Aye, would probally get it too when it's out on hard copy (yes, I'll be screwed again by the localized version but I don't want to have compability issues between DCS: Black Shark and DCS: A-10 installations)

True, unless you can order it online or something.

It's good they don't localize games here (Except once that I've seen, and that was absolutely awful), I hate localized versions...

I think I just wet myself. Wait... Yep, definetly wet myself.

Let's see how much of the new features translate through to Black Shark. As far as I know, they're in fact modules; a core engine and world with aircraft "plugging" into that. Looking at the folder structure suggests as much.

So at least the expanded map should filter through, to FC2 as well. Perhaps the JTAC (or russian equivalent) filters through as well, but I'm not sure Russia uses such systems to deploy attack helicopters. :hmmm:

Raptor1
06-17-10, 02:00 PM
Well, certainly the engine upgrades, maps and content will have to be updated into Black Shark if they're to be multiplayer compatible...

Attached are four new DCS: A-10C Warthog screen shots that show off some of the Nevada range, new squadrons markings, and payload options. This is still very much WIP.

We are currently in the process of converting to DX11, so aspects of the game are not looking so great during this transition. After the conversion is done and the game is looking good again, I hope to create the next video note.

Alternative for creditcard, at least in Europe: Wirecard (http://mywirecard.de/)

It's an online wallet, kinda like Paypal; you transfer money to it, and then use the creditcard details they give you to make the payment online. Works anywhere they accept Mastercard. Can't go into debt since you can only spend what's in the wallet, which makes it fairly resistent to abuse as well: anyone who steals your details can at most access the spare change that's in there. It's part of or a division of a German bank, so not just some shady business.

Used it myself to order A-10C, worked like a charm. Took about 3 days for the transfer from my bank-account to the wallet, and then instant purchase in ED's shop.

1 thing though: they charge €1,- per transaction, but that's when you deposit money into it (and presumably if you transfer it back to your account, if that's possible, not sure). They don't charge extra on purchases though, so no matter how many transactions you make with the money in the account, it's all free to spend.

Don't think it will show up for a while yet. Not even a date on the initial digital release, let alone the boxed version. :-?

Seems they introduced something new with the DRM; should you run out of activations, 1 will be restored to you after 2 weeks, so you can't permanently run out anymore.

Actually, you couldn't before either: ED never made an issue of making a new key available. But it's an improvement non the less.

Nah, not really. First beta release now, first update coming up this week iirc. Digital release before the end of this year if all goes well, boxed copy should follow a bit after that. Think boxed can safely be placed "somewhere 2011", digital Q4 2010/Q1 2011. :hmmm:

In my opinion they are doing it right by releasing it "When it's done." Sounds familiar, where have I heard this before? So far in the beta I have only run across a few small issues, other than that this is more complete than some other "complete" games I've played this year.

Right? That's what struck me too. Sometimes you have these comments floating around about how people feel like they paid for a beta. Always thought it was a bit exaggerated, but they're pretty much spot on. They could release it as it is now and fix it up with patches, and still have a more polished product than some games at the end of their cycle. :-?

This is the first public beta release, and there's really nothing to stop you from having a good time. Plenty of stuff to tweak, fix and optimize, but overall it's perfectly functional.

Tried the MP yet? Officially it's not supported yet, but it seems people aren't having much difficulty running simple missions anyway. :hmmm:

I was on last night with a few others playing a modified Shooting Gallery mission for MP. It was quite fun I admit. I know I was glad when some of the others kept crashing their planes into objects at the AB. Made me feel like less of a noob, as I only crashed once:O:.

Stumbled onto Microsoft Expression Encoder (http://www.microsoft.com/expression/try-it/). It lacks some stuff from Movie Maker, such as the transitions, but offers far more encoding options. You can control stuff like resolution and quality directly.

It'll only output to .wmv with VC-1 codec. Buying the pro version gives you access to h.264 codec and MPEG4 container.

