I snuck into Plymouth and sunk the Ark Royal (as I had read a previous poster had done) but it doesn't show my objective to sink a carries as complete. Do I have to sink the carrier inside the circle it shows on the map as the "Carrier Patrol Area?".

You don't get credit for getting the one in harbor, but you do for the ones that pass just south of there in the middle of the Channel.

The carrier I got was just inside the mouth of the english channel, if you drew a line between plymouth and falmouth ( docks ) and from the middle of that line is where I found the carrier that I got. ( after days of patroling the circled area where it says the carrier patols, but there was nothing but merchants and destroyers :damn: )

So just patrol around just inside of the mouth of the english channel and you should fine a carrier group there. ( be careful, there were 8 destroyer escorts with the one I bagged! even took down 3 destoryers too:up: )

The carrier task force appears on January 23 1940. It can be found in the carrier patrol circle in the very centre square and to the top left.

10 degrees west 49 degrees north direction WSW

I have sunk the Ark Royal carrier south of plymouth, however, I have not gotten credit for completing the mission. In my save file there is a second carrier, Hermes, which I have sunk as an alternate instead of the Ark Royal and sinking either does not result in completion. It is late January 1940. Here is a paste of what is contained in my campaignprogress file.

Is there anything else I can edit to get this stupid mission off my to do list? I did sink the carrier required, how can I continue while getting credit? Should I add a campaign progress achievement bit after the invasion of poland part which is after my ark royal sinking entry? Can anyone show me the text I need to add if that is the case?

You don´t need to complete the missions to proceed. Nevertheless, consider yourself lucky, the only thing diferent from merchants and destroyers I ever saw while playing was one AMC. :nope:

I also only saw 1 AMC after searching for over 2 months of game time until I went into Loch Ewe port and found 2 parked, sank those, and saved. Came back from eating and loaded the game back up, two more had spawned so I killed those and completed that part of the mission. Game is quite bugged.

I may advise you to install IRAI, after it wouldn´t be so comfy camping ports :O: , much to the contrary btw...

yes that pic is where i got the AMCs. As for the carrier, next time I load the game I will try Plymouth port and see if I can finally get credit for the mission completion. If it is the Ark Royal I need, that ship has sailed and sunk and I guess I wont bet getting those 2 crosses for my efforts.

If she isn't in the port, then be careful as on the way out of the port, you may well face her coming in, with escorts in tow!
Escorts number anywhere from a dozen to about 20.

Nabbed another carrier on the way up to Portsmouth and that counted for my mission, it was another type of carrier (some kind of fleet carrier, don't remember the exact name, was around 21k tons). Also nabbed yet another one on the way back out. Seems like the Brits have an unlimited number of carriers and destroyers to escort them with.
