View Full Version : Black May - endgame
Done with SH5 campaign on 87% realism and no mods, except UHS. The last campaign, Black May consist of 3 monthly tonnage sunk requirement, every month you have to sunk more and more ships. I had no luck on finishing the Black May missions because a stupid bug.. on may 24 I needed a refit just to be able to sink the last part of the tonnage requirement, but my radio man got bugged like you can see in this screenie:

There was no way to read the message or ask anything else fro the radio man, heading back to port and getting back in the battlefield was not an option so.. I had to give it up and just let it go. The SH5 campaigns are stupid, boring and even bugged. I'm pretty disappointed by the campaigns, was hoping in more action and thrill as we approach the finish, but there is no difference.. planes still don't attack, and escorts are still lazy and dumb.
Now I wanna start a new career on 100% realism and take it real slow. I will use only Reduced Mission Tonnage and UHS mod, this should make the game really hardcore and challenging.

If I use AI improvement mods, I found The Elite Campaign & Feared Hunters combo to be the best, but.. I wanted to finish the game without any AI improvement mod just to see what is all about. So I saw no improvement in the AI behavior even if the Black May briefing is about the allied forces using advanced technology and convoy escorts become fierce sub hunters. I was pretty convinced that the last campaign will be finally a good one, full with events, hardcore battles etc.
So I was expecting some heavy battles, sticky DD's, but was no difference compared to the first campaign in '39. The whole campaign is only about monthly tonnage, nothing more. The AI is aggressive, but soon as I dive under 80m, I become invisible even if I use max speed. More than that, I got used to not bother with diving, I just sail at scope depth parallel to a merchant and take my time to select targets and fire all my load. If any escort get to close, I just pass under the merchant and continue my carnage from his other side. I remember that in SH3 this was not possible because if you were spotted, the merchant ships crew start to shot with their guns at your scope, so you had to dive.
And the most disappointing thing was that ugly bug that you can see in the screen shot. Badly needing a resupply and all I'm getting from the radio man is a Bdu message that I can't read.. is very disturbing. I finished SH5 with a ugly bug and very disappointed. I'm even hopeless that this game will ever get fixed, now I try to start over with 100%realism, but that's impossible as the stadimeter is still bugged and the map tools too. And installing millions of mods that will screw with my UI just to get the very basic commands to work, is not an option for me.
I'm very angry and full with hate against Ubi, I will never again buy any Ubi product and I will advice all my friends not to do so. They are a bunch of amateurs who trick people to buy a bugged and unfinished product at the price of a good one. The rumor that this was the last SH developed by Ubi is actually good news. For me, Ubisoft is a signature or thief's, amateurs and worst PR &support in the world. F'em.

Sorry, I disagree... with the demise of the SH series "sub-simmers" may not see another new game for quite a while. That is not good news...
Ow yeah, that's good news, trust me. Now the market is open and maybe some professional company will take over the idea of building a serious sub sim. I would pay even 100 EUR for it, but I expect a really good and completely finished game, respect and support from the developer, a game where mods will enhance the game, not fix it :-?
Ubi is complete fail, no way they will ever be able to do this, at least not with SH series. F'em!

So far I only have 3 Crosses but the game is no longer giving me an update and deadline. Do I have to wait a certain amount of time before I receive the new deadline or am I bugged?

You have only 3 missions in this last campaign, each month you got a new tonnage requirement, nothing else. So if u finished early the mission, wait for the next month to get the new mission that will be in the exactly same spot where you get the first one.
I did a mistake with the last mission because I docked at April 28 and when I got out was already May 12. So until I got into the mission area, found a convoy and unloaded all my ammo, was already May 26. And that stupid radio man got bugged and not allowed me to request a resupply. So there I was.. in the middle of ocean with no ammo, no radio and no hope to finish this last mission. I was very frustrated, full of anger and disappointed. And still I am...

I disagree with both points of this argument (a new dev will/wont develop a newer better Subsim) ... hows that for being Non-comittal :haha:
Seriously.... I dont think anyone can predict if a new subsim will come out soon, later, or never for that matter.
I mean everyone thought Duke Nuke'em would be comming out soon..... for a decade! Then it never came out.
And IMHO.... if SH5 (and the DECLINING quality UBI has put out since SH3) was any indication of what we will get for SH6... No thanks. I would prefer to wait 10 years on a new subsim.
I mean really...SH6 would come out and UBI will supply us with the compiler because they didnt have "time" to complie the raw code I would guess.

Actually, judging by the Ubisoft E3-athon last night, the game would be branded by some X-Games dweeb's name, be controllable by flailing your arms around, pastel colors everywhere and only run on consoles and have nothing to do with the war.