The whole 30mm rounds will kill infantry without a direct hit is a nice plus too. I just wish there was more distinction between Combat Mix and HEI. I would expect HEI rounds to have a better effect on infantry targets, but other than that I love every change that has been made so far. Thanks for the update Nate and pass along my compliments to Wags and the others. This is really shaping up to be a beauty.

Next patch is available: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1032326#post1032326

The one thing that jumped out at me most:

* Dynamic weather generation is added

I must prevent you, guys, from overestimating the feature you can use in Beta 3.
The new features is only a few discreet steps forward.

Dynamic weather in its first step will allow to have several baric systems (cyclones and anticyclones) placed in random but statistically based places. This instantly gives true wind and pressure distribution including altitude and near-ground wind directions. Clouds density will vary regarding real meteorological laws (in general of course.) Unfortunately, we can not graphically represent the areas of overcast, so you can only see different density of common type 1 clouds http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/images/smilies/smile.gif.

Later we plan to create front line (lines) in correspondence with the pressure distribution and decorate it with becoming clouds and airflows like squall (do not ask for tornado please - we could but what will you do with it?)

The unhoped-for feature is that this new feature is very processor friendly so I think nobody will notice the difference in fps http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/images/smilies/smile.gif

P.S. Baric systems will move as they must move but it has sence only during long missions.
:yeah:

Really shaping up to be an amazing piece of work. It already was, but it keeps getting better. :)

* ah, just a note though:

It has been acknowledged that the Beta 3 patch has issues. It has further been stated that an updated Beta 3 base version and patch will be released as soon as reasonably possible. It has also been advised that those currently experiencing issues exercise a wee bit of patience and wait for the release of the updated installers. In the interim revert to Beta 2 or another stable install.

Nate--IRL--

Beta 4 is out. See here.... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=63964

Although there are a few issues I'm not happy about in beta 4, it is now available for download. Please note that it is still a beta and NOT a release candidate.

Beta 4: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=products&end_pos=135&lang=en

Two versions of the patch will be available:

- Beta 3 to Beta 4 Patch. If you have a Beta 3 already installed, you can apply this patch to it.

- Beta 4 full install. This is a full version of the beta and should NOT be installed over a previous version. (RECOMMENDED)

As in previous betas, download the setup and ALL bin files to a folder. Then run the setup file and follow instructions.

Some other notes:

1- Performance improvement for beta 4 was that all units now have Levels Of Detail (LOD). In later betas we'll optimize other areas, particularly effects and EDM models that are having a big, negative impact. However, some things will always hurt frame rate like TGP / Mav video (have to render the game a 2nd or 3rd time!) or viewing high poly objects (like A-10C, F-15, etc.) up close. No way around that.

2- We know that there are cluster bomb issues and they are still being worked on. We've had to redo much of this code to support new features like HOF and this has resulted in a buggy weapon... for now.

3- When you run the game for the first time, you will likely have a long (4-15 min) white screen while the shaders are compiling. The game has not crashed.

4- We hope to have a change log soon.

5- We hope to have a quick beta 5 available before the end of the year.

6- If you have a font problem in the GUI, disable AA in your graphics card properties.

7- Some of our testers have reported installer issues. If you encounter this, we apologize and ask that you wait for beta 5.

8- To confirm beta version, please check file dates in your A-10C dir. The GUI indication is not correct.

If you encounter a problem, please for the love of god first consult the FAQ at: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=58551

I dunno Downly, I have my doubts about how effective 30mm would be against medium-large ship. Either way, I would have to think that the naval damage model in DCS is pretty simple. Stuff that floats is strictly a side show for a sim that models the A-10.

The AI can see and track human players through all solid houses, buildings, woods, single trees and bushes. And the worst is, that trees gives no solid cover. AI in woods can easily shoot you through trees. You see nothing but the AI can see everything and shoot you through the trees and woods.

Fog, heavy rain, clouds and haze reduces the visibilities only for human players but not the Ground-AI. The Ground-AI can see, track and shoot through all of these with ease.

So after 2 years of development we have to deal with the same dump AI. Maybe that's "lovely" for you arclight, but not for me.

