What are the crush depth of all the submarines in the stock game W U-boat add-ons?

For the crush depths for each boat, I believe all you need to do is to check the depth dial gauge and see where the "red warning needle" is set. That should be the "guaranteed" depth from the manufacturer of the boat.

Typically, you should be good for something beyond the depth. Just how much deeper you can go without "issues" is something that you will need to test for yourself. With time compression obviously off, and in deep waters; try going to the manufacturers "test" depth and then gradually go deeper- I usually increase the depth in increments of 5-10 feet until I lose my nerve, or I start getting leaks or warnings from the crew.

Keep a close eye on your depth gauge and begin your assent at the first sign of problems. Now subtract 25 feet from that depth and that is what I use for my personal "crush depth" - also remember that ANY hull damage will reduce the maximum depth that you can go. If I have 10% hull damage, I will reduce my "crush depth" by 10% as well.

If you happen to "die" during the test- just reload your last save and consider your new found knowledge of your boat as command clairvoyance! ;)

Thanks dude.

I play alot more Sh3, and I'm used to going down to 150 meters (450 feet) instead of roughly 400 and dieing.

Truth be told, the stock game is a grave injustice to the fleet type submarine. They could dive alot deeper then the stock game would have you believe.

I know! I was reading on Swordfishes first 3 patrols, and with only battle damage repairs, they could still dive to 500 feet plus. On 0 hull damage, I can go down to maybe 400 feet until I crush.
Thank God for U-boot missions, I can finally go down to the nice, comfortable depth of 600 feet.

From wikipedia (yeah, I know :hmmm:):

Design depth is the nominal depth listed in the submarine's specifications. From it the designers calculate the thickness of the hull metal, the boat's displacement, and many other related factors. Since the designers incorporate margins of error in their calculations, crush depth of an actual vessel should be slightly deeper than its design depth.

Test depth is the maximum depth at which a submarine is permitted to operate under normal peacetime circumstances, and is tested during sea trials (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Sea_trial). The test depth is set at two-thirds of the design depth for United States Navy (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/United_States_Navy) submarines, while the Royal Navy (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Royal_Navy) sets test depth slightly deeper than half (4/7ths) of the design depth, and the German Navy (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/German_Navy) sets it at exactly one-half of design depth.[1] (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/#cite_note-fasman-rsrd-0)

The maximum operating depth[2] (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/#cite_note-jp1-02-1) (popularly called the never-exceed depth) is the maximum depth at which a submarine is allowed to operate under any (e.g. battle) conditions.

Crush depth, officially called collapse depth[2] (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/#cite_note-jp1-02-1), is the submerged depth at which a submarine's hull will collapse due to pressure. This is normally calculated; however, it is not always accurate. Submarines from many nations in World War II (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/World_War_II) reported being forced through crush depth, due to flooding or mechanical failure, only to have the water pumped out, or the failure repaired, and succeed in surfacing again.

Is there a depth tweak took for SH4, I seem to remember one being put online for SH3 which could enable deeeeeeper depths.

I believe TMO,RFB and OM modify crush depths but I don't think there is a stand alone mod for that.

In the SH4/Data/Submarine folder you will find subfolders for each sub, in each folder is a .cfg file (Example NSS_Balao.cfg). You can open the file with notepad and edit the CrashDepth= and MaxDepth= entries to whatever depth you would like.

:salute:

I find this works in SH2, SH3, and SH4 (with TMO). I haven't played the U-Boat missions yet in SH4 so I can't vouch for them.

At these depths you can stay as long as you like in stock/GFO without sustaining damage, as long as your boat is undamaged.

S-class = 280ft
P-class,Gar, Tambor = 328ft (Red line)
Gato = 420ft
Balao = 450ft+

Good info. I rarely go super deep unless it is just temporary to evade depth charges or to get below the thermal layer.
