I've made a tool similar to the SH5 online log google map widget. You can check it out here:

New version coming soon!
new features:
- Map plots can now be exported (see demo (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=107022982945214945773.00048979358f7c7a2a3db&ll=28.202163,-177.386627&spn=0.275334,0.617294&z=11))
- Convoy reports

That is so cool, nicely done. Does it automatically suck the data from your campaign file or do you run a little application to transfer the data from your campaign file into the KML file? In other words how do we use and it when can we get it?:D:salute: [EDIT: OOPS, just looked at the link, never mind, LOL]
This would be an excellent addition to an SH4 Commander application if there was one. Conversely Kiwi's Access Skipper's Log database might be an alternative? Just tossing it out there.

Unfortunately I cannot mess directly with the career log to build a map like in SH5 since the coordinate data that gets written there is in an unknown format. However I could make an option to concatenate multiple patrol logs into one large file.
I will take a look at the SH Commander. I could make one, just name what you want in it (statistics maybe?). I'm used to data extraction so there should be no problem.

Just downloaded it and tried it out. Fantastic! I know how to make KMLs myself so I'm thinking of adding the various codenames for the patrol areas etc. Perhaps even screenshots of the "victims" LOL.
Your little application is already pretty much a skipper's log. Perhaps all you need to do is add the crew roster for a given patrol. Google already permits customized notes etc so this is great.
A simple and yet brilliant little application. Thanks.
Ref: SH3 Commander. Take a look at it and you'll see it's fairly involved and does a lot more than just a log although personally I find I use pretty much the log part alone which, as I said, you've pretty much cracked already.
Once again, thanks.:rock::salute::yeah::up::D:salute:

Just downloaded it and tried it out.
It's good you tested it! I only got to test it on two systems so stay sharp for bugs :DL Also, see that the markers are customizable. I still need some new icons...
Version 1.1 coming in 15 min :arrgh!:

I'm wondering if you can use the same program logic to insert a screenshot. i.e. Shift-F11 gives a screenshot and places it in a specific folder etc (albeit it's a .bmp file). IIRC there's a date/time stamp too which could be linked to the sunk ship date/time stamp if you get my drift. The result would be your sunk ship icon on the map and a screenshot (if taken) associated with the google map popup info for the icon. Yes? No?:hmmm::D

I had sunk 3 ships in a harbour on the far side of the Bungo Straits. Google maps had two of them on land as I guess the harbour has expanded over the years since WWII. The editing function made it easy to just grab and slide those two icons onto water and then 'save' and good to go. Handy for adjustments.

The SH Log coordinates are in degrees and minutes but no seconds. So they're not very precise. SH also uses a weird world projection and therefore some errors/distortion could appear.
Regarding the screenshots there's one problem: how do they get uploaded to some public server?

There is an option for pics in the dialogue boxes but not sure how they are uploaded or whatever can't try it at the moment.
On a seperate note. Can you do for aircraft contacts what you've done for ship sinkings?
i.e.
IF string in log = "aircraft spotted"
THEN extract date/time/lat-long from log and put it and aircraft icon in
KML
ENDIF
Just a suggestion.:D

A typical contact report log entry (other than intel on convoys/task forces - which is already in 1.2) doesn't provide the coordinates.
[Log Entry 94]
Type=0
EntryText=Aircraft spotted, sir! Bearing 223! Long range!
Date=19420626
Time=1449
Categ=5
I have an ideea though. I'll see if I can get anthing and report back :salute:

Ok, I've added an option to display downed aircraft and also animation support / interactive time slider that works with Google Earth.
Wish I had access to capaign wide data like in SH5.
To get more data I'll be looking into replay info. But it's binary bleh. I'll see what I can do.

Aergistal;
I've tried the timeslider in GE for one of my patrols. It works but the start and end time you are permitted to enter in Google has limitations. I still need to play with it as perhaps the timeframe for just one patrol is too short.
One thing is for sure, after a 4 year career the timeline would be a neat way to give an overall view of all the "incidents" and where.

GE just looks for the earliest and latest entries and uses the resulting interval. I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean by limitations. Eg: if you have only two kills a day apart the slider will be 2 days long.
As for career wide statistics you need to concatenate more patrol reports. Like export the patrol log before ending the patrol (aka before the data moves to careertrack.upc, date-time stamps get messed up and coordinates are encoded with Enigma :DL) for each patrol.
Should I add an option to select multiple KMLs and build a big one out of them with all the kills?