Exactly, not telling anyone anything new, ET.

After 2 years of development we have 2 high detail aircraft with a 3rd in development, a level of detail that is completely unheard of and probably won't be matched anytime soon.

Can't say I disagree on the AI though, especially the tree issue is annoying flying the Ka-50, getting shot at by units you couldn't possibly see. All the while your AI wingman is calling out targets like they have strobes attached to them.

At any rate, once you actually learn to fly and be more cautious, it isn't even an issue. The best defence is to not get shot at, so if you notice enemies shooting through trees and spotting you behind a building, you're already too close. ;)

Patch 1.1.0.6 is out....

A-10C 1.1.0.6 Patch Available

The DCS: A-10C Warthog Patch 1.1.0.6 is now available for download. Unlike some of our past product patches that had a large number changes and too often took a long time to create, for A-10C we will create patches with fewer changes but at more regular intervals. This also reduces the chances of new bugs being introduced.

This first patch includes what we could resolve over a two week period. We fully understand that there are still remaining bugs and the legitimate ones will be addressed in later patches. We simply could not resolve all of them in this first patch. Please have patience as the remaining bugs are resolved.

After applying the patch to an installed version of DCS: A-10C Warthog, please reboot your computer before running the game.

Download from: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/patches/dcs-wh_patch_1.1.0.6_en/

In fairness, until recently the game was officially in a beta state, i.e. a pre-ordered game with a beta available to those who pre-ordered the finished product and could choose to install it. I think this is the first monster patch for the released game as such. So I wouldn't quite pester the developer for dishonesty here - they weren't pretending it was not a beta.

People always complain about games having bugs, but then they complain about patches when they get released? I'm so happy ED is making the changes they are making all the time, it shows they care about their products so much more than certain other game developers that release games and practically forget about them. I'm proud to be a customer of ED's because they actually want their customers to get the best experience possible, not just to line their pockets.

This new trend of releasing games intentionally in beta and/or unfinished (=unfit for release, that is) state, is a habit I do to have tolerance for, nor will I ever call it any different than bad business practices. A private person doing some very small niche project for a handful of friends and fans, is one thing - professional business doing like this and expecting full payment for their bad management - that is something completely different. I do not let them off this hook just because they work on something that I possibly would like to have - the better alternative is to not buy it, and either pass forever, or pay for it not before they have nailed together and released a complete release.
:nope:
Just a paying customer's minimal and decent expectation.

after a few hours with DCS: A-10C Warthog, you will never confuse a game for a simulation again. You may just never be able to go back.

CD versions in summer this year. I will wait some months for more patches and falling prices.

Little update:

Hi all,

A few bits of news we'd like to update you with.

As some of you already saw on our facebook and twitter pages, we are currently testing patch 1.1.0.7. So far the results are positive. The patch will address game stability issues and a number of singleplayer and multiplayer bugs. The subsequent patch 1.1.0.8 is already in development as well.

Here are the links our facebook (http://www.facebook.com/eagle.dynamics) and twitter (http://twitter.com/eagledynamics) pages.

Given the requests for additional training material and the many great supplements created by the community, we've started a Training Supplements page on the official ED Wiki. We'll continue to expand on the page, but it's also open for community editing and we encourage you to take advantage of it. You can find the page here:
http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Main_Page (http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Main_Page)

A couple of items for the longer-term future. First, WIP screenshots of dynamic cockpit shadowing have been posted on the DCS website:
http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co...shots/#gallery (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/screenshots/#gallery)

Second, as you may have also heard on twitter, we are working on a dedicated server application. More details as they are prepared.

Finally, some of the team members and volunteers are currently working to prepare the Russian release of DCS: A-10C, which should happen soon. Additional localized versions are being prepared as well.

Germany's biggest game magazine "Gamestar" has reviewed DCS:A-10 and has summarized: "This is Hardcore" They not rate it, because for them the border between game and simulation is crossed and A-10 can not be viewed as a game.

If they need to release GB-patches in short intervals, then something went terribly wrong in the software developement - or the publisher's release ethics.

