So, tomorrow with it being June 6, I was looking forward to watching some good programs on the D-Day invasion. So I looked at the guide on the TV for tomorrows programs for the History Channel.

The History Channel decides that it is going to play an Ice Road Trucker marathon tomorrow, ALL day. I find this disgusting. Not one show in the whole 24 hours of June 6, will they not show any thing, HISTORY, about the invasion of fortress Europe. :nope:

The reason i am ranting is, on Memorial Day last week, History channel decided it was a good idea to have a Pawn Stars marathon.

Whatever, I mean, June 6th does not mean crap to anyone anymore. Its not like it was one of the most important events in the history of man. Sad really. It really is.

The Military Channel is dedicating most of its line up tomorrow on the invasion. But that is a given.

Well history channel is about as accurate as Syfy these days anyways, and half the crap on it isn't even history anyways, just pandering to get ratings.

I don't even watch the channel at all anymore.

I am assuming that you are not aware that the History Channel and the Military History Channel are both owned by the same company?

So it is not unusual for the company to have their military orientated channel carry the military stuff and their non-military orientated channel cover other programming. :yep:

There may be many things to get spun up over, but this is not one of them. A Sixty-Sixth anniversary is hardly cause to justify coverage on both channels. :nope:.

Meh, does this really surprise you? I gave up on the History Channel a long time ago. Some of their shows are interesting, but have almost nothing to do with actual history.

The Military Channel I mentioned is owned by the Discovery Channel.

Is that the same one as,The Military History Channel?

BTW, whats up with my avatar? Talk about, Dont ask Dont tell. :woot:

History Channel has found that they can get more and younger viewers by loading up on cheap-to-produce reality shows. I'm not sure why they haven't just gone ahead and changed their name already. They're anything but history anymore.

They have really gone downhill the past few years, I hardly ever watch anymore.

We will play our VHS copy of "The Longest Day" though.

The scene where Pluskat looks at the camera and announces the invasion is priceless.

I too will be popping in my copy of The Longest Day. But mine is DVD.

I used to be a regular poster on a naval history forum. Even several years ago we would watch a show on the History Channel that actually was about history, and make jokes about all the things they got wrong.

BTW, whats up with my avatar? Talk about, Dont ask Dont tell. :woot:
That's the avatar that Dowly long ago named the 'Gay Biker Dude'. Don't worry, in about eight more posts he'll be gone. Then you can really cry about "don't ask, don't tell." :rotfl2:

I wrote them a few years ago about this bullsh** of theirs with the non-historical stuff. Never did receive a reply. So I'm just going to spend tomorrow watching all the Band of Brothers episodes, followed by Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day, Where Eagles Dare, maybe some Big Red One.

Ya History channel here sucks too (so does discovery). At least though they were forced by the regulating body in Canada to stop showing bloody CSI reruns.

Frankly I am sick of the sensationalist and 'reality' shows from both of them. They sure those world ending shows of theirs (super volcanoes, killer comets, etc etc etc etc etc).

This is the schedule for tonight in Canada.

6:00 PM ET/PT
Ice Pilots NWT
Pre-Christmas Rush(CC)

7:00 PM ET/PT
Ice Road Truckers
Ocean Run(CC)

8:00 PM ET/PT
Bloody Normandy
(CC)

9:00 PM ET/PT
Saving Private Ryan
(CC)

1:00 AM ET/PT
Greatest Tank Battles
The Battle of Normandy(CC)

"D: Day: The Ultimate Conflict"

on at the moment.

The scene where Pluskat looks at the camera and announces the invasion is priceless.

The Military Channel is probably where it would land up:

Two episodes of The World At War (first two IIRC)
Then 'D-Day: The Lost Evidence"
Then 'Hell's Battlefield' D-Day Omaha Beach
Then 'Britain at War - D-Day'
Then 'Slaughter at Omaha Beach'

So, not a bad selection, as they go. :yep:

Don't see the problem. Sure, D-Day was important and all, but are you really saying every single June 6th should be dedicated to it? Should we do this with the other large-scale events throughout history, too? Because then pretty much every single day of the 365(1/4) days of the year would have to be a "_________ Day" devoted to some event or another.

Whatever, I mean, June 6th does not mean crap to anyone anymore. Its not like it was one of the most important events in the history of man. How, exactly, is it "one of the most important events in the history of man"? The landings were the inevitable results of the superior economic and military power of the Allies. It brought the war into its final stages, but it's not as if it's a turning point (like Stalingrad or Midway).

I can think of many, many, many more important events than a single battle in a single war against one of Earth's countless tyrants.

The history channel cannot be bothered with history there too busy 'entertaining'.

They really need to change the channels name.

List of show ideas the History Channel could show on June 6 NOT related to D Day... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_6)

Many large battles on that list... :hmmm:

Years ago I was a History Channel junky. Now there's hardly anything to it but crappy reality shows and Doomsday documentaries.
