Its early feb 1942 and I've been on patrol now for almost a month, completing both of my objectives and now in my free roam before returning to base. The problem is, I've not managed to fire a single torpedo since leaving base. There just hasn't been anything to shoot at.... well I did find a small TF of seaplane tenders, but after getting lined up for a shot they literally disappeared out from under my nose (~5nm... I was tracking them with hydrophone coming out of a harbor and waiting for my shot). Now I've been zig-zaging across all of the major shipping routes in the area with no luck, so I'm thinking about peeling off and going somewhere else, but I don't know where. I have "orders" to stay in the Celebes Sea, so is there anywhere in or around there that would be good hunting ground for me at this point, keeping in mind that I've spent the last 72 hours drawing lines in the entrance to the Makassar Strait? Or is this area pretty much dead right now and I should run over to the South China Sea and / or Java Sea to try and catch some of the action going on there?

Thanks

PS: I'm running TMO 1.9 and RSRDC

As stated, the Java invasion force will be off Semarang, about 55 NMs, lil NNW, Feb 27-29. All kinds of action there.

If you go west and look at Merak, the harbor to the right of the label contains a large invasion force on March 2. In the Sundra Strait at Merak another large invasion force will come through the Strait heading to Christmas Island, just sit outside the strait around March 7.

The JPS make a carrier run into the Indian ocean about that time, if you get on a strait line from Christmas Island to Darwin after March 9, you might get lucky...:D

After that I head to the Solmons for April and May...Coral Sea, Port Moresby invasion force, ect...

Oh my, you must be playing stock...Let me count the number of invasion forces that come through there...., course they're better places to ambush them

Tarakan Island was one of the major oil producers before the war. Production was 80,000 barrels a month. It was an early objective of the Japanese and they landed there in Jan. 1941. I would hang out in the strait near the island and hunt tankers.