You think so? You should try IL2 COD, it doesn't just need a 1gig patch, it needs a whole new game engine. A-10 without doubt is one of the best flight sims I have ever bought. The detail is incredible (you can even raise/lower your seat!) The software used was bought by the National Air Guard as a training program and DCS (the developers) got permission to convert it for the public. If you learn this sim you could really fly an A-10.

Nope, uses SF. ;)

Q: Does DCS: A-10C use copy protection?

A: Yes, it uses the new user-friendly ProActive AAA Technology.
You will no longer have a fixed number of activations, but in an effort to prevent piracy the system does limit the number of activations per month. Your DCS A-10C serial number is initially set to 8 activations and when they all are spent, 1 activation is added automatically once per 31 days (effectively "refilling" your serial number).
ProActive AAA Technology does not install any drivers on your PC. It works as an integrated part of the DCS files but has no special privileges in your system.

Some small changes to start-up and general procedures there.

* CBU-97/105 was nerfed:

That is because it was a CBU-87 you deployed a opposed to a 97. Yeah - I know it said 97.....it has however the bomblets of a 87 (BLU-97/B).

Known issue - the CBU-97/105 are currently being developed to accord with RL specifications as opposed to previous reiterations which were basically just a more powerful version of the 87/103.

Problem is that the real thing has bomblets that actively look for and engage targets. In the sim they didn't do this, just a more powerfull CBU-87/103 that simply blankets an area.

Properly modeled CBU-97... that's going to be a favourite with many. :D

To be honest it is hard to say - I went from Lock On to DCS and still enjoy Lock On. Lock On provides for the part of me that likes pure Air 2 Air combat, where as DCS is currently all about Ground pounding.

Avionics wise it can't compare to DCS, and the the cockpits aren't click-able. But it is very fun to throw the Su-27 around the sky, and mastering BVR combat isn't easy at all.

If you remember the glory days of flight simulators, this game is nothing like that.

Unnecessary overcomplicated.

If you want to use a controller that doesn't cost £270 then forget it, mapping does not work with rudder and throttle and thats as far as I got, uninstalled, sending it back as faulty, complete shambles.

XBOX live is nothing more than 8 players connected to a host that is randomly chosen from one of the xbox users and 99 times out of 100 you will just keep dieing without knowing why because of the latency, and there is always high latency because microsoft favors american hosts, this is purposely designed so that the rest of the world becomes easy to beat playthings for american youth.

For the price this console is very fast because its dangerously overclocked with no decent airflow, this console will not last much longer than a year and is why microsoft was forced to extend the warranty to 3 years.

The games do not let you set up the controller configuration or graphical detail, you can not take screenshots or do anything creative like making movies.

There is no clan formation or choice of hosting clan match's.

This is no gaming machine...

Sorry for the long drought in updates. Current the team is mostly focused on the Black Shark update, the next A-10C patch, the Nevada terrain, and our next DCS aircraft. Speaking of the Nevada terrain, here are a few new images that highlight the dynamic terrain shadowing system of our new terrain engine being used for Nevada, Eagle Dynamics Terrain Engine (EDGE).

Hope you like them.

EDIT: Apache thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=48772

There was in fact quite a bit of development done for an AH-64A cockpit and it was thought that it may follow the DCS A-10A release, which was planned to follow Black Shark. However, plans had changed and since then the A-10A has been replaced by the upcoming A-10C and the module to follow that is not yet confirmed. Currently, we still hope to release an AH-64A DCS module, but have no updates to provide at this point.

Still wondering how they plan to tackle dual-seat cockpits. I guess either have the option to hop between seats or have the AI take a station.

Both thoughts are terrifying to be honest. Relying on AI should be obvious why, and hopping seats means twice the work and twice the number of buttons.

Might be nice in MP with 2 human pilots though.

Unless they do something obscure, the next one will be able to carry the AMRAAM (F-16, F-15, F/A-18 and Harrier). So some AA capability is, I think, a given at this point.

