfl2:

so i set my solution again and fire my fishes and realize ive made a terrible mistake.
I forgot to lock the solutions to the periscope.. which means all my just fired torpedoes all go to the same bearing, no matter what i was aiming at. although they all hit 1 of the cruisers i allow myself a reload to my last save which was just before i fired the last torpedoes ..justifying it by thinking no captain would forget that.

so what happends.. ? well, the second the game has been reloaded all the cruisers start moving again, before the reload they had been stationary for almost 1 hour (game time) :o...

what happened ? did they all somehow lose their last orders before i reloaded? or ?

inquiring minds wants to know.

I find that things seem to reset on a reloaded game. That's why I prefer saving when there is nothing around. Well done on those BB's in the fog though! :yeah:
