Anyone ever notice that red pencil on the nav map that says Support Units?
I've always wondered what that was for does anyone know?
i've tried to use it at allied ports and in allied TF's but no luck.

In the American campaign btw just to be more clear.

check this out:

if you click on one of the support icons, a sircle will show on the map. you are supposed to be able to move your boat within the sircle, click the icon and set a waypoint close to your current position and a resuply ship will come. But if you look at the above link, it doesnt seem to work.. at least for me :zzz:

ah yes... i never heard of them resupplying you but the germans can call upon other german ships or there allies to assist in an attack or patrol an area for them. But what does this do for the americans? :damn:

same boat different paddle .

quite possible true, but if that auxiliary cruser i saw is supposed to do anything but
hunt small barges i think they'll be in for a big surprise. it looked like a cargo ship and those small pop guns wouldnt do much against anything scarier than an armed trawler. :88)

I've been playing the game for a long time and have yet to use the red pencil for whatever it's supposed to do, LOL.

I'd be curious as to the exact procedure required to use it and what exactly it's supposed to do. I know it's got something to do with calling for support but damned if I know how!:O:

I thought it was for calling in resuply, but apparently i was wrong and my dear XXI will be lost at sea somewhere between madagascar and australia :damn:

2 years of service down the drain because of my misunderstanding :o

The red pencil is suppose to put out an alert to other Allied units to come and help you with the enemy you have signed. I have yet to receive any help hahaha!

The red pencil is associated with "Captain abilities" that were introduced in SH4: U boat missions.

Ubisoft, in their infinite wisdom, hardcoded that to work on the german side only.

Ducimus;
thanks for that critical piece of info. That explains why my Captain's Abilities in the message board in my fleet boat continues to be blank, LOL!!
I intended to post another question about my U.S. Captain's Abilities but now I see there's no point.

cheers,
Tomoose

"we lead", hooah!!:03:

The captain's abilities and various hokey crewmen's abilities are just arcade fluff tragically introduced into a simulation anyway. When one of my crew sprouts the ability to load torpedoes in 30 seconds he's the next thing to goes in the torpedo tube. I'll have none of that claptrap on the Kraken!:arrgh!:

IMO, *some*, of those abilities, with *alot* of adjustment, are quite useful in showing the effects of an experienced crew.

Most of them however, as they are.... yeah, its like world of subcraft. I half expect to see an elf or a dwarf, pop out of a hatch somewhere.

"world of subcraft".......I like it.:har:

How about;
Subhammer 40000, or
Lord of the Pings, or
The Two Sonars, or
The Seamanship of the Ping, or
Return of the Ping.
:D:D:D:D:D:D

:oops: Sorry, they're lame I know it, :oops::O:
