Well i used the better part of yestoday to play SH 5 and se where it had its short commings.

I enjoy this series and realy wantet to se past the game bugs and simply look at what it lack of emersion..

I uninstalled all mods and just fooled around with .1.2.0

The game is awsome for the GFX and the 3d boat interior is just what i have wantet since SH II. What i realy mis is neutral shipping, mines and subnets....somehow the game feels abit to much "point and shoot"

I miss my office, yes we have a nice subpen, but the office where my place to kinda take a break, get updatet and a nice place to start from.

Somethings are just to easy, scapaflow is a joyride, and if you sink a bb there is a chanse that 5 mins later another one spawns right where you just sank the first one, werry easy to bump the tonnage. I have sunk ark royal 3 times all ready, the brit ship yards are doing one hell of a job :)

well back to the game....

stock the game feels like something that just need some spice. It is cool walking around the sub, but even with damedge depth charges going on i can always find a crew member relaxing in a bunk. The halos are just plain stupid, the pirate officer should be "terminatet" and the crew interaction just feels shalow and it can be hard to figure out why you should do it.

I like my crew, but without my office and some "shore" crew manegement it just again feels like...well just unfinished..

at 100% the game is fun, but the AI lets the game down. The AI dont even try, they just sail around and if you hit a ship in a convoy, well they just sail around..

The sounds inside the sub is wierd and dont work good. The crew chatter is either not there or its werry low, the diesel engine sounds like a scooter with no muffler.......

In all i realy dislike SH 5 stock. I cant se anyone bying it and have more than 10 hours of fun with it...GFX is not a agme, and the way the game is setup out of the box it just feels, well empty. Its like they wantet to make a game for the "new kids on the block", but not even that do they do ok...

This is where i will talk abit about the modded version. I cant mention all the mods im filling the poor game up with, but lets say around 12-15 mods in total.

New sounds, removing the halos, better textures in the sub and some AI beefing lifts the game 40%. Now im afraid of escorts, and any error on my side can be fatal. I can act abit more with the crew, but its the entire structure of crew interaction that is wrong so mods helps, but dont fix.

I still mis my office, and that one i cant let go. I want to "buy" new crew members, even rename them like with SH3 commander, my ship, my crew, my rules.

Using virtual sourround sound, new sounds in the game and the other mods makes the game awsome, but it wount get me to uninstall SH3 and SH4.

SH 5 will need time, but the qustion is if modders will give it that time. They have now fixed 2 times, and its a hard burden to fix number 3 to. Each game with new code, new files and a new structure takes time, and with the "great" information comming from ubisoft its hard for them to do something big out of the game, why use time on fixing when you dont know if there comes a pach that kill all the hard work you just threw in.

Great respect to the modders for keeping fighting the "ubisoft" game monster..

I will enjoy SH 5, and hope it one day can evolve to a SHIII GWX 3d GFX heavy super sim....

One thing is for sure, i keep my mods stock game is just soooooo XXXXXXXXXXXXX and abit more XXXXXXXXXX with a XXXXX on top

The point I have been trying to make about my disappointment in SH5 is best summed up by what you said here

If you think for one minute that the majority of the people that bought SH5 come to subsim and download mods to fix a broken game.... its no wonder this is a "niche" market. Ubi tried to appeal to a wider market and FAILED miserably. They only they UBI showed was that they didnt give a poo poo about this game/franchise, and frankly if I bought SH5 as my first UBI game, I would be hesitant to buy ANY other UBI game from here on out due to the blatant bugs left in game and total lack of quality.

Ubi are on the bahama beaches and stepped (with bare feet though with all our money) on a sharp shell and need all the patches themselves!

The thing to keep in mind is SH5 is just a game, and the point of a game is to be fun. What everyone has to put up with in the stock game is more tolerable for some over others, but that's why there is mods and modders. I had fun with the over the counter game, but with the mods I've added it's become even more fun. Whether it's fair that modders are needed more to get #5 up to the expectations of the Silent Hunter series is it's own debate, but I say hats off to the modders that are making the game something memorable:salute:. I also love and play the Thief games, and Thief 3 was nowhere as good as numbers 1 & 2 but that didn't make it less fun. Eventually there will be a Super mod like GWX that will solve all SH5's issues, until then there's always making a drinking game out of it *spot a glitch, take a shot*

Please list which mods you're using and where you got them. The SubSim download section seems to be a bit of a mess in all honesty. I can't tell which mod is for 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2 or what's been updated and what hasn't.

Which mods are working with 1.2 right now that most people are using?

I would honestly like a supermod to be made available right now that integrates a lot of these smaller mods into 1 bigger mod. That would make it easier for us folks out of the loop to build on from and at least keep people like us from feeling overwhelmed looking for something to replace this abysmal stock version.

I'm experienced with JSGME and mods with prior Silent Hunter games but Silent Hunter 5 forums on here just seem to be all over the place with every other topic explaining why the game sucks or why it doesn't. It's like a forum filled with Turrets Syndrome, like "BLAH BLAH BLAH...I HATE THIS GAME...BLAH BLAH BLAH....CRACK KILLS.....BLAH BLAH BLAH... NO IT DOESN'T....BLAH BLAH BLAH.... OBAMA SUCKS....BLAH BLAH BLAH...SH5 VS SH3....BLAH BLAH BLAH....NEAL FOR PRESIDENT....BLAH BLAH BLAH.....SH3 VS SH5.....BLAH BLAH BLAH....HERE'S A GREAT MOD FOR SH5....BLAH BLAH BLAH... SARAH PALIN IS SEXY.... BLAH BLAH BLAH... NO SHE'S NOT....BLAH BLAH BLAH... PATCH 1.3 IS OUT.... BLAH BLAH BLAH....DAS BOOT IS MY CRACK....BLAH BLAH BLAH.... SUBSIM IS FULL OF ZOMBIES.... I would love to clean it up, but how can I tell which mod is for which. Would you like me to remove anything that isn't for 1.2? If you can't tell, neither can I.

BTW, I noticed you've got like almost :o 25,000 :o posts on here Sailor Steve... yeah, like how many keyboards have you gone through exactly and how much disability do you get for you carpal tunnel syndrome!? :rotfl2:

You said it was all messed up. I'll do the cleaning, but I need to know what parts are messed up before I just start rearranging and deleting stuff. :sunny:

Accurate German Flags
Advanced Shift Keys 2.1
McHub532's SH4 German Stopwatch v1.0.0

All are from the downloads section, used through JGSME and work with patch 1.2

I'm currently running just these mods, as i feel they addressed most of the games shortcomings from a functionality standpoint. (they also produce no file conflicts and work harmoniously together)
