1.2 ..
I've had a few , last night I hit a merchant starboard side just behind the bow, within 10mins the bow was under and the water up to about the 1st mast.
It still ploughed on , this went on for at least half an hour before it came to a stop and then after 10-15 mins went under.
Surely with the bow under and water up to the 1st mast , the driving forward would have drove it under ?

HMS Eskimo (http://www.abitabout.com/First+Battle+of+Narvik) lost her bow to a torpedo or mine and survived:

HMS Azalea damaged her bow to a mine as well:

There was another more dramatic picture I saw the other day, but can't find it. Ships can be tough though. heh
If you're playing stock (ie, without the BRF mod) it's quite possible for a nearly dead ship to sail on as if nothing happened since it still has HP left, even though common sense says it should have sunk long ago.
Ha! Seems it happens even with BRF! First, here's a ship that was trying really really hard to get away. You can't see it in this screenshot but it's propellers were still spinning! Just wasn't going anywhere since they were out of the water:

That was the third of four damaged, but not sunk outright ships from a convoy I ran into. I finally caught up with the fourth one, 308km from where I first hit her!!
