I've had SH 4 two years now and have been posting on the forums at UBI and SubSim for a while as well and in that time the discussion of a modern WW II PTO submarine movie or HBO BOB/The Pacific type series for US subs has been discussed many times and recently the discussion popped up again after my posting about the movie Run Silent, Run Deep. The conversation usually ends with hoping or waiting, which most know hoping or waiting for something is usually pointless, you kind of have to do things yourself most of the time to get things started.

I am proposing a sort of "write your congressman" type campaign.Think everyone should write Hanks/Spielberg etc urging them to read books such as Clear the Bridge! by O Kane, Thunder Below by Fluckey or Silent Running by Calvert etc and to honor some vets who played a major role in winning the war but do not get the exposure.Taking nothing away from the ground war in ETO or PTO, it's been well documented, the PTO sub war has not been covered in movies or series in years, it's time.As said, urge them to read the books as they did with Sledge's book. Of course there is a good chance theyd never read it and this is some wild idea but who knows, enough letters/emails arrive at both, it could make a difference. The way I see it, worth a try and better than doing nothing but hoping and waiting. So, who is on board?:arrgh!:

Some contact info I found for Tom Hanks, writing his production company Playtone is prob the best but writing his agents couldnt hurt either.

I find that Discovery channel, History channel, and Military channel have had some well made modern documentaries and series.

Here's an idea: if anyone has a copy of a really thumping good submarine book laying around, send a copy to one of Hanks' agents with a message along the lines of "Please forward this to Mr Hanks, he has taken a passionate interest in historical moments that were critical to the US, like Band of Brothers, The Pacific, From the Earth to the Moon, etc., would be an excellent project, etc."

If you did that while pulling a Shawshank Redemption and writing a letter a week from a couple different people, maybe we could get some interest.

Also, perhaps we could forward the idea to some of the museum ships and organizations and possibly drum up some support from them.