I'm glad they've focused on air-to-ground. Far more versatile missions. The F-15C for example can engage aircraft... that's it. With the Ka-50 you can go after any kind of vehicle, short-range air defences and AAA, other helicopters and even CAS fixed-wings who forget a Vikhr greatly outranges their self-defence AA missiles.

(to be honest AA combat bores me to tears)

I'm hoping for a multirole, F-16 or F/A-18. The HARM on the F-16 or Harpoon on the F/A-18 would make an interesting addition to the stuff we can launch right now, along with the AIM-120.

German DVD version has been released today, Friday. Also got confirmation that German Amazon has shipped my copy. Take-off on Saturday, I think.

Let'S see what it brings. The English manual I had already downloaded and read in full in the past weeks, and surely will need to read parts of it again.

As for the next DCS plane, if they go classic, I could imagine the F-4 Phantom, maybe the Skyhawk. The F4 would deserve to be simulated, it has not been done since the days of "Flight of the Intruder", and is there a post-WWII aircraft more classical than the Phantom II...? Also, I would expect that it is pretty much known technical stuff, and declassified information by now.

If they go modern, I think it will be the F-18. Anything stealthy would be too speculative for their standards, I assume.

That is a fun thing to fly! Very dynamic flight model, maybe even a little bit too nervous, but no flying-on-rails, brings back memories of flying the Flanker 2.5 and Fulcrum. Did a first go at it, took of, and landed, but now am left with finetuning the keyboard commands and HOTAS assignments, and the interface for that, in good old tradition of theirs, is no real fun. Also, while having understood all the stuff when reading the manual - plenty of it reminds of the later Falcon things - I still need to find a way to actually memorise it all. I feel that I am not mentally hyperagile 20 year old anymore. :DL

But the feeling of flying is very, very good. It'S a movement in a constantly flowing, dynamic medium - like it should be.

German DVD version is 1.1.0.9, btw. No patching needed.

How to switch oin the nav and pos lights, and the formation lights? I have electricity established, and use the lights panel on the back right side to successfully manipulate the cockpit lights and instrument lights, however switching on formation lights results in no lights at all, and the pos lights switch may be in flash or steady position, but the anti-collision lights switch is springloaded and always springs back to off.

I so far have never had any red, green or white lights, blinking or steady!? Is there any other switch I miss?

edit: there is a second Pinky swsitch mentioned on the throttle, but I cannot click any button on the throttle at all. Is this the direction to look at for a solution? the pinky on the stick only functions because I left the 4 major buttons unprogrammed in their default mode (I use CH Fighterstick and ProThrottle).

Sorry, was a bit of a hasty reply, but I guess you figured it.

Really if you can map all the controls listed under the HOTAS section in the setup thingy, you can fly the hog from wheels up to aproach without ever taking your hands off the controls. Even key MFCD manipulation (content, SOI) can be manipulated with the HOTAS functions. Only reason I ever release the stick is to arm the gun, adjust weapon profiles or tinker with the TGP image.

X-52 "only" has 3 hats, so I'm using 2 different modifiers. Bit tricky to remember 3 different functions for each hat, but after a while muscle memory takes over.

Yes, I figured that one out meanwhile. But getting to a point that you can use the HOTAS exclusively, is a pain, really. I focus on bringing controls onto the HOTAS that are not directly or only very difficult to click in the 3D cockpit. The HOTAS orfiles around for my combo all suffer from that the guys do not focus on ergonomics but try to mimic the control of the real stick and throttle as far as possible.

I assume for cockpit builders it is a dream to have each and every function linkable to a keyboard command like this. But I do not build cockpits.:88)

Preliminary Changlog for the upcoming 1.1.1.0 patch.

DCS: A-10C Warthog, 1.1.1.0 Patch Change Log

This list is still in progress and very much subject to change. Items may still be added or removed.

