View Full Version : Why do devs insist on making a mess of "My Documents" folder?
Just feel like ranting...
Currently in my "My Documents" folder.. there are 10 games that have their own folder.. yet Inside the "My Games" folder there are only 4. So out of 14 games currently installed only FOUR developers can correctly place user data in the right place. It's freaking annoying as hell.
I keep alot of things in that folder.. so I like to keep it organized so i can find stuff quick.. yet my eyes have to sift through all these random folders to find the folder i need.
It's called "My Games" for a reason... FREAKIN' USE IT!
:nope:

Don't really see it as a problem or messing up of my documents folder.
I don't have problems with extra folders that are in use by the game, I do hate empty folders that are created by applications I installed and are not in use at all...they are just ''there'' beeing empty.

Becasue they are devs. Ignoring simple ergonomics and obvious solutions is part of their job description.
I personally have a different favourite, that is to make popup windows (for making a choice from a list of items) as small as possible, so that the scroll bars are needed for sure, titles do not get listed in full, and handling the whole thing becomes as microscopic as possible. The screen needs to stay as clean and unused as possible - that helps to protect against eye-cancer, I suppose.

Because My Documents is a special folder and My Games is not :DL.
Really, you don't expect us to write extra code to get that path, do you now!? :O:

Your mess is called Windows OS (tm). As long as you use such proprietary expensive as well as underdeveloped crap you will continue to live in the "My documents" and "DLL" hell of those MS wisecracks.
But there is a solution: "Windows Live"
You will only type your letters and documents online, store it online on some cheap chinese server, and also pay for every second typing and storing it there. The good thing is you will have no PC at home anymore, and screw up the server's directories somewher else :D