FEATURES
• Moving and changing cirrus clouds.
• Increased the destruction values of buildings. A big and concrete buildings will require more bombs for destruction. For example: a big 16-floor building now requires two Mk-84 rather one Mk-82, as it was earlier. The same holds true for the hardened Command Center and Ammo Depot.
• Added new, higher resolution textures for some buildings: TV tower and Control Tower by Mustang

AVIONICS
• Fixed: RWR symbology intensity knob is now functional.
• TGP North arrow follows TGP view when overflying the tracked target now.
• TGP Autolase symbology has been improved - a steady/flashing ‘A’ indicator near the laser code on the TGP (autolase conditions are not met if flashing). ‘TGP AUTOLASE FAIL’ and ‘LASER CODE MISMATCH’ WCNs also implemented.
• Fixed the GUN READY light logic - the light will be ON only when the gun is really ready to fire (i.e. no more ON while taxiing or taking off); Ground Safety Override Switch will set the light to ON.
• GND SAFE and LDG GEAR annunciations on HUD/DSMS will work correctly now with the Ground Safety Override Switch.
• Training mavericks are displayed now in SADL PPLI weapons status on the TAD.
• Force Feedback stick shaker function have been adjusted.
• Waypoints names set via the ME are now not auto-renamed upon complete CDU reinitialization via DTSUPLD.
• The TGP compass rose is not displayed now if TGP LOS is above the horizon line.

***8226; UGKO: Kutaisi - Kopitnari -> Kutaisi

Improved Helicopter AI (HAI):
***8226; When analyzing a tactical situation, the HAI will take in account all threats, not only the target that the HAI is engaging.
***8226; If it possible to engage targets from a safe distance, the HAI will not fly close to threats. If it appears that the HAI is not at a safe position. If too close to enemy air defenses, for example, the HAI will fly away from away the threat(s) and then start engaging targets from safe a distance.
***8226; If it appears impossible to engage targets from safe distance, the HAI will make only one short attack (one missile launch / rocket salvo or cannon burst per run. ) from maximum range of that weapon and then breakaway to make new attack if required. This reduces fire effectiveness, but it greatly increases HAI survival when engaging targets with cannon or rockets. Of course, the HAI will never hover in an unsafe location.
***8226; If high-priority targets are screened by low-priority targets that makes impossible to attack high-priority target from safe distance, the HAI will attack low-priority targets first to break the screen. In other words, if you have line of enemy APCs and tanks at 4 km and enemy AAA and SAMs at 12 km, the HAI will engage those APCs and tanks first. No more flying over the enemies heads.
***8226; Jinking anti-flak maneuvering has been added. When flying in the WEZ of AAA, tanks, and APCs, the HAI will fly at high speed and jink. Of course, HAI will not jink when aiming at a target.

Think the avionics bit stayed the same.

According to the update topic, they've updated the CDU in 1.1.1.0.

From what I read it downloads information when you land, and resets your waypoint back to the first in the list. Great for re-fueling and rearming.

I took the A-10c up in the air after a week hiatus of FSX. I loaded up the Sitting ducks mission and was expecting some easy target practice. Lets just say the results were not as intended.

First I hit space to to turn on the clickable cockpit which fired a burst of GAU rounds. I then overflew the targets, and got hit by an AA round. I try again to turn on the clickable cockpit, and hit CTRL+C instead of ALT+C, there goes the canopy. Luckily there was a nearby friendly airport , which I quickly landed at.

Damages: Left wing tip missing, left wheel shreeded, bullet holes in body and wing, loss of CDU, and loss of canopy due to pilot error.

Thought I had pictures, but apparently I was mistaken.

What's the default screenshot button? I thought it was Print Screen, but that didn't save any screens.

It's in Nate's original post. Like I said, didn't spot any more changes to the avionics section.

It's just some automated operations though, don't see how it helps in refeuling or rearming. :hmmm:

I don't mean it helps with re-arming/re-fueling, I mean it helps us lazy people not have to scroll back to the first waypoint. :O: And my apologies, didn't realize it was Nate who had said it in the first place.

Ah, That's what confused me, I have the steam version and there is a Screen Shots folder inside the DCS folder, when I saw that it was empty I figured I did something wrong.

I kind of drifted across the ground after landing, surprised the bird didn't roll or break to be honest.
